This chapter actually took a lot of though and planning, I had to revise the idea several times I'm n my head as a result.
I usually tend to write stories where people fall in love over a larger amount of time like a couple months or years, but this time I wanted to try my hand at a more cliche romance that takes place over a shot period of time.
Kotone's love feels rushed and not fully realized as she talks to a person whom she has never met.

Enjoy.
"Hey Kotone, wanna hang out with me and Joey this Saturday?" Silver, Kotone's best friend asked her when the bell rang after class.
"Sure, what're we doing?" She asked, she hadn't looked up from her phone yet. They did stuff like this all the time, she guessed that they were probably going to watch a movie.
"I rented that new superhero movie, you can bring one other person, but so help me god it cant be Whitney this time." He said, a look of annoyance crossing his features. She didn't blame him, Whitney could be rather loud and emotional during movies.
"Wait, you rented Black Persian?! I wanted to see that one so bad!" She jumped up out of her seat once she had registered what movie he had been referring to.
She settled down as they walked out, heading home. Joey accompanied them as well, "So how about Clair? Can I invite her?" She asked Silver, he knew that Silver didn't like many people at their school. In all honesty Joey was the only other person she knew that he hung out with, she knew there were a couple others. Clair was one of the few people that Silver tolerated, though Kotone hadn't met her.
"Can I tell you guys about how awesome my pet rat is? He's like number one." Joey started his daily rant about his rat that he did everyday. Sometimes he wondered why Silver hung out with him, but it wasn't like he was a bad guy, after his rants were over he was a pretty cool person.
"I'll text Clair. Can you give me her phone number?" She asked, he replied, thumbing through his contacts while trying to hold a conversation with Joey about how his Bearded Dragon was better than 'that stupid rat'.
He flashed the number at Kotone and she added it to her contacts. She then began to type a message:
"Hey, we're hanging at Silver's place Saturday to watch Black Persian. You wanna come?" She kept it simple, She could explain more if needed to her tomorrow.
Kotone's phone buzzed, shocking her, from what she had heard from Silver, Clair wasn't one to text back immediately.
"Uh, sure? Where is his house? And who's texting?" Kotone quirked a brow, she had expected Clair to know where Silver's house was, but maybe she had been mistaken.
"Oh yeah, 000 New Bark Town, its it's a huge house, you cant miss it. By the way this is Kotone." She replied, she could understand why Clair wanted to know who it was.
"So, this Saturday? Got it. Thanks for having me." She responded, and Kotone found it weird how easy it was to talk to Clair. She had expected her to be difficult but this was actually kind of nice.
"All right then. If you need more information or you just want to talk, I'm here." She replied, she didn't see why she hadn't talked to Clair sooner.

"Thank you so much. I'll talk to you later I guess." Kotone was happy that they'd get to talk more often, and it seemed that Clair was too. Too bad they didn't have any classes together.
"She said she'll be there." Kotone told Silver, waving to him and Joey as she turned to walk up to her house.
"K, see you later." He said sinply, continuing his arguement with the smaller boy.
Kotone began doing her homework, Mr. Elm wasn't a huge fan of homework, so its it's not like she had a lot to do. When that was over she turned on the tv, surfing through the channels.
"Getaway to the tropical islands of Alola this vacation!" The tv droned as she looked on, bored.
Her ferret chirped at her from the floor and invited itself up on the couch with her, "Hey Typhlosion, what's up?" She giggled at the squirmy fluff noodle as it crawled around her, letting her pet him.
Her phone buzzed again, which was weird, considering how late it was.
"Hey Kotone, I know its late, but I wanted to ask you a question. If you're still awake of course." Clair sent her a text. Odd.
"Yeah, what is it?" She sent back. It took a couple minutes, but eventually she got another response.
"First of all I want to thank you for inviting me to hang out. Second, I wanted to ask why you would choose someone like me?"
It was strange to hear Clair speak like this, she had never expected a woman she had seen as strong and loud to be so vulnerable with her. It was kind of touching.
She shook the thoughts from her head, typing back, "Silver said you're cool, plus, why wouldn't I want you to come?"
There was another pause in their conversation.
"I see. Its strange, we haven't even met, yet I feel like we've already connected somehow. Like we're already friends."
Kotone smiled at the text, feeling something tug at her a little, something small and insignificant, as if her mind was trying to tell her something.
"I feel the same way." She decided to respond before getting up and retreating to her bed.
The next morning she woke up, a little more excited to hurry the day onward than usual. She really wanted to see Black Persian, especially now with Clair as a new friend.
Saturday was the day after tomorrow, so the suspense was killing her. She talked with Silver on the way to school, and Joey caught up with them.
"Why didn't you tell me how cool Clair was?" Kotone turned to Silver, huffing at him.
"It never came up in conversation?" He shrugged, turning to Joey, bragging to him about how his lizard, Feraligatr, did something 'amazing' last night.
She decided to ignore them, opting to instead listen to some music as she walked. A new song by Lance and the Dragons just dropped and she was hooked.
She had texted Clair this morning with a simple "Good morning", but she had yet to reply.
She looked down at her phone as it scrolled to the next song, and as if on cue her phone buzzed.
"Good morning, sorry I woke up really late." The text read.
She smiled at it, with the side of Clair that she was seeing now, she could see her being one to wake up late.
"No problem, I'm sure the extra sleep was nice." She laughed a little.
"Yeah, but I want to hurry and get through the week so we can all hang out. I'm really excited, but also kind of nervous." She confessed.

"No need, I'm here for you!" Kotone typed back encouragingly, she wanted her new friend to feel welcome.
"Thanks, see you Saturday." They bid Kotone as she put her phone away.
She had arrived at school and she felt nothing but glee as she sat down in Mr. Elm's class.
"Good morning class, um, today we're going to be joining Mr. Oak's class in the animal room to observe some different species." Mr. Elm said, he was always a little awkward, but he was really nice, so almost everyone liked him.
Kotone leaned over to Silver who sat next to her in class, "Didn't you steal Feraligatr from that lab?" She giggled at the mention of an old rumor from when he had just moved to this school.
"Very funny, you know he gave it to me." Silver grumbled.
She laughed while telling Joey as they walked with the class to the lab.
Kotone's face twisted into a smile as she saw Clair, she had forgotten she was in this class.
"Clair! How's it going?" Kotone bound up to the girl, smiling.
"Umm, good I guess? Why, is something wrong?" The girl's hardened voice shocked Kotone, she didn't sound anything like she had on the phone.
"No, are you okay though?" She asked, a little concerned on why Clair seemed so different than she had expected her to be.
"Yeah." She said plainly, she was turning out to be a very straightforward, stoic, person, and as much as Kotone didn't want to admit it, she liked phone Clair better.
"I was just making sure you were still good with hanging out this Saturday." The brown haired girl commented, trying to change the mood.
"Saturday? What's going on Saturday? Are you sure you're okay?" She seemed a little awkward, after all they had never formally met, but Kotone was just starting to wonder if Clair was like this with everyone.
"You know, when I texted you?" She pulled out her phone when Clair's expression didnt change. She showed the girl her conversations, and the taller girl looked over them in suspicion.
"Where did you get my number? This isn't it, this is someone else." She stated.
"Wh-what do you mean?" The smaller girl chuckled nervously, shooting a glance at Silver who was across the room.
"Exactly what I said, you haven't been texting me." She cut off whatever Clair had said next.
Kotone's blood ran cold. The entire time, she had been texting a total stranger? Her thoughts stopped dead in their tracks as she realized this.
Silver had caught her glance and made his way to her.
"Who's phone number did you give me?" She whisper yelled at him while Mr. Elm tried to get the class to quiet down.
"Clair's! Who do you think?" He said back, writing down some notes.
"Then why did she say that this wasn't her number?!" She flashed her phone at Silver who took it from her, "I gave them your address!" She said in a panic.
"Chill, chill, I'll look through my contacts to find a number that matches." Silver said.
She had forgotten that the number would have to have been in his contacts, her heart rate settled as she realized she had just texted one of his acquaintances. She handed her phone to him and he flipped through his own.
"Oh," he sighed, "You've been talking to this kid." Silver flashed the caller ID at her.
"Hibiki? Who's that?" She didn't know the name, from Silver or anyone else really.
"Hes a new kid, I had to show him around school. I gave him my number in case he needed to ask anything, but I haven't really talked to him since." Silver shrugged and Kotone shot him a look.
"Well, hes coming to the hangout Saturday, I cant just take it back now. I'll tell Clair about it now I guess." She huffed, she was still hyped to see the movie, but the fact that Silver had given her a mini heart attack, and that she had been texting a random stranger for the past day was setting off her mood.
Later that day, after Mr. Elm's class had ended, Kotone got another text. This time she had changed the Caller ID to Hibiki,
"Hey, is there going to be popcorn? Should I bring something?" He asked.
She found it a little awkward now that she knew that this was a different person, who of which she had never seen, but she supposed that they were still nice, and as she scrolled back through the texts, she felt better.
"Silver has popcorn so you don't have to, but if you want to bring something you're welcome to." She replied.
"Well, is there something that you would like me to bring, Kotone? I cant thank you enough for inviting me. I honestly didn't know if I was going to fit in at this school, and Silver seemed so cold. Sorry for the long text, but thanks." She got a large paragraph from the mysterious boy, and her feelings of apprehension began to fade.
She had felt comfortable with him before she figured out who he was, why shouldn't she feel that way after?
"Well, I hate to impose, but I love Sinnoh brand poffins, they're great!" She sent, she could understand if he turned it down though.
"Gotcha! I'll be sure to bring them. Cant wait for Saturday."
"Me either." She sighed as she sent Hibiki back a text.
"Ms. Kotone can you please put your phone away?" Mr. Pryce asked her, he never confiscated phones, but he was intimidating enough that no one dared keep them out after he asked.
As she listened to him talk about math, her mind wandered off. She wondered what Hibiki was like, she had seen Clair at the other end, until now.
She might've seen him in the hallways, or after school but she had no way of knowing. She could ask Silver, but she didn't want to ruin the surprise Saturday.
The more she thought about his texts, the more Kotone was glad that she had gotten the wrong number. He was nice and she felt that he was a good person, despite not having known him well.
Although, she couldn't fight the still lingering apprehension in her, even Silver didn't really know the guy, and Silver knew everyone, whether he wanted to or not.
Now she wanted to know what he looked like, not that it mattered based on personality or anything, but she was curious.
Before she knew it the next day had flown by, and it was already Saturday. She had made small talk with Hibiki over the phone, but nothing of any big influence. A good morning here, hows your day going there, nothing too weird.
Kotone practically shook with excitement as she walked over to Silver's place. It was still half an hour until they were supposed to show up, but she couldn't wait any longer.
"Hi Kotone, how are you doing?" Silver's father Giovanni greeted her as he left out the front door. It was rare to see him home, and she could guess by the way he was dressed that he was leaving on another business trip. He wasn't a particularly bad person, but Silver never liked how he was always gone.
She made her way inside and sat down in Silver's living room. Joey was already here.
"What's up Joey? Wheres Silver?" She asked making herself comfortable on the couch.
"Nothing much, and Silver's making popcorn." He replied gesturing towards the kitchen.
Sure enough Kotone could here the crackle and pop of the popcorn, and soon her red haired friend made his way out of the kitchen with two large bowls of popcorn.
"You're here early." He stated, but without much behind the sentence. He was just pointing it out at this point, it wasn't unusual for her to show up early.
A knock at the door halted her next comment as her heart jumped to her throat. Joey stood up and answered the door, talking to whoever was outside for the moment before eventually inviting the person inside. Joey did always make things harder than they had to be.
Kotone saw blue hair flow around an elegant figure as they walked in, and immediately her heart calmed. She let out a sigh, it was only Clair.
She willed her blood to settle down, she shouldn't be getting this worked up over someone she hadn't even seen face to face. Sure they were nice, but it was foolish to even think of harboring feelings for someone this early on.
But she had never felt this way before.
Clair sat next to her in the couch, and Silver and Joey opted to sit on the floor.
"So I heard there was a mix up with the new student at our school." Clair leaned over and whispered, "I'm sure he is a person worthy of our our merit though." She said.
Kotone had found that Clair had a very formal and judging manner of speaking, like if you weren't worthy you couldn't speak to her, let alone hang out with her. Luckily Kotone happened to be among the winning group.
She laughed nervously at Clair's remark, she hoped he was a good guy. She couldn't imagine what it would be like if she had invited a creep over.
Silver put the movie in and started up the previews, it was a couple minutes after the time they were supposed to meet, and Kotone was both worried and relieved that Hibiki hadn't shown yet.
"Is he a no show?" Silver turned to Kotone who was biting her nail nervously.
"I don't know, I'll text him." She said, but as she pulled her phone put, out, there was a light knock, barely audible, at the door.
"I'll get it." Silver said standing up and heading for the door.
Kotone fixed her eyes elsewhere in the room, her heart rate accelerating. She tried to focus on the expensive furniture, the chandelier, anything but the door that was currently opening.
That's when she heard a nervous, "Hello, I'm here for the movie?" Resound from the door.
"Yeah man come on in." Silver invited them in returning to his spot on the floor next to Joey.
Kotone finally turned to look at the guest and her chest practically burst.
A boy about Silver's height with black hair walked in. He adorned a black and yellow cap and a red jacket, which would've been a weird color combination had it not been on him. He had soft eyes and an embarrassed smile playing on his cheeks. And it melted Kotone.
"You don't have to stand there, sit on the couch or something." Silver grunted in irritation like he often did and Clair shot him a smile, offering the seat in between them.
"Oh, uh, thank you." He bowed a little and sat down, his arm brushing Kotone's. Her hair stood on end as she couldn't take her eyes off of him.
"You must be Kotone, I'm really glad that I finally get to meet you." He smiled at her and she swore that one more thing would break her, "Oh, I got those things you wanted, that's why I was running a little late." He pulled a small box of Poffins out of a plastic bag he had brought with him.
"What? He brought you sweets?" Joey complained.
"Oh no, I brought a whole ton of extras for everybody. I wasn't sure how many people there would be, but I think I got enough." He passed one to Joey who gladly accepted.
He was perfect, inside and out, and he was starting to get to her more than she ever though anyone could. His smile and presence was claiming more of her mind than she wished to offer it, more of her feelings than she wanted.
The movie played and she barely paid attention to it, and her heart practically stopped when Hibiki leaned over to her and whispered, "I really like how they reference modern culture a lot, its it's pretty funny how they mention memes." He chuckled.
She saw his face turn red when he realized that he had gotten that close.
Both of them were silent for the rest of the movie, it was late now and Clair and Joey had already gotten up and gone home.
Kotone bid Silver farewell, and Hibiki followed close behind her. They began walking in the same direction home, she stopped in front of her house, breaking the awkward silence between them.
"See you later huh?" She said looking at her house dull-ly.
"I was hoping we could still text. I would ask for your number like anyone would normally, but it seems I already have it." He chuckled.
Her worries washed away with his smile as that raging feeling in her subsided to a calm, she could grow with him, mature this feeling with him. It would all be all right. In the end, and, their short time together had been what she feared all along.
But she didn't have to worry about that.
"Of course!" She smiled, "Let's hang out next weekend too." They both waved. She could feel that this would be something more. Though their time had been brief, it would be plentiful in the future.
