to drown out her neverending thoughts.
miles of dark icy water,
wave upon wave of relief sought.
music was a language,
a beautiful tongue she understood.
the words enveloping her mind and soul,
lyrics living in her pulsing blood.
how many hundred times,
had words in a beat saved her life?
the message few others could hear,
pulling her through the darkness and the strife.
a savior, yet only a lyrical sound,
a friend that never once left.
music was a magic that kept her breathing,
when the world around her had gone deaf.
