《Affair with a married man》Chapter 32

Maine was wonderful! The house he owned was on this side of a mountain so you could see everything. We had started working at the hospital and it was going great. I called and talked to my mom. She was shocked and upset. She did however decide she wanted to come up here and see me and talk to me.
I laid there on the couch snuggled up to Ben when our doorbell rang. I got up to answer it. I opened the door and there stood my mom. I smiled at her and she enveloped me in a hug. I let go of her and stepped back so she could walk in. Ben got up and came over: she gave him a polite smile. He took her bag from her and started up the stairs to the spare bedroom. I was so excited my mom was here for the next few days. I turned back to her. "Would you like a tour of the house?" I asked. "Of course." She said with a grin. I took her around to all of the rooms and ended with the bedroom that would be hers for the next few days. I pointed everything out like the closet and bathroom and then took her to my favorite part of her room, the balcony.
We came back downstairs and she came to the kitchen to help me fix supper. "How's daddy?" I asked after a while. "He's still angry and hurt..mainly hurt." She answered. I gave a slight nod. "Have you heard from Lexie?" I asked unsure if I wanted to know. Mom nodded. "I talked to Lexie before coming out here. She's mad and still in disbelief. She was shocked." I nodded. "I know." I answered. I looked up at her for a split second. She had a small smile on her lips. She reached out and gently touched my shoulder. I finished up supper and put it on plates before taking it to the kitchen and calling Ben over. We ate and talked about what it was like up here and about how our jobs at the hospital were going and our plans to start our own practice soon. We also talked about home and how everything was going. Everybody is shocked that we just left and never came back. I talked to Chelsea the other day and she's disappointed I left the way I did, she but isn't mad anymore. She's coming up next month. We finished dinner and Ben offered to clean them up since we cooked supper. I poured a glass of wine for my mother and a glass of tea for me and led mom out to the back deck. We sat in the rocking chairs sitting out there and looked at the spectacular view. We sat in silence a while before she looked over at me and cleared her throat. I looked over at her eyebrows raised.

"I came here to tell you some things. I came to see you of course but I wanted to come to talk to you." I nodded unsure of what she wanted to tell me. She took a sip of her wine and sat it down on the table in front of us.
"Jay 35 years ago I was in the same position you were in.. I fell in love with a married man. We started out much like you I assume. A few flirts here and there accidental touches, and before we knew it we were sleeping together. The only difference was he had a child. We slept together for several months before anyone found out. I was 17 and ended up pregnant with a married man's baby. He was prepared to do what Ben did. He wanted to leave his wife and run away with me. I of course wouldn't let him because of the son he already had." I gasped shocked. She nodded continuing. "I did the only thing I knew I could do. I went to my mother. Her and my father agreed to raise the baby and let me finish school and go to college..she never knew who the father was she just knew me and him couldn't be together and raise this baby.. So on March 10, 1981 I had Jeremy Philip Davis. who you know as uncle Jeremy. He knows I am his birth mother; Jason also knows, but I don't know if anybody else does. They told him when he was old enough. And now I'm telling you. I'm not saying any of this to make you feel bad or regret your decision. I'm just telling you I know what you're going through. And that I'm here for you." I smiled at my mom and wrapped her in a hug. "I love you mom. I'm really glad you came out here." She squeezed me back. "I'm glad I came too sweetie." I sat back in my chair and she did the same. "Well I was going to wait to tell anyone...fear of their reaction, but I'll go ahead and tell you...can you keep a secret?" I asked my mom. She nodded a smile creeping its way across her face.

"I'm pregnant." I said with a grin. She jumped up and pulled me up with her and threw her arms around me. "You're pregnant! My baby girl is pregnant! I'm going to be a grandma!" She squealed excitedly. I giggled. She let go of me and took a step back holding me at arms length. "You're glowing, absolutely glowing." She said happily. I laughed. "I'm just 13 weeks along..we have a long way to go." My mom wiped stray tears from her eye. "Sweetie it'll go by quicker than you can imagine." I nodded. "I'm sure it will...also me and Ben are getting married. I'm not sure when yet but it will be soon. We don't want a wedding or party of anything. We're just going to the court house." She gave a slight nod. "If that's what y'all want." I nodded. "It is. No fuss. We've both had the big wedding before..we just want this simple and easy." I explained. "Mom some times I miss him so much." I said my voice shaking. She wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into her. "I know baby. I know." She said softly. "It's not like it was unexpected or anything, but it still overwhelms me sometimes. Ben knows I love him, but he also knows I loved Will too." I said into her shoulder. "It's okay. Nobody said you weren't allowed to miss him." She said rubbing small circles on my back. "I'm really glad you came out here." I said after sitting in the quiet for a while. "Me too baby girl me too."

“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
