Evelina shivered and thought, 'how...how did I get here!?'
Just a moment ago she was sleeping in her room. How did she get all the way here.
Not to mention..the water was extremely cold and her nightgown was all wet now!
As she tried to get up, Evelina accident slipped and fell back in.
"Ah!"
Her back started to hurt. She gritted her teeth.
"Who the heck did this!?" She mumbled to herself.
"Who's there?" A female servants voice could be heard. It seemed she heard Evelina's scream and came out.
The female servant was holding a lamp. As she approached the source of the sound, she finally was able to clearly see who it is.
"L-lady Evelina!?" She was shocked. What was Evelina doing here? The laundry area was quite far from her bedroom.
In fact..it was on the other side of the mansion!
"How did you end up here, eldest miss?" The female servant asked as she helped Evelina get up.
"How would I know....!?" Evelina was shivering. It was extremely cold.
"I'll help send lady back to your room alright?"
"Yes...thank you..."
**************
Angelina sighed in relief..
She told Marie to let Eric stay in a guest bedroom.
Now she was prepared to go to sleep. As she laid on her bed, Angelina cast a glance towards the window and admired the moon.
She knew Evelina would probably make a big deal tommorow. After all....She did leave her body outside...
But right now all she wanted to do was rest.
As she tossed and turned in bed, Angelina suddenly remembered an strange memory.
She was running in the halls and seemed to be in a panic. Her black hair looked dishevelled.
And she could hear the servants calling out to her.
"Lady Lilith!"
"M'lady slow down!"
"Miss please stop running!"
But it seemed she couldn't hear them. She continued running. But then she accidentally slipped and fell down the stairs.
When her face met the floor, she immediately blacked out.
And that was it. She couldn't remember more.
Angelina was confused. She never remembered falling down the stairs when she was Lilith....
And why was she running...?
Angelina sighed and started to drift off to sleep.

The next morning, Angelina woke up and got dressed as usual. Then she went downstairs for a morning walk in the garden with Marie.
"How's the doing?" Angelina asked Marie while admiring the flowers.
"Him?..oh him! I think that slave is still sleeping. Would like me to wake him up, miss?"
"No, you don't need to do that. Let him sleep a bit more. He's been through a lot."
"Miss is so kind" then something came to mind. "Oh right miss, I've heard lady Evelina caught a cold"
Angelina's smile stiffened. But then grew wider and she let out a giggle.
"The duke was extremely upset! He was outraged even!"
"Where is the duke now?"
"Well I heard his grace the duke, her grace the duchess, and the young master is accompanying the eldest miss in her bedroom."
"Then we shall go there as well."
************
When they arrived, Angelina saw the duke with an ashen expression. The duchess looked worried and Alex wore a stern face.
Evelina seemed to be asleep.
"Good morning, father, mother, brother. How's elder sister?" Angelina greeted them.
Marie left the room to leave the family alone after she also greeted them.
"Good morning to you too, Lina. Eve is fine. The doctor already came over and examined her. It's just a simple cold."
"That's good."
The duke grunted.
"Who could've left her in such a place..." The duke seemed quite distressed.
'hah!.... it's just a cold..yet your treating it as if it's the end of the world...!' Angelina couldn't help but make fun of the duke.
"Angelina, do you know who could be responsible for this?" Alex finally spoke.
'oh? Your suspecting me?...well it is me... But...I'm never letting you know that.'
"How could I know anything brother? I was in my room the whole night." Angelina acted wronged.
"......" Alex furrowed his brows. Who else could it be?
"Why must so many unfortunate things happen, days before Lina's debut" The duchess sighed.
"Perhaps it's a sigh she will bring is misfortune." Alex rolled his eyes.
"Lex! Don't say that about your sister!"
'my.....you seem to be expesially accurate with your predictions today, brother '

"Quiet!" The duke shouted, causing everyone to immediately close their mouths.
"Hm.." Evelina opened her eyes slowly.
**************
Evelina's POV
As I opened my eyes, I was greeted with the scene of the concerned expressions of my whole family.....well exept her...
Seeing her I couldn't help but frown.
I hate that expression of hers. Looking delicate and elegant...while on the inside...I know she's gloating at my humiliation.
I really hate that face of hers...
"Did we wake you up, Eve?" My father asked me with a gentle tone.
"No, it's alright" I smiled. Even though I felt slightly annoyed on the inside.
"How do you feel, Eve?"
"I feel a little tired and my nose is a little stuffy...but I think I'll be fine after some rest." I reassured my mother.
"Knock, knock, knock!" There was someone knocking on the door.
"Come in"
"Forgive this servant for intruding, my lord. But there something urgent for the young master to deal with." My brother's assistant bowed.
Then I heard my brother sigh.
"I'll have to take my leave now." Then he turned to me. "Rest more, Eve"
"Alright, brother." I replied.
After my brother left...there was another knock on the door. This time a female servant's voice was heard.
"Your grace... there's a guest looking for lady Evelina."
My father furrowed his brows and said in annoyed voice.
"It's... it's lady Sonia from the White family."
My father rubbed his temples and said, "tell her Eve is currently not able to see her."
"But...." The maid hesitated.
"How about I go see her, father" she suddenly spoke.
"Huh?"
"After all lady Sonia came all this way, it would be offensive to her if we just send her away now."
Her explanation was reasonable. But.... doesn't she dislike Sonia? Why is she offering to do this....?
"Hm. Good. Go do that"
"I'll be taking my leave father, mother, sister..." When she said 'sister'...her eyes suddenly showed a hint of disgust.
I couldn't help but grit my teeth and clench the bedsheet.
What is she planning....
***************
"Lady... Angelina?" Sonia widened her eyes in shock, before pursing her lips in displeasure.
"What are you doing here!?"
"This is my home. Why can't I be here?"
"You....."
"Elder sister is a little ill right now...due to that... she is unable to see you..." Angelina took a seat and picked up her teacup.
Lady Sonia's frown grew worse.
"Why are you looking at me like that..?" Angelina said calmly as she sipped her tea.
"Then...why are you here to accompany me instead..!?"
"Don't think I came here to 'accompany' you. I have my own reasons."
Truthfully...Angelina was just bored and wanted to leave Evelina's room. Plus she had fun making fun of her past rivals.
"..."
"Did you actually believe I came here to accompany you? Don't be so foolish...you don't deserve the honor.... Your merely a baron's daughter..."
"And you even have the boldness to come to duke Skyler's mansion without a proper notice." Angelina sipped her tea with grace.
"You!"
"Don't glare at me like that. It's disrespectful of you to glare at someone who is much higher in status than you."
"Shut up...!"
"My...even the way you speak is impolite and ungraceful... Truly fitting for a daughter of a low ranking baron..."
"You...."
Angelina knew lady Sonia's sensitive topics. Lady Sonia always despised her title of 'baron White's daughter'.
"I bet you came here to gain more favor from my elder sister....which I don't blame you for... After all that's all a person of your status can do..."
"....."
"All you can do is try to suck up to ones above you...my...what an unfortunate life you have..."
"Shut up!" Lady Sonia got up with her teacup in hand, aiming pour hot tea all over Angelina.
But Angelina already expected this. She purposely irritated and provoked lady Sonia for this.
Angelina grabbed lady Sonia's wrist right before lady Sonia was able to spill tea all over her, and aimed lady Sonia's wrist towards lady Sonia's gown.
And the tea spilled all over Sonia's dress.
Angelina sneered.
She didn't forget what lady Sonia did in her previous life.
When Lilith tried to purposely spill tea on Evelina's gown, Sonia did the same thing she did and made her spill the tea on Lilith's own gown.
Now...she would pay back all those small grudges she had back.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above.
