BUZZZ

Arena's phone beeped and buzzed and then started dancing on her table. She eyed it suspicously then quickly snatched it up from her desk and fell back into her comfortable bed. Right into the mountain of pillows that were all differently colored.

Arena looked at the time and then opened her phone to see who so desperately wanted to talk to her that they had to interrupt her. She was currently reading her favorite book for the fifth time.

That book never got old. It made Arena feel like a bundle of emotions. After today's shift at the gas station, she needed some peace and quiet for her well being. She had left work with an aching head.

"Still alive?" Read the text Arena had gotten.

Kakao talk.

It was Kihyun.

Arena smiled for a second and felt relieved that he had kept his promise to text her. She had been afraid for a moment that what he had said were just empty words.

She bit her lip and rushed to text back.

"Can't you tell me "Hi" or sth like a normal person?"

"But I'm not..? You didn't answer my question."

Such a Kihyun thing to say. Arena had seen enough videos to know what he acted like. Yet again...

Thinking about these things made her head hurt even more.

She rubbed her forehead and wiped hair strands from her face. Her mascara was a little smudged but overall she was looking fine.

"I'm fine."

"Aren't you going to ask if I'm still alive?"

"Well there would be news about your death everywhere if u weren't alive, so I'm guessing you are alive."

"Oh right I'm famous."

Arena scoffed and shook her head.

This boy.

"Right."

"What are you up to?"

"Why are you texting me?"

Kihyun on the other side of the phone was sitting in a hairstylist chair getting his hair done for their last tour date in Atlanta.

He felt his heart skip a beat when he saw her message.

It would be so much better to have her here doing my makeup and hair. Thought Kihyun and started typing.

Arena got another text and opened it while carefully walking down the stairs to get some food.

Okay not carefully. She wasn't even looking where she was going.

"Because I said I would. I liked your company."

Arena scowled, "Like you don't have enough girls there."

Why was she being like this?

Arena closed her phone and was shocked to find that she missed a step. She lost her balance and fell down the last 7 steps of the stairs. The landed with a huge BANG on her right side. Arena thought she heard a crack, but couldn't be sure.

"Ohmygod ow that hurts." Arena was laying on the floor in front of the stairs, holding her rib.

She lifted up her shirt to reveal her ribs and winced at the sight of the swollen redness and a slowly forming big blue bruise.

Luckily she was home alone, so no one would ever find out about this.

Her phone was in her pocket and had fortunately survived the fall with just a minimal crack near the camera. Even Arena didn't know how.

Her ribs had gotten most of the fall though.

She started reaching for something so she could pull herself up but it was hopeless, there was absolutely nothing to hold onto, unless you count the walls and the stairs she had just tumbled down of.

Arena pulled herself to sit on the first step of the staircase. Her ribs were hurting like hell and lifting herself to the step had been horrible.

BUZZ

Her phone was still on the floor, buzzing.

Kihyun was still texting her.

When he was getting his hair done, she was struggling just to stand up.

Arena finally managed to stand up, holding her right ribs with her hand like she had precious diamonds there. She couldn't bend down to take her phone from the floor.

BUZZ

"Where is that damned ice pack?"

Arena staggered into the kitchen, and tried to find an ice pack with one hand, at the same time trying not to cause even more pain and stay on her feet.

She yanked the ice pack out of the cooler with her left hand and almost lost her balance again. Nothing like this had ever happened. Arena never fell down the stairs and she had been living in this house for years. How could she possible have missed a step?

BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

BUZZZZZZZZZ

"Ohmygod someone needs me to respond asap." Arena shook her head and limped to the spot on the floor, where her phone was laying.

Reaching for the phone wasn't easy. And if I say not easy I mean IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT.

"Ow ow ow ow." Arena had gotten her phone and was now laying on her back on the living room sofa, the ice pack on her ribs. She looked at her phone.

"I'm texting you and only you because I want to, okay?" "Where are you?" "Did you die?"

Arena typed slowly with her left hand, her right resting on the ice pack. Her ribs were burning with pain. Arena was afraid she had broken something. Her mom wouldn't be home for at least an hour and her dad had tennis today and she was way to tired and in too much pain to go get some painkillers.

She sighed heavily and continued her slow typing.

"Fell down the stairs."

"WHA? you okay?"

"My ribs hurt, otherwise I'm fine."

Kihyun was about to go on stage in 10 minutes, yet how could he possibly focus now that he knew Arena was in pain. He facepalmed. I'm such a cliché, thought Kihyun. You meet one girl and already everything changes.

"I have to go. Tell me how ur ribs are later. Stay alive!"

He heard his fans chanting ''Monsta X'' and then Kihyun knew, that they were the reason he was here. The reason he was doing what he loves, with the people he loves. His fans were everything.

Arena was also his fan.

Monsta X ran onto the stage. Their final tour date. This was the last one and then the tour would be over.

Kihyun was going to burn with everything he has for his fans.

At the same time, Arena was trying not to pass out in Colorado.

She may have a concussion plus what the hell was going on with her ribs. She put on a song from her phone. One of Kihyun's cover from his trainee days, "Hyeya". Everytime Arena listened to that song, she fell for the idol again and again.

The song was so raw. So pure. It made her heart hurt.

Right now it was supposed to calm her down. Arena hoped that he would do well on his last tour day.

That was the last thing she thought about before she passed out.

"Miss? Miss can you hear me?" Someone was leaning over Arena, carefully and not painfully slapping her cheek. She opened her eyes quickly to be blinded by the light.

"Ow." Arena groaned.

"Oh god she's awake."

Was that her mom?

Arena tried opening her eyes again, this time one at a time.

"Where am I?"

"How are you feeling?" A female paramedic was standing over her.

A sharp pain knocked the breath out of Arena when she tried to move. Her rib.

"My rib..." Arena barely got the words out.

"Is it okay if I take a look?" The paramedic was nice and young. She was someone you felt comfortable with no matter how much or well you knew them.

The paramedic, who told that her name was Jennifer, lifted up Arena's huge black T-shirt.

She touched it gently with her fingers, trying to not cause Arena any pain.

"Okay..." she pulled the shirt back down, "I think your rib might be broken. We're going to need to take you to the hospital for an X-ray, okay?" Jennifer smiled.

Arena had a tear in the corner of her eye, she nodded slowly.

Jennifer looked around and called out with a clear, loud voice, signaling the other paramedics to bring in the stretcher. In total there were 3 paramedics: Jennifer and two other guys. The guys carefully lifted Arena onto the stretcher and Arena's mom laid a blanket on her.

"Mom, what happened?"

They were carrying out Arena on the stretcher, lifting the stretcher into the Emergency Mobile. The guys sat at the front, one of them behind the wheel, the other one riding shotgun. Arena was on the stretcher in the back, her mom and Jennifer sitting next to her.

Her mom patted her hair gently.

"I came home to see you with an ice pack on your rib and then when I tried to wake you up, you wouldn't open your eyes and your breathing was almost nonexistent so I panicked and called the paramedics."

Jennifer smiled at Arena's mom. "Arena, I'm going to insert a cannula into your vein, there's going to be painkillers inside the drip-feeder." She did as she said she would. Arena winced once at the insertion of the cannula. Jennifer carefully placed a medical breathing mask on Arena, because breathing hurt very much on her own.

Breathing meant moving her ribs. And Arena really didn't want to move her ribs. She didn't want to move any part of her body whatsoever.

Breathing with the breathing mask was so much easier. It's like it was breathing for her. Arena felt the painkillers very slowly one by one, starting to kick in. Her breathing eased, as she started to lose the feeling of pain in her rib. Her eyes started to fall closed, but Jennifer tapped on her forehead.

"Don't fall asleep. You have a concussion, it's dangerous now. Stay awake, we'll be in the hospital in 15 minutes."

Arena didn't bother speaking, but she did give a small nod.

When they finally got to the hospital, everything happened so fast.

Arena was taken inside the hospital on the stretcher, she had an x-ray taken of her ribs, a new cannula inserted into her vein. Her rib was fortunately only a little cracked, not broken. They put a supportive, removable cast on her rib, lifted her into one of the hospital beds, gave her medication and then wheeled her into a hospital room with the bed.

It felt like everything had gone by in a second. Arena was drowsy from the painkillers and medication. Her mom was sitting in an armchair near her daughter, reading a magazine. Arena's dad had called when he got home to find the home empty. He was on his way.

Arena had been clothed in hospital clothes and her mom had braided her hair into one french braid. She wasn't wearing the breathing mask anymore, she had special tubes going into her nostrils. It wasn't very comfortable and Arena remembered a movie she saw with Naha. "The Fault in Our Stars", Arena clearly remembered similar tubes going into Hazel's own nostrils to help her breathe. Arena couldn't imagine wearing them all the time herself.

"Mom?" Arena's voice was raw.

Her mom put down her magazine and leaned forward to pat Arena's hair. "Yes?"

"Can I sleep now?"

Her mom nodded, "Of course you can."

So Arena closed her eyes.
