《Little Rich Boy》14

I finish my breakfast and slip into my denim jacket, matching with my blue jeans and white shirt. I'm about to head out, my hands on the door handle. I think twice. I think is time to start mending relationships. I walk to my mom studio and knock lightly on the door. I hear a muffled it's open on the other side. I open the door and sick my head in.
"Mom?" I say looking to her corner that she works.
"Humm ?" She hums not looking away from her work. I try not to get annoyed to fast.
"If you aren't busy..... do you think maybe you could.... uh..... come to the mall with me and help me pick out some shoes for Hadley? I've already picked a dress but I don't...." she puts her hand up looking at me.
"Not another word." I'm afraid she's mad at me for interrupting her in the middle of her work. "I would love to." She smiles at me and my shoulders loosen. She puts her brush down and gets up taking her apron off.
"Thanks mom." I say. The two of us walk to my car and we drive off to the mall, I lead her to the dress shop I was in yesterday. Walking up to the counter luckily the lady from yesterday is working.
"Excuse me, I have a dress on hold? We talked yesterday?" She looks confused at first.
"Oh yes, the black one." She smiles and goes to get it. She comes back and places it on the table, cashing it into the register. "This one correct? I went right into the dressing room, she was the only one in there and this was the only dress."
I take the dress and hold it up. "Yes, this is it." I smile, I can just see the smile on Hadley's face when she wears it. I pay for the dress and then we head out, my mom takes me to this shoe store that apparently she swears has the most elegant shoes on the market.
We spend twenty minutes looking at all kinds of heals and flats, putting them up to the dress, asking for the sales representatives opinion.
"How about these ones? Simple, elegant, yet still beautiful and go with the dress perfectly." My mom says holding up a simple pair of black heals with small gems along the heal, open toes. I take them out of her hands.
"Perfect, she'll love them." I look at the three pairs they have of this kind and take the ones that look the closest to Hadley size, I hope.
"What's your plan Dustin?" My mom asks me as we stand in the cash line.
"I'm going to give Hadley a nice night out, a fancy dress, some nice shoes and a break. I'm going to give her a fairy tail if I can. I want to give her the world." I smile at the shoes. I look to my mother and she has a smile on her face. "What?" I ask

"Nothing just, it's nice." She says " all that you're doing for her."

I was so nervous, I don't know why I know she'll say yes to going out. I called her dad and he says he has the night off so he's taking care of Oliver so she really doesn't have an excuse.
I walk into the store and see an older man behind the counter, the owner I assume. He smiles at me as I walk across the place to the back corner, the way you get upstairs. I must look odd, with a dress bag and shoes in hand. I hop up the stairs and knock on Hadley's door. She opens the door and her myth drops.
"What are you up to Fox? " she asks seeing the things in my hands and arms."is this some kind of intervention of sorts?" She asks crossing her arms over her chest and tilting her head off to the side.
I shake my head with a smile, I hand her the dress and shoes, "go change." I tell her she takes the dress and shoes then ties to hand them back to me.
"Dustin I can't, Oliver and..." she starts but her dad comes over and Interrupts her.
"Hadley, I've got Oliver. Go have fun live." He tells her. She looks to him looking for a second approval, almost like she's looking for hidden meaning in his face and voice. She must not see anything because she sighs.
"I do have my own clothes you know, shoes too, no need to spend 200 on a dress. " she argues
"You loved this dress in the store, I could tell, you're my girlfriend Hadley let me treat you, it's a gift." I say to her her father boxing in agreement beside her.
She sighs ," could have gotten me a stuffed bear or chocolate bar instead." She mumbles as she takes the outfit to another room to change. But I can tell she just doesn't like me spending money on her, she doesn't like anyone spending money on her.
Hadley's dad motions me to come in. I make my way to their small couch and take a seat, he sits down in the sits in the seat diagonal me.
"Thank you sit for making her available tonight." I thank him. He just smiles and hands his head slightly.
"Dustin, I should be the one to thank you. Hadley has always been the mother in this family. I honestly think she had less time to live then a regular mother, and she isn't even a real one she's a stand in. I must admit you make her happy. She's never smiled more been so happy since he mother left." He sighs. Folding his hands in his lap and rubbing them slightly just like Hadley always does.

"She's make me happier too sir." It's the only thing I can think to say. It's true. I'm really glad I bumped into Hadley that one morning.
He father and I talk a little more about random things, cars, sports, the best kind of chips that they sell in the store downstairs. Don't know how we got to that but we decided that the regular was the only ones that didn't taste like wax.
Hadley finally walks out of the room and I'm speechless as to how beautiful she is. Standing in front of me with the looks of an angel. It's like she's got a shine enlacing around her.
"What?" She asks face turning to worry. " do I look that bad? I thought I looked alright when I looked in the mirror." She says over.
Her dad smiles at her then Oliver calls for him. He stand up nods at me and kisses badly in the cheek when he passes her.
I stand up and grab Hadley's hands. "You're beautiful." I whisper, "like you always are." He face turns scarlet and she turns her face away from me.
"Alright fox, what's your sachem for tonight?" She says still trying to hide her blush. I hold her face in my hands and kiss her sweetly, soft and quick.
"Another adventure." I say taking her hand and leading her out of the apparent.
"How can it be an adventure if you know what it is? Didn't you say that unplanned adventures are the best ones?" She says as she hurries behind me still holding tightly to my hand.
"It may be planed but you have no idea what that plan is." I smirk, though she can't see me.
I open her door for her and she slides in" thank you Mr. Fox." She nods and buckles her seat belt. I close the door and round the front of the car so I can get into my seat.
For the entire ride I refuse to tell her where we are going. No matter how much she begs and pleas I'm not letting her know the plan. It's to good to spoil. I finally pull up to a fancy restaurant in the uptown area.
Hadley looks out her side window in awe. "Dustin this place is way to expensive." She says whipped her head to look at me.
"Doll your dressed the part now play it. Be fancy." I say and turn off my car. I get out and round to the other side to open her door for her. She steps out with hesitation. "Doll please, let me treat you." I say to her
"You already did fox." She says running her hand over the dress and looking at the shoes.
"Yeah and this," I say pointing to the restaurant. "Is part two." I say smiling and taking her hand. She rolls her eyes with a stupid smile on her face. "Lets go my lady." I say in a very old gentleman way.
When we walk into the place the lighting is dim and light music is playing in the background. I give the man my name and he leads up to a table in the back corner of the dinning room. We take a moment to look at the menu and order our food.
"Thank you very much." Hadley says and hands her menu to the waiter. I follow. He nods and walks away with our orders. I take a sip o the lemon water we got.
"This is too much Dustin." Haley says again. A smile to her face. I lean my hands on the table.
"It's never to much to show I love you Hadley." I say she just looks down and shakes her head. Did I say something wrong? "What's wrong, was it something I said?" I ask her worried I've hurt her feelings or something. Like I always end up doing.
"No it's just, Dustin you don't need to do this to say you love me." She says .
"I though you couldn't just say I love you, you've got to show it so that's what I'm doing?" I'm confused is she not happy.
"Don't get me wrong Dustin, I love this. But yeah you have to show love but even simple things can show how much you care. It doesn't need to be something big and extravagant, expensive. Simplicity can be the most beautiful and meaningful things. " she smiles at me her reassurance. "I would be just as happy staying in and watching a movie cuddled up on the couch."
"That's one other thing I really love about you Hadley." I say. " you never need a lot. You're not stuck on material things. You find happiness and meaning in the smallest of things."
She just perfect. She didn't not like the gesture , she just likes simple things more. I could hand her a penny and she would give it the meaning of a lifetime. She would hold it close to her heart, keep it in her wallet, pocket or at. And everyone she looks at it would be reminded of a happy time. Be grateful for that penny's presents in her life because of its simple significance to her. That's what's perfect about her.
