"so this child, his last name is unknown?"

"yes."

"what's his name?"

"joonwoo."

the man proceeded to type on his keyboard and scrolled through maybe hundreds of documents.

"age?"

"he's four."

"the only document where his name is found nearby lives in a two-bedroom apartment and goes to a pre-school. is that correct?"

"yes, he lives with me."

he looked at changkyun with a weird expression. "are you sure you're not the actual father?"

"...yes, sir. i went to sign for custody rights not too long ago for joonwoo."

"adopted father?"

"yes, for now. i found him wandering around the streets late at night around a month or so ago. i searched for at least a week around the area and no one has seen him around."

"did he ever tell you his last name? i know his last name is unknown, but can you think about it again?"

changkyun started to think intensely. to be quite honest, i've never seen him like this before. "his last name is a choi. i took joonwoo to where i had signed the documents that day. i asked him what his last name was, and he said choi."

"and your last name isn't choi?"

"no sir, my last name is im."

the man once again started typing on his keyboard and scrolled down. "there are at least ten under that name. but all but one are listed as deceased."

"can you please check that one?"

clicking on the documents, he skimmed through everything. "his parents' names are choi hwan and choi haneul."

"do you have any information about them?"

he nods, still searching on the monitor. not a minute has passed as he began to stare at the screen in shock. he seemed to snap out of it and stared at us. "how old are you?"

"i'm 24 today." changkyun says, with a faint smile on his face. the man nods and looks over to me. "i'm a college senior, so 23."

"are you sure you guys aren't lying to me?"

"no, sir. we have our birth certificates at home. we can come back if you-"

the man turns his computer screen to face us. "the father is 32 and the mother is 31. they look similar, no they look exactly like the both of you."

both of us stare at it in shock. questions ran through my head as i stare at basically people who looked exactly like us. changkyun and i stare at each other and back at the man, then returning to look at the screen.

"but why did they abandon their kid on the street?" i asked, concerned and frightened.

joonwoo gone through a lot, i can't believe his own parents would do that to him.

"it says their son is deceased."

"that can't be, joonwoo is with us. he's alive and eating well."

"i don't have the answers for you," the man proceeds to talk. "if you want, you can visit them and ask them the questions."

"how do we do that?"

"i'll print it out for you guys then check it out yourselves."

"thank you, sir."

"please, call me kihyun."
