Another songfic, yay!

I happened to be sitting in the car when I heard this song and it just sort of resonated with Sequelshipping for me. They need each other and I feel like sometimes they don't realize that.

The song is "When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne, some good ol' pre 2010s

The song will be posted with the chapter for those of you who haven't heard it or those of you who want to hear it lol. The song lyrics are in italics

Mei stood in front of a door in the rain. It soaked her hair and her clothes, but she paid no heed to it as she stood there, arm suspended in the air as she hesitated to knock.

She didnt want to believe that she was here. After all she was the one that told him she didn't need to be.

I always needed time on my own

Mei had told Hyuu that she could continue her journey by herself. That he could go home, since he had found his sister's Purrloin.

He had shot her a look of concern when she had said it, but ultimately agreed to let her travel on her own. After all, she had done so before, why not now?

I never thought I'd need you there when I cry

She sniffled, trying to dry her tears. She hoped that the rain would mask some of them, but her eyes were no doubt red. Her sharp intakes of breath and quivering shoulders also gave her away as she finally gave a meek knock on the door.

There was no response.

And the days feel like years when I'm alone

She knocked again, a little louder this time. Again no response. Her heart sank again, she wanted to see him. Needed to see him. She had held out for so long, she thought she was strong, but she wasn't.

She rounded the house to a side window where she knew the boy's room was and peered in.

And the bed where you lie, is made up on your side

There was no one, the light was off. They weren't there. She couldn't take it.

She remembered back, two weeks after she had decided to go it her own, Hyuu had called her on the Xtransciever. His face was something of a relief to her, but he asked if she was sure she didn't want him to come along.

She didn't know why, but she snapped telling him that she would never need him. She wanted him to be with his family, like he wanted to be, but he was making it so hard for her to let him.

When you walk away, I count the steps that you take

She remembers clearly seeing his figure leave her behind as he headed home. If she had known it was going to end up like this, she never wanted to go on a Pokemon journey. She wanted to be where he was.

Can't you see how much I need you right now?

Warm tears began pouring down her face in streams, she covered her mouth with the back of her hand to muffle her sobs. With her back against the wall she sank to her knees, letting the rain wash over her as it rained harder.

When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missin' you

She had heard of heartbreak, but she never thought it to be this excruciatingly painful. Knowing that not only had she pushed him away, he probably hated her now.

Not only did she not know where he was, she didn't even know if he would be happy to see her.

When you're gone, the face I came to know is missin' too

When she had called him on the Xtransciever days before, he hadn't answered. All memories of his pleasant face were overridden in her mind with his face of shock when she had yelled at him.

It made her feel sick.

When you're gone, the words I need to hear to always get me through the day, and make it okay:

She clutched her knees close to her chest and buried her face in them. She wanted to hear his voice, it was pathetic, the way she was acting, but she couldn't stop.

"I miss you."

She heard rustling at the front door and jumped up, running around the corner of the house. She caught sight of a person entering the door and called out.

"Wait...!" She said weakly, her voice cracking.

The figure turned and she recognized it as Hyuu's mom. A look of worry spread through her features and she set down the grocery bags she had been holding to rush over to the girl.

"Mei is that you? Dear what happened?!"she asked, guiding the girl inside, inside, "Let's get you in the house before you catch a cold."

I've never felt this way before

His mother's embrace made her feel a little better, but it didn't quell the deep ache inside her chest. She wanted Hyuu to hold her, though at the moment she was doubting that it was ever going to happen.

"I'll get you some clothes, follow me." She said leading Mei down a hallway. Pictures of her and Hyuu as children covered the hallway.

Everything that I do, reminds me of you

Every picture brought back memories, once a joy to recall, now stained with her current point of view.

"Here wear these. They'll be a little big, but their warm and dry, so that's better than nothing." She said, handing Mei some dry clothes.

"You can get dressed in Hyuu's room, he's not here now, he'll be back in a little while. I'll tell him to knock first." His mother said, and Mei just nodded blankly taking the clothes before heading down the hall to the room she knew so well.

And the clothes you left, they lie on the floor

She slid the shorts on first, and then the shirt. They were a little baggy but not much. A scent wafted over her as she put them on, and she lifted the shirt to smell it again.

Memories of hugs and close moments pried through her mind, threatening to make her tears fall once again.

And they smell just like you, I love the things that you do

She sat on the edge of his bed, staring out the window at the rain. Then her eyes wandered around the room. She was starting to have second thoughts about being here.

She felt out of place. She had been confident that she could do well without him, but in the end, it seemed that he was the one doing fine without her.

When you walk away, I count the steps that you take

She tried to imagine what it would be like when he walked through the door. Awkward, tense, or maybe he'd tell her to leave.

No, he was too nice to tell her to do that. Unless she had angered him, then it was entirely possible.

She had often seen him angry, but never was that anger directed at her. It broke her heart more to imagine being at the receiving end.

Can't you see how much I need you right now?

But the more she thought on the memories, whether interpreted now as good or bad, the more she needed him with her.

She wanted to see him, and that's all that mattered.

When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missin' you

She heard the front door open and close, along with faint sounds of conversation down the hallway. Her heart jumped to her throat.

When you're gone, the face I came to know is missin' too

She sat where she was, a wave of guilt suddenly flowing over her as she heard footsteps down the hall. She had pushed him away, and now she had the audacity to show up here again and beg for forgiveness?

When you're gone, the words I need to hear to always get me through the day, and make it okay:

She heard a shallow knock at the door and panic rose within her. Tears that she had fought to keep down now pricked the edges of her eyes and she felt herself clutching to the shirt she wore for dear life.

A moment of silence passed and she almost thought he had left before she heard the doorknob click.

The door opened, letting light into the dark room where she sat. She tensed up as she heard the door close behind him. With each footstep she heard on the floor her heart beat with that much more worry.

She then felt the bed creak as someone sat down next to her, and another silence ensued, this one holding tension so thick she swore she could cut it.

"I miss you."

"Mei." She heard him say, breaking the silence.

She didn't look at him. She couldn't bring herself to at first.

"Are you hurt? Did something happen? If I'm gonna help I have to know what happened, dork." He said, a little jokingly at the end, but it still held its meaning.

She felt her shoulders quiver as he spoke, his beautiful voice bringing her to a sobbing state.

"Whoa. Hey, calm down, alright?" He tried to calm her down, well at least the best way he knew how. He wasn't great at this sort of thing, but it worked for Mei at least.

"I missed you so much." She said in between gasps for air as she bawled. He was here, and he didn't hate her, and those were the two best things that she could've ever hoped for.

His arms wrapped themselves around her waist, bringing her closer. He rested his head on her back just under her neck.

It was an awkward angle, but she still reveled in the contact nonetheless.

We were made for each other, out here forever, I know we were

"I thought you'd be mad." She confessed, taking his hands off of her stomachs to hold them in her own, interlacing their fingers.

"Why?" He asked, genuinely confused.

"I left, I yelled at you, why wouldn't you be mad?"

"I know I get mad a lot, but I don't ever think I could be mad at you, at least not for real." He said, his words a little spaced out as he thought of how to word his sentence.

"If you want me to go away I will. If you want me to be here I will. Though I hope your want me to be here more often." He said, giving a lighthearted chuckle.

And all I ever wanted was for you to know, everything I do I give my heart and soul

She felt a warmth spread through her, one she had never felt quite like this before.

"I want you here... always." She said, and she felt his hands grip hers tighter.

"Then I will be." He responded almost immediately and her heart soared.

I can hardly breathe; I need to feel you here with me

Her chest began to relax and her eyes were watering for a different reason. All those memories were happy again, and this was just another roadblock in her life.

And she'd never have to go through it alone again.

Hyuu spoke up again, shifting so that she was sitting in his lap, not in an intimate fashion, but an innocent one that displayed his need to hold her close to him.

When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missin' you

"I missed you a lot too, Mei." He said, clutching to her. She could now see his face, which was brimming with tears as well. Up until now she had never seen the boy cry.

When you're gone, the face I came to know is missin' too

She looked at her face, before resting her head against his shoulder. Everything was alright now that they were together again. She never be a fool again as to leave him behind.

When you're gone, the words I need to hear to always get me through the day, and make it okay:

They sat in a new silence, one that wasn't awkward or tense, just comforting and relaxing, holding each other as they took in each other's presence.

"I miss you."
