《Chubs | KSJ》Does Stranger Danger Apply to Hot Chocolate?

It's so cold, it's so cold, it's so FREAKING COLD.

My frozen hands pull out my phone to check the time, 2:46. Frick, I'm gonna be late to work again!

I start speed walking, borderline galloping like a freaking horse to my car across my school campus. My professor got a little too passionate today and forgot to give us the quiz until the last minute. And since Lord knows I completely forgot to study, it took me a while to make educated guesses. Thus now I am rushing to work, 16 minutes late.

The cold wind blows again and I whine in protest.

Stupid winter, with your stupid will to kill me. I shoulda wore two pairs of gloves.

Just as I get halfway to my car, my phone rings. I pull it out of my pocket again. 7/11, my work. I swipe the screen to answer but it continues to ring. "freaking touch screen, freaking gloves" I mutter as I use my chin to answer the call. There was NO way I was about to risk taking off my gloves just to answer the phone.

"..hello?" I ask meekly, waiting to be yelled at.

"Hey, I just wanted to remind you that you're late." He says monotone. I roll my eyes, at least it's just him and not my boss. He might be annoying sometimes but he's nothing compared to our scary boss.

"Thaaaanks Jungkook, I didn't notice." I reply sarcastically. "I'll be there soon." I get in my car and blast the heater. Haha, take that mother nature!

"Good. I got you Starbucks coffee today since you had that quiz,..." Jungkook said. My smile grows at the thought of coffee. awww such a good dongsaeng . "But you took too long so I drank it."

My smile disappears. I take back everything nice I've said about him.

"Wow." I say, sarcastically disappointed as I back out of my parking spot." That was a roller-coaster of emotions."

"Yea well, you shoulda got here on time. Then you wouldn't have to wallow in your pool of self inflicted misery." Jungkook says. Even through the phone I could just FEEL his snarky little smile on his face.

He's seriously just like a little brother, he's a high school senior who's been working with me at the convenience store for a couple years now. When he first started, he told me that he was a sophomore but I thought he was a sophomore in college like I was at the time. Occasionally I would talk about college stuff and he would just go right along with it. FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR!

The only reason I found out he was in high school was because I spotted him one day with his old girlfriend in their uniforms and made fun of him, thinking he was into some weird roleplaying, hentai or something. He, of course, revealed the truth at that point. Since he had his "weeb ego" at stake in front of his non-weeb GF.

From then, we've had a great relationship filled with constant bickering and low-key kindness and concern for one another.

"I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now." I say in a high pitched voice as I speed through the traffic. I hear him softly laugh on the other side and then quickly greet a customer. "Okay, I'm hanging up I'm almost there."

"Okay seeya loser, don't get another speeding ticket."

I open my mouth to defend myself but, I didn't get the chance. The line went dead. He hung up on me.

I huff, rolling my eyes. Millennials these days.

I throw my phone into my bag and pull into the employee parking. I quickly grab my uniform and bag and rush through the cold to the entrance of 7/11.

"OKAY IM HERE!" I yell running in and to the bathrooms to change, not noticing the wet floor signs."I JUST NEED TO CHA---aaaAAHH!" I yelp as my feet suddenly slide underneath me and I fall on my butt. "ow." The pain rages through my spine, concentrated at my tailbone.

"oh my gosh," I hear a male customer say, his voice light but vintage and full at the same time "are you okay?"

"....watch out, floor's wet." Jungkook boredly says, picking at his nails, smirking at me when I turn to glare at him. With a red nose from the cold and red cheeks from embarrassment, I glue my eyes to the floor and mutter "I'm fine." to the customer. Quickly I get up and escape to the security of the bathroom.

I change my clothes and go pee, cursing my reflection in the mirror as I wash my hands. "fricking idiot, why didn't you just slow down? you were already late, running wasn't going to reverse time!" Roughly rip the paper towel rips out of the dispenser and I dry my hands, repeatedly muttering insults at them.(2019 editing Pam: wow, the beginning of this sentence was so rough, I'm not even going to change it. That's talent right there.)

I chuck the paper down into the trash bin, letting out an exasperated whine, thinking about my idiocy. I hit my head, hoping to knock some sense into it.

This is SOOOOoooo embarrassing!!

With a final grunt, I leave the restroom, making sure to walk slowly around the wet floor to the counter, joining Jungkook.

He looks up at me with a smirk, about to mock me.

"DON'T YOU DARE SAY ANYTHING! That was traumatizing!!" I say, hiding my face with my hands.

"Fine." Jungkook shrugs "guess you don't want this hot chocolate, I'll drink it."

"what?" I perk up, peeking out from my embarrassment shield. " What hot chocolate?"

Jungkook smugly picks up a steaming foam cup and blows on it before putting it to his lips. My mouth waters at the sight. I quickly snatch it from his hands, taking a victorious sip.

"Thanks Jungkookie, you're a doll!"

He rolls his eyes"Did you eat yet today?"

"ahh, no. I was in a rush,"The door rings and a customer comes in, Jungkook half greets them."so I didn't have time."

"again?" Jungkook sighs at me. "Hey, did you forget something?"He says to the customer.

oh, no.that must be-

I look over at the familiar customer, still embarrassed. My breath catches in my throat and I instantly glance away, he was cute. This just makes the situation even worse. Not only did I embarrass myself, but it was in front of someone who looks like a freaking model.

"Yea, actually I meant to buy some gum too."He explains, chuckling and walking over to the counter.

"ahh no problem, I can ring you up."Jungkook grabs the gum. My eyes find their way back to him like a magnet.

The closer the man got the worse I felt. He was drop-dead gorgeous. His dark brown hair was expertly tousled by the wind, his circle glasses lay casually on the end of his smooth nose, his big eyes, his full lips, and his HEIGHT. God, it was enough to make any girl swoon. He was so casually but unearthly, beautiful. And I made a fool of myself in front of him.

"That'll be 1,000 won"Jungkook says, breaking my thoughts. The holy man before me hands JK the money. I stare, inspired by his beauty. He eventually notices, glancing over at me periodically. He grabs his change and looks at me again as he puts it into his wallet.

His eyes travel down to the cup I'm still griping and smiles. With a feeling of accomplishment, he looks back up at me. "Enjoy the hot chocolate, try to walk carefully next time." He takes a step back "hope you didn't get too hurt.... you guys have a nice day." He gives a slight bow as he leaves the store. But his effect lingers, instantly flushing my cheeks a bright red.

I turn to Jungkook and point to the coco, "He bought this didn't he?"

Jungkook looked at the coco then at me with a small smile, nodding yes.

I look at it disgusted, "This is pity coco!" I slam it down on the counter.

Jungkook bubbles in laughter and I slam my head down on the counter too.

I really am a trauma victim, all I need is a freaking blanket on my shoulders and the look is complete.

I shoot my head back up, throwing a hand to the coco. "Is it even safe to drink hot chocolate from a stranger?!" slightly angry at Jungkook for not telling me before I drank some.

He cocks his head to the side "Does stranger danger apply to Hot Chocolate?" He sucks in air as he thinks. Shrugging his shoulders, he picks the coco up and takes a drink.

I groan, putting my head back on the counter, wallowing in a pool of my own self-inflicted misery.
