while y/n was in her room, she got a text from kihyun.

y/n, i need to see you.

she looked at her alarm clock. 12:41 a.m. why does he want to see me so late so suddenly?

she decided to text back.

at this hour?

kihyun, it's late though

: i need someone to talk to

: the others kicked me out of the dorm

: what? why would they do that?

: i can't say why, but i need to talk to someone, and the only person i could think of was you

: there aren't many places open now

: meet me at my porch?

: i'll be there quickly

: thanks y/n.

: yep!

y/n quickly put on a hoodie and walked downstairs. she saw her father and mother watching tv in the living room.

"what are you doing?" hyungwon asked, finding her walking towards the front door.

"i need some fresh air. i'll be in the front, that's all." she replied, exiting the house. she sat on the porch step, waiting for her friend to arrive.

not much later, kihyun comes, quickly walking to her. he sat down with a big sigh.

"so, what's up?" she started the conversation, looking at him with a worried look.

"it's, um," he tried to find the right words. "just problems."

"what kind?"

"a few personal problems, but i'll try and explain it the best i can without feeling uncomfortable. y/n, what if you had a friend that liked the same guy as you? how would you feel?"

"that's such an unexpected question. well, i'd feel jealous at first. but then i have to accept the fact that i'll have no chance anyway because my friend is way better than me."

"what makes you say that?"

"i don't have much self-confidence. i always think like that."

"you shouldn't. you are most likely way better than that friend-"

"keyword, likely. it's not positive."

"you get my point, right?"

"yeah. but, hey, this isn't about me, this is about you. so, why did you ask that?"

"let's put this in another situation. let's say me, and i don't know, changkyun. we both like the same girl, and he comes to me saying that the girl is his because he liked her longer. how am i supposed to deal with it?"

"well, you have every right to be mad at him. he shouldn't have said that however, you have to accept the fact that your friend likes the same girl."

"is there any way i can like, you know, make the girl like me back?"

"impress her, flirt with her, give her presents and flowers. girls like the little things and thoughts."

is that really it? he asked himself in his head.

"just like that?"

"yeah. i'm a bit curious to see why you're asking these types of questions all of a sudden."

"i can't explain now. but, i don't know if i should go back to the others. i made a pretty bad last move."

"it can't be that bad, right?"

"the maknaes are not using formalities anymore."

"ooh. i don't know if my dad would let you stay over, but-"

"i think that would be a bad idea anyway. i'll cool off for a while longer, and i'll head back."

"sounds like a good idea."

the two just sat on her porch, not saying a word to each other. she was starting to feel a little uncomfortable with the silence, so she decided to break it.

"so, i heard what my dad gave you guys for the last monthly evaluation." she told him.

"o-oh yeah, it is pretty tough. the others were starting it just before i went out, and i feel bad for not contributing."

"i can give you some tips if you guys need help."

"i'm not good at writing, so please tell me."

"since you're a vocalist, it's easier than rappers. write things that pop into your head, but make it make sense and make it relate to the topic."

"you make it sound so easy."

"i sometimes write my own lyrics for fun, but it's just something i do when i'm bored."

"really?"

"yeah."

"could you show me one?"

"i-it's not that good. i'll show one to you when i feel like it's alright."

"i'm sure it's amazing."

y/n giggled in embarrassment. she looked at kihyun, who just smiled back. he has a cute smile. she thought, then mentally slapped herself. why am i thinking like this?
