《Chubs | KSJ》Bald and Nasty

I quickly pack my stuff up from class, ignoring the chattering groups around me. All day, all I could think about was Jin and the fact that he's actually making me food. Like, I know he doesn't mean anything by it but still! He's cute, LET ME DREAM! I dash out of the class, barely waving to Tae before I disappear into the hallway and out the building.
The group chat distracted me for a while but now I can't stop the butterflies from taking over my stomach.
When will he come?
What will he make for me?
What if he sucks at cooking and I have to lie that I like it?
What if he forgets and never comes?
Does he remember?
He probably doesn't, I'm probably getting nervous for nothing.
I slow down, walking at a normal pace to my car. I roll my eyes at myself for getting so worked up. I lift my arms from my sides letting the wind blow under my arms for a nice pit breeze.
Dang, when did I get so sweaty?
I throw my stuff into my car and get in, forcing myself to drive slowly.
***
My fingers tap on the steering wheel impatiently and I sigh at the fourth red light in a row.
"Come on, Come on!!"
As soon as the light turns green I slam on the gas, fast and furious the rest of the way to work.
Just in case Jin got there early, waiting for me. I just don't want to hold him up, that's all. I reason my actions.
The brakes squeak as I park carelessly and crooked in the spot behind 7/11. Scrambling, I turn off the car and grab my stuff. I stumble out of the car and slam the door behind me, accidentally closing it on my scarf that was draping out my arms.
"Ah!!seriously!?" Today is not my day.
With all my strength I try to yank it out of the door but it stays put. I huff and unlock the door to open it and retrieve the scarf. Hurriedly, I slam the door closed once again and take a deep breath. Turning, I speed walk, frantically fixing my hair along the way.
I rush into the store and quickly scan the space, standing on my tippy toes trying to look over the aisles.
"what are you looking for Noona?" Hoseok asks from the counter.
I tear my eyes from the store and smile at him "nothing, just looking." I quickly take one last glance and walk behind the counter, switching places with Hobi. He raises his eyebrow, suspicious, but doesn't ask anything further. "Did you work alone today?" I change the subject.
Hoseok sighs, putting on his coat. "Yea, Namjoon doesn't work today and the other kid said she had "family priorities" so she didn't come in."
"isn't she obsessed with Day6?" I ask remembering the couple times I worked with her, she always took over the music and played nothing but Day6 songs all day long.
Hoseok nodds, clocking out his time card.
"Didn't they have a concert today?"
Hoseok gasps, putting a hand over his mouth "coincidence?"
"I think not." I sing, snapping my fingers.
He laughs " It's okay, I don't mind. Everyone should have fun while they can."
"That's true I guess. But then what about you?" I lean on the counter, taking a glance out the door.
"eh," he shrugs"I'm okay as long as everyone else is happy."
My heart melts, I turn back to him.

"Aigoo" I walk over and pinch his cheeks "You're too sweet for your own good."
"yes yes, I'm very cute, I get it." Hoseok mumbles from his squished face. He removes my hands from him.
"You go out there and have some fun too okay Hobi?!" I call after him as he walks to the door.
He laughs, yelling"Okay Momo, I will!"
Jungkook hops in through the door, almost running into Hobi who yelps in surprise.
A car pulls into the parking lot and I watch it, waiting for it to park.
"Oh hi hyung!" Jungkook happily greets him.
The car doesn't stop, instead just turning around and getting back on the road.
"Hey Kooki, I'll see you later okay? I gotta go, text me sometime!" Hobi waves as he leaves the store.
I sigh softly, slightly disappointed that the car didn't stop.
Jungkook walks behind the counter smiling as I continue to watch out the door, picking at my sleeves.
"Hey Momo?" He says cheerifully
"hmm?" I strain my neck a little, trying to look down the road a bit. I see a car coming. Holding my breath, I will it to turn.
"guess what I got on my English test?! You're not going to believe it!" He giddily rummages through his backpack.
The car pulls into the gas station and my heart starts pounding faster.
Jungkook pulls out his test "look Momo!" he says from behind me.
I'm too focused on the car that I can't even register anything he said.
"thats great kooki, would you mind clocking me in? I forgot."I wave him off without looking.
The car parks.
"but would you just-" Jungkook sighs, seeing how distracted I am" Yea I can do that." He walks away.
I don't reply. The car door opens and I gasp in anticipation.
A woman gets out.
I groan, sitting back into my chair.
What am I doing? I need to calm down.I'm acting like some love stick high schooler. Act your age Momo! You will NOT watch out the window like a dog, waiting for Jin to come with the freaking food. He'll come when he comes.
I smack my own wrist.
Jungkook comes back over and stuffs the paper back into his bag. He sits down in his chair next to me. Glancing at me worried, he presses his lips into one another "are you okay Momo? you seem a bit,... out of it."
I softly shake my head, trying to get my stupid thoughts under control. "yea I'm fine Jungkook."
Jungkook slowly nods his head, looking back out to the store.
The next couple hours are painfully quiet and slow. But I didn't notice. Twenty minutes in and my eyes had already betrayed me. And I've been watching out the window ever since.
I can't help it, I just wanna know exactly when he gets here so I'm not singing about my tummy like a buffoon again. I'm one embarrassing moment away from being a slapstick comedy. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I will not allow it.
"Momo, did you hear me?" JK says, irritated. He claps his hands in front of my face.
Startled, I turn and glare at him.
"What the butts dude, can't you see I'm busy?" I joke
"Seriously? Busy doing what?" JK says, NOT joking.
I look away, back out the window, my thoughts already drifting away from our conversation. "IDK, like breathing and stuff..."
JK sighs.
Another car pulls into the gas station and I try my best not to get my hopes up on it.

"Isn't there something you, I don't know, wanna ask me about?" Jungkook quietly says.
The car parks in the front, but I can't see their face through the tinted windows.
"something really important to me....." He edges me on, trying to get me to talk "that happened todaaayy,...."
Out steps Jin from the car.
I gasp, standing up. Jungkook's eyes go wide, surprised by my movement.
"wha-"
"Sh-sh-shhhh" I swat my hand at him as Jin walks in through the door.
"Hello Jin." I bow, smiling
"hey" Jungkook mutters, bowing as well
"Hi guys" Jin smiles back at us. "Told you I would" he holds up a bag"Are you ready Momo?"
"Heck yea!I was born ready! What did you make?!" I bounce out from behind the counter and follow Jin to the sitting area, ignoring how incredibly awkward what I said was. I eye the white bag filled with Tupperware, trying to see what it contains.
"Well food, obviously."
I playfully glare. But since he can't see me, I lightly hit his back.
"I'll be the judge of that." I peek over his shoulder as he puts the food on the table, still trying to hide them with his body. "you didn't poison them right?"
"Yah! I wouldn't waste such wonderful food as this just to kill you. If I wanted to kill you, I'd give you Namjoon's cooking." He shoos me"now stand back so I can set this up, ya freaking vulture."
I laugh at him, taking a step back. "You've had Namjoon's food?"
"A couple times, we hang out." I catch a wiff of the food as he opens all the lids. I scrunch my nose. It smells like a odd combination of cinnamon, beef, and red pepper.
"so you guys are close? It's just weird because you don't really hang out with him while he works." I don't ever remember seeing Jin hang around, but then again I don't regularly work with Namjoon.
"I do a few times a month but I don't really like to bother people while they work."
I scoff "What's this then?"
He turns to look at me with a oh please face "Is this" He motions towards his face" bothering you? I can take the food back if you want" he begins putting the lids back on.
"No! no no no,..... it's all good. Keep going."
Jin tsks at me and opens them back up. "Okay here it is!" He moves aside and shows his food.
My mouth drops.
He has three beautiful dishes laid out on the table, even though they were fairly basic dishes, they looked . He made kimchi jjiggae, steaks, and hotteok, along with a few common side dishes.
"I know they aren't impressive dishes, but they taste really good in the winter." He says, scratching the back of his head.
"No! These look amazing Jin!" I move closer to them." They look like something straight out of a restaurant. Seriously." I smile up at him, which he returns, eyes squinting.
"Well, I should hope so, I have been working the past four years on it!" He talks with his whole body, his mood elated at my compliments. He pulls out a chair, motioning me to sit. I do, trying not to drool all over the food. Jin hands me utensils and sits down next to me. He looks at me expectantly. I look back him. "are you gonna try it or....."
"Oh yes, sorry." I grab my spoon." Thank you for the food!"
He watches me nervously as I look over the steaming food. I try every dish, each getting better than the last.
"How is this even humanly possible Jin!?" I exclaim while taking another bite of the steak.
He laughs, "What?" He takes a bite of it in curiosity.
"It's so good! Human made things cannot physically be this good, it's literally perfect!"
Relieved, he smiles at me with warm eyes and cheeks flushed, full of food. "thank you!"
I take a drink of my water and grab another hotteok, slowly eating it. 75% because It was the last one and 25% because I burnt my tongue on the previous one.
Jin grabs the last steak the size of his fist and shoves the entire thing in his mouth. His face stretches beyond its limit as he tries to chew it.
I stop eating and stare at him for a moment.
He meeting my gaze and raises his brows as if to ask "what"
"That was slightly disturbing." I take another bite.
At my reaction, he just smiles, displaying all the chewed up food contained in his mouth.
"Oh! EWWW! JIN!!" I cover my innocent eyes.
Jin laughs, hitting his leg, not bothering to cover his mouth at this point. I push his chair away from me with my foot but end up just moving my own chair.
He calms down and continues to chew his food like a happy little lama.
I shake my head at him,"You're nasty" I say attempting to look serious but his cuteness is too much and brings out my smile once more.
I can't handle this guy. Especially right now, as he's munching away like a little fluff ball. I'm really glad I got to eat with him today, he's a lot of fun to be around. And I'm definitely a lot less nervous than I thought I'd be.
Jin swallows his food, eyes locked on something behind me. "not as nasty as that bald guy." Jin stands, walking slightly in front of me.
"Huh?" I turn in my chair to see my boss headed to us, furious.
Oh no. Not again. I groan, standing up. I'm gonna get int trouble for this.
"Momo!" My Boss, Hinyeong yells.
"Sir, I don't know who you are, but if you would like to yell at the lady, you can talk to me first." Jin calmly says, taking a step towards my boss to stop him from coming closer.
I grab his arm "It's okay Jin, it's my boss."
Jin looks back at me making an o with his lips and quickly steps aside, allowing me to talk face to face with my hot-headed boss, who thankfully is too distracted with his anger towards me that he ignores Jin. I bow my head, hands clasped in front of me, prepared to take his scolding.
"Momo! I don't care if you and your new little boyfriend over here are in love, you are NOT permitted to use break time as date time! Breaks are to be taken in the BREAK ROOM. That is why we have one! I swear child! First It was always being late and now THIS?! Do you WANT to be fired Momo?" Hinyeong yells at me, spit flying every couple of words.
"no sir." I mutter.
"Then get your act together! I swear-" He yells, storming back to the front of the store " AND CLEAN THIS DUMP UP!"
"yes sir" I wait until he is in the back to finally move. Quickly, I glance back at Jin and mouth "sorry" as I walk over to the counter to start cleaning.
Jungkook already has a broom in hand, sweeping, eyes glued to the floor.
I kick in his general direction "Yah!" I whisper yell. "why didn't you warn me!"
He shrugs, not looking up and moving to a different part of the store. I roll my eyes, frustrated. Harshly grabbing my own broom, I start sweeping as well.
After a minute or two Jin taps my shoulder, bag in hand with the leftovers all cleaned up.
"I'm sorry I got you in trouble Momo." He says quietly, feeling guilty. "And I'm sorry I told you your bald boss was nasty."he smiles "I should have said it to his face"
"It's okay. I knew I wasn't supposed to, it's not your fault."I reassure him, patting his arm.
"Next time, maybe we should,... eat together,.. somewhere else?" He asks hesitantly "-so you don't get in trouble again."
I smile with an enthusiastic nod " I'd be okay with that!"
He looks up at me, grinning back. "Really?" He asks, eyes sparkling like a little kid's.
I nod again.
For a moment he just stares, caught up in the relieve and surprise. Then he suddenly remembers his existence. "Oh!" He quickly grabs his phone. "Here" He gently puts it in my hands. "put your number in so I can text you."
"Okie dokes." I awkwardly say, putting my number in and handing it back to him.
"So, I'll see you later Momo." he grins with a small wave, walking backward out of the store.
I giggle waving back at him.
He gets in his car and drives off. As soon as I see his car leave, I put a hand to my heart and drop to the floor.
Oh my God, it feels like I'm going to have a heart attack! Is this normal?! I feel my cheeks. They're burning up.Am I going to die?
I lay completely on the floor, covering my face as I continuously giggle to myself.
"GET OFF THE FLOOR MOMO!" Hinyeong yells.
Oh frick, I forgot.
My smile quickly falls and I scurry to get up again, going back to sweeping. I stare at the floor, trying to look productive. My boss sticks around until we've almost finished cleaning. Then he flings on his coat and leaves, telling us to lock up when we're done.
I bite my lip, my smile slowly creeping back up as thoughts of Jin flood my mind.
Crazy how I went from thinking he might be a creepy old man to being nervous just to see him and giggling like a madwoman.
Am I insane?
.....probably...

8 191The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.

A coming-of-rage urban fantasy novella centering on the mental health journey of Arthur Silva. It follows his struggles with self-worth, and his interpersonal relationships between his family, friends, coworkers and partners. This novella is in it's first draft so if it's a bit rough around the edges that's why. I just want to get some feedback on it as well as what's working. Each chapter can be very stylistically different from each other as a means of separating the different months that each chapter takes place to better put the reader into the headspace of Arthur.
