《The Gray Brothers✔️ (Wattpad version)》Heartbreak

They say heartbreak comes in many forms. My heartbreak came at the expense of humiliation. I could understand if someone doesn't like someone, then let them down gently. Don't humiliate them to the point of no return. That's so not cool.

My friends tried calling me. I refused to answer. The brothers tried to talk to me, but I refused to speak to them. I didn't need to feel any worse than I already did. Trust me. I felt horrible.

I heard a soft knock on my door. "Go away, Nash!"

"It's not Nash, sweetie. It's Pat. Can I come in?"

I sighed and got off the bed to answer the door. I saw Pat standing there and making a waving motion with her hand to the side of her. Her head turned to the side. I looked at her strangely as she turned to face me with an innocent smile.

"Let me guess. Did They put you up to this?" I asked her, acknowledging the brothers.

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

Liar.

"Fine. Come in. But only you, not the boys."

I heard a collective aww.

She walked inside, and I closed the door. I walked back over to my bed, sat down, and grabbed a pillow while hugging it. She took a seat next to me. "Maggie, please talk to me."

"What do you want to talk about, Pat? I liked a guy for four years, and he detests me. Or he humiliated me last night. Take your pick." I know my tone was harsh, but I felt like absolute shit.

"Maggie, the boy you liked wasn't the boy you should be with."

"Why does everyone keep saying that?"

"Because they see things you don't. Think about it. When we like someone, we look past all the bad things and focus on the good. Sometimes, when we focus on those things, we ignore what's in front of us. Trust me. I know."

"What do you mean?"

"Nate and I didn't always like each other. At one point, we hated each other."

"But you guys are like the perfect couple."

"Well, we didn't start that way. We were neighbors. There were three brothers, with Nate being the oldest by seven years. I grew up with one older brother and all of his friends. So, I had to deal with more testosterone than estrogen."

"I didn't know that."

"Yep, Nate and his brothers used to pick on me relentlessly as big brothers do to their little sisters. I hated them." She spoke in a throaty tone. I couldn't help but laugh at her exasperation. "But then, one day, that changed."

I looked at her. "What happened?"

"Well, I liked this boy. I thought he was my dream guy and tried to talk to him. It didn't go well. He degraded Nate and his brothers, with me taking exception. Things got heated, and I ended up on the receiving end of it. Well, Nate found out, and let's say that when he and his brothers got done, he was regretting his decision."

"He didn't?"

She nodded. "Nate gave him several free nose jobs. Anyway, then we talked and got to know each other. Then, after I turned eighteen, he asked me out. He wanted to wait until I was old enough, so it didn't look weird. I think the idea scared him."

"It didn't scare me!" We heard through the door.

"Oh, you hush!" She yelled at the door.

"Well, woman, if you'll tell a story, then tell it right!"

"I am! Now pipe down!"

They made me laugh. Then we heard Nixon say, "Hey, ask them if they want ice cream."

"Isn't it the wrong season for ice cream?" Noah asked.

"It's never the wrong time for ice cream. You give girls chocolate when it's that time of the month and ice cream when they're upset," Nathan said.

"Who told you that?" Nash asked him.

"Well, that's what Dad does for Ma," Nathan answered.

"He has a point," Nixon added.

Nate sighed. "How about ice cream?"

I looked at Pat. "Do they think ice cream will cure a broken heart?"

"It might not cure it, but it sure can help it."

"Can we get chocolate sprinkles and whip cream?" I asked at the door.

"We can get whatever you want, sweetheart!" Nate said.

"Fine." I grabbed my shoes and put them on. Ice cream isn't the answer, but it's a start.

We got up from my bed and opened the door to see the six of them standing there and smiling. I rolled my eyes and walked past them. So much for wallowing in my self-imposed misery.

After we got our ice cream, we sat out at the tables. I sat there enjoying my ice cream when Pat pushed Nash to sit with me. He gave her a look, and she gave him one back.

He sighed and walked over and took a seat across from me.

"What?" I took a spoonful of vanilla ice cream and shoved it into my mouth.

"Nothing." He shrugged.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I arched an eyebrow.

"You got a little of whip cream right there." He pointed to my face.

I felt around my face. "Where?"

"Right here." He took some whipped cream from his dessert and touched my nose with it. I gave him a look as he smiled. Then I glared at him.

"Well, you got some on yours." I grabbed some whipped cream and rubbed my hand all over his face. His family stopped and watched us.

"You need some chocolate sauce to go with that." He flung chocolate syrup at me.

"Well, you can't have a sundae without the ice cream." I picked up my treat and smashed it into his face. Then we caked each other with our ice cream as I squealed. After we finished, we looked at each other and started laughing.

"Come on, giggles and chuckles. You both need a shower." Nate ushered us to one car.

We couldn't help but laugh and make jokes about each other in the vehicle.

Nixon looked at his mother. "Is there a reason you did that?"

She looked at him. "Nix, sometimes we need a little push in the right direction to know who is good for us."

"Who says?"

"I say. Trust me. I know what's best." She smirked, walking away and getting into another car.

"What happened?" Nathan asked Nixon.

He looked at him. "Ma happened."

"Well, damn."

"Does this mean we have to help her?" Noah asked.

"What do you think? It's Ma."

"So, I guess I can't steal her bras anymore?" Nolan asked.

The three of them looked at him strangely.

"Not if you want Nash to kill you," Nixon replied.

"Bummer." Nolan shrugged.

"Boys! Hurry! Damn, you four are slow as molasses!" Pat shouted from the car window at them.

"Yes, ma," they all said.

Once we got to the house, Nash and I went to shower separately. I needed to get the stickiness off of me. That damn Nash started it. Has anyone ever had whip cream dry on them? It's like rubber cement, especially trying to get it out of your hair. After getting it out of my hair and cleaning the sticky residue of the sundae off of me, I got out of the shower.

I dried off and put on some clean, dry clothes. I brushed my hair. I had to admit that I felt a little better. Maybe this was what I needed. I walked out of the bathroom and saw Nash coming out of his room.

"All clean?" He asked me.

"Yep, although I don't think I ever want to wash whip cream off of me again."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I got ice cream in places that you should never have it."

I laughed.

"I take it you're feeling better."

"A little. I mean, having your heart crushed by your crush isn't fun, but I'll survive."

"He's a tool, anyway. From what Nix said, I don't think he'll feel or look too hot in school tomorrow."

I couldn't help but laughed. As we walked downstairs, I asked, "Is it a bad thing that I'm glad they rearranged his face?"

"Not at all."

I laughed even more. It was funny. Although the Gray brothers and I never got along, I have a newfound respect for them. Maybe this was the start of a beautiful friendship.
