feat. the other boys sulking for having to leave
“hmm, the air here always feels so light!” (“it smells nicer today, too!”)
afuro giggled at you and looked around, “i think that's because we've already gotten deeper in the forest?” he guessed as you gave him an okay sign, “bingo! trees actually help make the air healthier. i once read in a book that leaves absorb air pollutants, which makes the air lighter and helps humans breathe easier.” (“heh, so our little terumi is reading books now, huh?”)
afuro only shook his head with a smile, watching you rant about how trees are very important and how it benefits to humans.
“aah! there it is!” you exclaimed and ran over to a glade which was a few distances away. “the sun's out today so it makes our secret place prettier than ever!” you giggled and yelled for afuro to come quickly. (“cue afuro's smug face: “yep, you heard that right, our secret place”)
as he walked to you, he watched as you ran to gush at the wild flowers by the side. shaking his head, afuro laid out the picnic blanket and settled the picnic hamper down. he sat and patted the seat next to him, calling you (“y/n! let's eat!”).
you went back to him with a bird on top of your shoulder. ‘... just like a forest elf...’ afuro stared at with a dazed look as you blinked and waved your hand in front of his face, “oi, terumi... our pretty terumi...” (cue you trynna slap him but he caught u red-handed: “oops...” )
“let's eat.” afuro said and regained his composure immediately (the other whipped boys: salute). “woah! who made the apple pie?” you asked as afuro gave you a slice, with grated cheese on top (bc you love cheese).

“kidou made one before he left when he heard we were going on a picnic.” you immediately cooed and wiped your (fake) tears (“i always knew deep down kidou adored me, but i didn't expect that it would be to this extent”).
“oh my, is that buttered corn?” you pointed to a container in front of you as afuro nodded, smiling. “yes, mizukamiya made sure to make one for you before leaving as well.” you only sniffled and fanned yourself.
afuro grabbed the last container inside the hamper and opened the lid. a familiar smell reached your nose making you choke on your pie.
“holy, is that shuuya's takoyaki?” you asked between (dying ;;) coughs, as afuro immediately handed you a glass of water, “yes, he remembered you loved them and so he made one.”
you felt touched and cried out, “aah, what should i do, those guys really love me so much. how did they even make time to do all this when they all have different plans today?”
afuro only chuckled, “those plans doesn't matter when it comes to you, manager.” he said as you deadpanned, “hey, don't say something cringe–worthy with a straight face, it gives me the chills...”
afuro only smiled at you, making you grab a spoonful of blueberry cheesecake. “let's just eat more...”
—
after eating and talking and talking and talking, a comfortable silence (finally) surrounded the two of you.
you looked down at the (empty) containers in front of you and placed all of them back into the hamper. you cleaned your surroundings and noticed afuro closing and opening his eyes (which made you coo).
“hey, are you sleepy?”
afuro only nodded with an apologizing look. you shook your head and proceeded to pat your lap.

“..?”
sensing the male's confusion, you only sighed and moved for a better distance, gently pushing him down (sideways ofc), laying his head on your lap.
“close your eyes and take a nap.” you said as afuro only blinked, looking up at you before closing his eyes. he relaxed as soon as you began to play with his hair, gathering his strands into a loose braid.
you started to hum a calming tune (scarborough fair ofc ;-;) and made a pretty crown out of the flowers by the side (with the help of your magic duh), bringing it to your hands and putting it on the crown of afuro's head. you gathered a bundle of flowers (with magic ofc) and plucked them from their stems, pinning them in afuro's braid randomly.
“now you look a lot more pretty...” you whispered as afuro only smiled. “hey, i told you to sleep.” you lightly scolded in a whisper, flicking his forehead lightly before tracing his features with your gentle fingers.
you began to hum a lullaby to help the male fall asleep. just when you thought he was about to, afuro suddenly grabbed a flower from your side and stretched his arm, bringing the flower to your hair and putting it beside your ear.
“now we're matching...”
he mumbled before falling into a slumber. you only smiled and grabbed his (pretty) hands, intertwining your fingers together.
“mmhm...”

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
