《An Alexander Hamilton Love Story (Book 1)》Chapter 9~ Storm...

You woke up early in the morning. The elderly woman downstairs had sweetly made you a warm cup of coffee. It...wasn't necessarily good. But it was still a very sweet gesture. You sat on top of your bed and happily sipped your morning juice. After the secret letter you had written last night you had felt lighter and more at ease. However your ears burned bright red as you slowly looked at the desk drawer.

"That was possibly one of the best yet most embarrassing thing I have ever done." You sighed and stood for a nice stretch. You set the cup on top of your desk and made a mental note to return it later. Walking around you paused and sniffed the air. You flinched as an extremely unpleasant smell filled your nose. "Goodness how can this place smell this bad after only two days?" You shook yourself off. You quickly ran downstairs and received some cleaning supplies from the land-lady.

You heaved the mop, bucket, dusted, and various other supplies up the stairs. You threw them all into your apartment and hugged. "Alright then. Let's start cleaning."

After clearing all of your extra items out of the way, you began to mop the floors. You hated doing work like this on usual times, but loved it when you simply had nothing to do or if you really needed to clean. You scrubbed the floor back and forth and started to sway to the little rhythm. You had a knack for singing and dancing while you do House-work. An embarrassing habit when you lived in a small house with many family members.

But now, in your tiny apartment in New York where no one can see, your little habit was seeming to come to life yet again. You started to him lightly.

I'm trying to hold my breathe,

Let it stay this way.

Can't let this moment end.

Your mother had sang this song to you at night when she was lulling you to sleep. It was a love song that you have held closely to your heart for the longest time...

You set off a dream in me.

Getting louder now,

Can you hear it echoing?

You smiled softly to yourself and thought about Alex and the night at the ball where you both danced. It is something you will never forget. It was one of the best nights of your life. And ever since then something in you was magnetically pulled towards him.

Take my hand.

Will you share this, with me?

'Cause darling without you...

You spun around and held the mop close to you, thinking of Alex...

All the shine of a thousand spot-lights,

All the stars that we steal from the night sky

Will never be enough.

Never be enough!

You tripped a little and busted out laughing. You gasped and held the mop out, staring at it a little longingly. Dancing with Alex again would be a dream. But all you had was an old mop. You sighed. "I am becoming a bumbling lunatic." Nonetheless you closed your eyes and began to slowly mop and sing again.

Towers of gold are still too little.

These hands could hold the world but it'll,

Never be enough.

Never be enough.

For me!

You smiled and your heart swelled for Alex. Nothing truly would ever be enough. Nothing could replace Alex to you.

Never, Never!

Never, Never!

Never, for me.

Never enough!

Never enough!

Never enough!

For me.

For me!

For me!

Your voice began to shake and a single tear slipped your eye.

All the shine of a thousand spot-lights.

All the stars that we steal from the night sky,

Will never be enough.

Never be enough.

Towers of gold are still too little,

These hands could hold the world but it'll,

Never be enough.

Never be enough.

For me.

Never, Never.

Never, Never.

Never, for me.

For me!

Never enough!

Never, Never.

Never enough!

Never, Never.

Never enough.

For me.

For me!

For me!

...For me...

You panted heavily. Your hands were shaking badly, and your stomachs felt light and odd. You slowly wiped away your tears and began to start moping again. But you just couldn't. You cried and held your hands to your face and slid to the floor. "Damnit Alex..."

You cried and took in a shuddered breath. "I love you Alexander..."

————- A time skip ————-

After finally pulling yourself together you finished cleaning and decided to take a nap. It had taken around 2 hours to clean and you were satisfied with your work.

The nap itself lasted well over what you thought, and just like that the day was almost gone. "Well there goes any other hopes for being successful today." You chuckled. As you were folding your sheets in your ears began to take in a loud rapping sound coming from your window. "What?" You turned and gasped aloud.

Large amounts of rain were beating itself down onto the streets and on your window. "Gosh it's raining cats and dogs out there!" You could finally hear the wind howling like mad and the deep rolls of thunder. Your mind went to Alex and your stomach did a little twist. "There are a lot of trees around his house..." You worried your lip. You looked back outside. 'Am I sure that I want to brave this hell storm to go to Alex?' But you began to think that he is hurt, or that he is in some danger. You made your decision, and put on your thickest clothes and pair of shoes.

The wind and rain hit you like a cannon when you stepped outside. You were almost knocked to the ground, but you regained your footing and began to run. Everything looked muddled as you ran through the storm, but you made the right turns and quickly found yourself at Alex's residence. You breathed a sigh of relieve to see that his house was still all intact.

You ran up to the door and, surprisingly, the knob was able to twist. You opened the door and the wind almost knocked you over. "ALEX?!" You slammed your body against the door to get to shut it again. You panted hard and stumbled further into the house. The thunder and lighting was growing to be a roaring storm. "Alex where are you?"

You heard loud whimpers from upstairs. You sprinted up the stairs and ran down the halls. You could hear them coming from the guest room you usually stay in. You quickly ran inside. "Alex-!?" You spotted him curled up on the bed, rocking himself with his hands over his ears.

You have never seen a man resolved to such a terrified state before. "Alex?" His head snapped to your direction and your heart broke. In the flashes of lighting outside you could see his eyes large and puffed out from crying. His face was pure terror. "Y-Y/N..." You immeadietly went to his side and slowly sat next to him. "Alex, are you ok." He opened his mouth to answer, but a loud crack of lighting rendered him speechless.

You made a bold decision and decided to slowly lay down next to him. You opened your arms and slowly, gently, pulled him into you. You tensed up and waited for him to push you away or to yell at you to get out. But he didn't. He gladly pressed against you, fisting your shirt like an infant. You felt guilty for feeling happy about this, about him being so close. You pushed away your guilty thoughts and hugged him tight.

"Shh Alex. It will be alright." His sniffles made your heart break all over again. You rubbed his back comfortingly. "Alex you need to calm down..." He wasn't taking your advice and continued to cry. He was very close to hyperventilating. You remembered that your mother used to sing to you when you were frightened like this. Fear and embarrassment tugged at your stomach. But you were desperate to try anything to make him stop crying, so you started to sing softly.

All the shine of a thousand spot-lights,

All the stars that we steal from the night sky.

Will never be enough.

Never be enough...

Alex's breathing was beginning to slow and his sniffling was starting to come to a stop.

Towers of gold are still too little.

These hands could hold the world but it'll,

Never be enough.

Never be enough,

For me...

You slowed your singing to a stop when

you felt that his breathing was normal and his sniffles were a minimal. "Are you better Alex?" You felt his head move up and down slowly. You sighed of relief and nodded yourself. "Good." You looked down and froze. Alex had tilted his head upwards and was inches from your face. You both seemed to stop and stare at each other.

The whole world seemed to freeze along with the both of you. The air seemed tense now. Alex blinked a few times and seemed a little breathy. "Thank you...for...calming me down..." you swallowed thickly. "Yes it...it isn't a problem..." you could feel his breath hit your face, his lips were just an inch away. Alex's pupils were blown wide and you could see every detail of his beautiful brown eyes.

You realized you were still holding him close, but you didn't want to let go. Alex licked his lips a little. "Uhm...I...." He seemed speechless, which was astounding for him. You wanted to stay right here, in this moment forever. You swallowed again. "A-Ah...I-I think the storm has died down." You stuttered out. And it was true. The storm wasn't as loud as before, and had died down to a small sprinkle.

Alex blinked and shook his head. "Oh...yes. Yes it has." You slowly unwrapped your arms from him and sat up. He took a few more minutes to sit up, but he did. Your senses were all on Cloud 9. Your head was feeling light and a little dizzy. You noticed Alex was hugging his knees to his chest. "I apologize that you had to see me like that." You shook your head. "No its quite alright." You both fell back into silence. You glanced at him. "May...I ask a question?" Alex looked at you. "Maybe." You looked at your feet. "Why did you...react that way to the storm?"

Alex tensed up again and you regretted your question. "I am so sorry. I shouldn't have-." "It's ok." Alex interrupted. "It's alright. Erm the reason I react that way..." he ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath. "The reason I react that way is because of my past." You sat silently and made no sound. Alex continued. "When I was younger, around fifteen or sixteen, I was living on the island of Nevis. Which is also where I was born..." Your eyes widened unintentionally. 'He was born in Nevis? So far away...and he managed to make it all the way out here and thrive...'

"Anyways, when I was fifteen or sixteen I was just in my town. Minding my own business, when all of a sudden a colossal tropical storm hit...a hurricane." You held your breath. Alex's eyes were clouded over, like the brief look you had seen the first night you met him. "There was barely any shelter. None really. The hurricane ripped and teared at everything in its path. I-" his voice hitched. You frowned. "Alex, you don't have to-" "I watched as people, children, got dragged into the sky and be ripped to shreds." Tears flowed down his face.

He looked at me. "It was terrifying." You wanted to hold him, make him feel calm and safe again, but you knew there was no helping this. Alex took another deep shaky breath. "Somehow, I survived. I wanted others to know how much of a rotting hell that place was and how much it's people were suffering. So I wrote. I wrote pages and pages about the tragedies and heartbreak until I finally got myself away from that place..." he looked at you again. "And I came here."

'I had no idea...Alex...' With no shame now you pulled him close again and hugged him. "I'm so sorry Alex. I know I can't say or do anything to take that part of your past away from you, but know that you are here. Now. And that I will always stick by your side to try and comfort you." Alex hugged you tightly. "Thank you." You both held each other for a few lingering moments, then let go of one another.

You stood. "Well, if you'll have me I think I would like to stay over for the night to keep you company." Alex frowned. "Y/N, you don't have to-." "Oh don't get sentimental with me Alex." You smirked at him. He smiled softly. "Thank you." He stood as well and exited the room. You laid back down on your bed and stared at the ceiling for a long time. All that had played out a few minutes ago was too much to process. You rolled over in the bed and decided it was something to think on tomorrow...
