《Chubs | KSJ》Conversations with a Side of Fried Brain

BEEEP! BEEEP!
A car honks at me before loosing patience, speeding up and going around me. Not forgetting to send me a nice, loving, middle finger as they pass.
"well SOR-RY Mr. Grumpy Grumps for going the speed limit" I sassily mutter from the safety of my car. I roll my eyes at the car now bolting down the street then glance down at my speedometer. I blink at the sheer irony. 40mph . . . . 15 under the speed limit.
I nervously laugh, speeding up. oops....my bad...
Today is finally Saturday and I am attempting to get to my job on time. One thing I didn't think about when taking the early shift from Hoseok was just how FREAKING EARLY it was. I was so dead beat after two weeks of helping Jungkook study and trying to run on minimal sleep. So when I woke up this morning at 5 o'clock, I was seriously reconsidering if it was even worth it.Sadly, the lack of food in the fridge and my little tummy crying out for a cheeseburger forced me to get up and actually be productive.
And by that I mean I went back to bed for another 40 minutes, freaked out thinking I'd be late, rushed to get ready and somehow ended up being ready before I needed to.
I'd call that pretty dang well productive.
I was even able to take out the trash, talk to my neighbor AND grab coffees for me and Namjoon. I know, I'm impressed too, I'm like doooing things today. I'd give myself a gold star but,... those cost money.
I pull into work and walk in to find Namjoon already there, restocking the refrigerated items.
"Hey Joon! I've got your coffee! Imma put it on the counter."I call to him, waving the coffee when he looks over at me.
"Okay thank you Noona!"
I hum in response. Sitting down, I take long drink of my Americano, trying to wash away my sleepiness. I groan. It's not working. I knew those extra 40 minutes were just gonna make it worse. Stupid morning shift. Stupid me for being poor and needing the morning shift.
I pout.
Namjoon walks over, dusting off his hands. Looking at my sad, tired face he just laughs "What?" He grins "what's wrong?"
I sigh "I'm dying. My brain is dying."
"You know there was a case study not to long ago about a boy who was in a coma, considered to be brain dead. They announced to the family prematurely that the probability of him returning to consciousness was extremely unlikely due to the premise that this was a terminal neurologic disorder. However, the variations the Scientist and Doctors drastically overlooked was th-"

"Okay, Joonnie?" I hold one hand out to him and the other messaging my temple "I'm gonna have to stop you right there. You're making it worse. You're literally frying my brain."
"Ahh,.. sorry." Joon chuckles, pressing his lips together" I guess it's a bit early to reconsider the line between life and death."
"One step ahead of you Joon." I say using both hands to massage my head "I've been reconsidering alllll morning."
Joon brings a chair out from storage and sits with me behind the counter. We chat a while, drinking our coffees while the slow morning progresses. Honestly, most of our conversation consists of making fun of Hoseok and Jungkook. We get along pretty well, not as well as Jungkook and I, but we're still fairly tight. We defiantly make fun of each other far less, and when I'm not super tired, we actually have some pretty deep and meaningful conversations. It's nice, I always leave our conversations feeling like my IQ has risen at least 10 points.
Unfortunately, my math professor would beg to differ.
A few customers came in this morning, dwindling as it got closer to noon. Only college students come in at this point, grabbing snacks before classes start. I would've been among them but seeing as I'm on my own, I wouldn't be able to afford more classes. Besides, I can barely afford food as it is. The evidence of this can be heard loud and clear as my stomach grumbles while I finish up restocking the water.
I rub my pitiful, empty stomach.
"I'M so HungRY. I'M so HungRY. I"VE got no FOoDIES. FOR MY TUMM!" I sing out to myself, thinking all the customers had left. I don't really care if Joon sees me be a weirdo, It's not a secret he hasn't discovered. So naturally, I sing it for a second time. But this time, with more passion and emotion, putting all two months of 3rd-grade drama club finesse into it.
I hear Joon chuckle behind me. I smile at his new, odd laugh.
"thank you, thank you"
The bathroom door opens. "Hey Mo, I'm done with my bathroom break." Joon calls.
wait,...
My eyes widen in surprise, eyebrows raised in confusion.
if Joon was,.... then who,...
I turn around.
It's HIM
"Ohmygosh!" I yell in surprise, falling backward on my hand from my crouched position.

He only chuckles more at me, windshield laughter breaking through in genuine amusement.
I put a hand to my racing heart. "How is it that you're always around when something embarrassing happens? You're like my bad luck charm"
He shrugs "I get that alot. You could say I'm the cause of downfall of all woman kind."
I raise my brows at him. wow, confident. At least he knows he's gorgeous.
He smiles warmly at me, showing he was joking. A slight smile grows across my face too.
"How come you're always hungry every time I see you?" He mimics my question, grabbing two peach milks.
"ahh,.." I sigh. "You know, just the average poor college student" I laugh, trying to play off my pitiful life as a joke. Which, I mean, it is.
He nods his head in understanding. "Is that why you work almost every day?"
I stare at him, slightly creeped out.
He stares back, waiting innocently for an answer.
"How,... do you know that?" I take a step back.
"Oh no! I'm not a creep or anything I swear! I come in everyday and see you- wait, that sounds wrong. I DO come in, but not JUST to see you. I come in to get food, and you just so happen to be here......." He stumbles over his words, shaking his hands, trying to clear the misunderstanding. "I'm not a creep..."
I burst out laughing, folding over in fits of death. He's so cute.
As I die of laughter, he awkwardly chuckles, a huge contrast to the cocky, playful attitude he sowed just a second ago.
I slowly calm down, standing straight again.
"I'm sorry" I say, wiping away a tear." Don't worry, I believe you." I give a last little chuckle. "I'm Momo by the way." I stick my hand out, waiting for his.
"I'm Jin." He shakes my hand. "Or you can call me Mr. Worldwide"
"....like Pitbull?"
He winks at me "Only better."
And the cockiness is back.
I scrunch my nose. "Yea, or not."
He puts his hand to his heart, making a dramatic, pained ahh "You hurt me Momo."
I laugh at him, shaking my head "Okay, well the band aids are on aisle 2. Let me know when you're ready to check out Jin." I say, needing to get back to work.
I turn from him smiling, walking back to the counter. Namjoon looks at me confused.
"What?" I ask
"I'm surprised you've just met Jin, he's been a regular for like three years. He comes almost every day." He replies with a small head tilt.
I shrug in reply,"I've only seen him a couple times, that I can remember."
"You're very unobservant."
"well I'm observant enough to notice that your flies still unziped" I rebuttal walking in the back to throw away the cardboard boxes from the waters.
Joon quickly looks down to check only to realize he's been played. He looks out the window, feeling ashamed of his gullibility.
Just as I come back, Jin walks up to the counter, putting down two ramens and two peach milks.
"Hungry?" I question playfully, scanning the items." 7,000"
"yeaa,.." Jin awkwardly says, handing me a ten thousand won.
I hand him his change.
"Actually" he shyly pushes a ramen and a milk to me" These are for you,....for believing I'm not a creep."
I smile "really?"
He nods, smiling back
"Blessed hallelujah!" I reach for the items but stop, remembering my manners" .... you don't have too, I'm okay." half-heartedly, I push them away.
" No, really, I want to. Please," He says pushing them back "have them."
"Thank you Jin, have a good day, okay?" I call as he gathers his items and walks away.
"You too!!"He bids me farewell.
The door dings as he walks out.
I smile watching him run through the cold, bitting the corner of my lip to keep from laughing as he slips on a patch of ice. Suddenly an odd feeling of eyes creeps up on me and makes the hairs on my neck stand straight.
I glance over at Namjoon, who's been silently watching.
He puts his chin down, bites his whole lip and wiggles his eyebrows.
My smiling face instantly turns to a scowl. "Shut up."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!

DISCLAIMER!!!!!!This book is probably very bad! Who am I kidding? there's no probably, it's very bad. There are probably some things that don't make sense or don't add up, and the writing in the first chapters (or all) is bad.I know I have improved but this was just a warning, so I don't get cussed out in the comments. Lol, jk. I wrote this when I was younger (I hated editing) so there are a lot of mistakes with capitalizing, punctuation, sentence structure etc.Read at your own risk. You were warned.************Excerpt. The pounding of my head could be heard from a mile away. I closed my eyes tightly and tried not to focus on the pain. I was becoming irritated by both the headache and the stupid chains. I opened my eyes and looked over at my sister, she was sleeping with her head hanging low. I looked away from her and pulled on the chains, ignoring the migraine I'm pretty sure I have. This is just pure cruelty, I really prefered staying in the room. I looked around the room, for what felt like the millionth time within this hour.I took a deep and long breath before I just let my hands hang to the sides of my head in the chains. My breathing slowed and I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes a while after I noticed that someone was in the room. "What are you doing in here?" I asked.~~~~~~~~Highest Rank #1 in General Fiction.New cover made by @lexusloveangels. Thanks again, I love it.
