Hey guys, I want to say thank you to everyone who has requested. I've been feeling a bit stressed lately and writing these chapters for you guys really helps take some weight off.

The idea for this chapter came directly from the ship name, and I want to say sorry if it's a little angst lol.

Enjoy.

The sky is blue.

Apples are red. Grass is green. Leaves turn yellow and brown in the fall. It was common knowledge. Colors were everywhere.

But they always seemed to be just beyond Kyouhei's grasp.

The sky was varying grays, apples were gray, grass is gray, leaves turned from one gray to another in fall. Nothing stood out, nothing was beautiful. Nothing was different.

It wasn't like there wasn't a shred of hope though. When a person found their soul mate they started to see color when they fell in love, which was weird to Kyouhei. Why did he have to share it with someone? Something he had been deprived of his entire life, could only be given to him if he shared it.

Not only that, but Kyouhei was sixteen and he hadn't even met his soul mate. His friend had already met hers, and he felt that now he was just lagging behind.

Everyday had the same monotone and monochromatic feel to it, like nothing mattered. He woke up, went to school, came home, went to bed. He hadn't had many friends to start with, so when they had found their others, he was left in the dust.

Kyouhei sighed, letting his train of thought drift off. He passed by the same old park, and for a moment, he wondered what colors it might've been.

As he turned the corner onto his street, a woman ran up to him, "Have you seen a boy around your age anywhere around here?" she asked, panting for breath.

"No ma'am, is he lost?" Kyouhei asked.

"Yes, he's a little taller than you, and he has blue hair. Please, contact me if you find him." she handed him a slip of paper with her phone number on it. She ran off, continuing her search while Kyouhei stood there, looking on with the number in his hands.

Kyouhei continued home, keeping a little extra lookout in case he saw the woman's son, although, he wouldn't know if he did. People, especially parents, always assumed that people could already see color. Almost as if they forgot that children were born without that quality.

Kyouhei passed up his house, making for the end of the street, stepping over the curb next to the sign that said, "DEAD END".

There was a small cliff that Kyouhei visited every now and then, whenever he wanted to clear his mind. It was a small cliff-side view overlooking the sea, it was calm, quiet, serene, but that wasn't why Kyouhei visited.

Kyouhei let his eyes wander to the seam where the sky and the water met, the distinction almost near impossible to spot. The only things that separated the two bodies were the rippling waves, and the white clouds that dotted the sky. On calm, clear days, there was no distinction at all, and Kyouhei felt himself blend with that emptiness.

Kyouhei leaned his shoulder on the tree, looking out in front of him, losing himself in the calm waves.

"Hey, you just gonna stand there, or are you gonna say something?" a gruff, unfriendly voice sounded from somewhere nearby. Kyouhei jolted, looking towards the source of the sound, only to find a boy sitting against the tree, arms cross, looking directly at him.

Kyouhei jumped back a little in surprise, "Sorry, didn't see you there." he settled back in on the tree, his eyes fixed on the boy, but the boy's eyes looked distant.

"Me neither," he chuckled a little halfheartedly, "I heard you though."

"Oh." Kyouhei didn't know how to respond, so he did what he normally did when he came here, he sat down and stared into the ocean.

"So," he broke the comfortable silence on a whim of curiosity, "Do you come here a lot? I've never seen you here before." he asked, Kyouhei's gaze never leaving the rising and falling of the waves.

"This is actually the first time I've been here, I like the sounds of the ocean." the boy closed his eyes, and Kyouhei could see the peacefulness wash over his face, taking over the once irritated look.

"Me too." Kyouhei responded, smiling, "I like how the ocean and the sky come together, as if they were one thing. Takes my mind off of everyone constantly blabbing on about color." he said before catching himself. He didn't want to offend him, but he was easier to talk in front of than Kyouhei wanted him to be.

"I feel you there, my mom constantly rambles on about it. At this point I'm not even sure if I care." he says, his eyes lifeless looking on the water, but not quite concentrated on any part of it, it spooked Kyouhei a little.

"I always wonder why I should have to share it. If it's so great, why can't we just be born to see color?" Kyouhei felt safe in his ranting now, knowing that the boy felt similar feelings.

"My thoughts exactly." he grumbled, possibly thinking about Kyouhei's proposal.

Kyouhei didn't know what it was, but there was something he liked about this new guy, he felt a deep connection that he hadn't before, something that could fill the void within him.

"What's you name?" he asked, wondering why he hadn't earlier.

"Hyuu." the boy held out his hand for Kyouhei to shake.

"Kyouhei. Nice to meet you, Hyuu." he took the hand happily, standing up.

"Likewise." he stood up as well, towering over Kyouhei a little, and Kyouhei remembered the woman he had seen on his way home.

"Hey, is your hair blue?" Kyouhei asked, it was weird to ask another person who hadn't seen color, but hopefully his mother had told him if he was indeed the child she was looking for.

"I mean, I've never seen it, but my mom says it is, so I guess so." he shrugged.

"She's actually out looking for you, man. You should head home." he started to leave, Hyuu never moved from his spot.

"If you want, we can meet up here again tomorrow or something. Same time, I mean, if that's cool with you." he called, running home, he was a little late himself, his parents were probably worried.

"Yeah." Hyuu called back to him.

And so from then on, they met every day, rambling about school, color, anything, or just hanging out peacefully watching the waves. It became a part of the day that Kyouhei looked forward to, and before he knew it, they had been visiting every day for a month now.

"Hey, how's it going?" Kyouhei asked sitting down next to Hyuu again today, Hyuu always got there before him.

"I can't believe it's been a month dude, how crazy is th-" Kyouhei stopped in his tracks when a saw a single tear fall down Hyuu's cheek, the boy's eyes glued to the ocean, unmoving.

"Hey, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Kyouhei pulled himself into a kneeling position in front of Hyuu, "What happened?" he asked, concerned.

Hyuu jumped a little, wiping the tear and looking away, "Nothing man, whatever, I'm fine." he grumbled, but it wasn't like his usual ones, they sounded feigned.

"You can talk to me, Hyuu. You know that, right?" Kyouhei shifted a little, trying to catch Hyuu's gaze, but his eyes looked distant, like they always did.

"Kyouhei, will you... hold my hand for a moment." Hyuu settled back in his spot, and Kyouhei did as well for a moment. The shorter male laced his fingers into Hyuu's open hand, gripping it.

He could feel Hyuu trembling ever so slightly. What had gotten to the usually arrogant boy? It was hard seeing him like this, it was a possibility Kyouhei never considered, and now that he thought about it, he didn't know anything about Hyuu's personal life.

More tears began rolling down Hyuu's face, and Kyouhei's heart broke at the sound of quiet sniffles. He realized then and there that he would do anything for Hyuu, this boy had made him forget his strife, his worries, but here he was, hurting all along.

Kyouhei's vision went white, and he let out a gasp. As his eyes adjusted, his eyes practically burst. Strange things he had never seen before flew into his perception. Shades, hues, as he had heard them burst to life. The trees matched the grass in what he assumed was a pleasant green. The birds shone many different colors and the flowers were spectacular. The sea and the sky melded together beautifully.

And when Kyouhei's eyes landed on the boy next to him, his breath was taken away. The red of his jacket, the blue of his hair, and-

Kyouhei caught his eyes, looking deep into them for their color.

"Why haven't your eyes changed?" he quietly asked himself.

Hyuu's eyes held the same dull gray, distant as always, unchanging. It was alarming, he had always imagined that eyes were beautiful, his mother had spoken of eyes as if they had magical colors, but Hyuu's were different. Why?

"How does color look?" Hyuu asked, and for the first time, Kyouhei realized that even when Hyuu looked at him, it wasn't completely focused, as if he was looking through him.

Kyouhei gasped, and clenched his hold on Hyuu's hand.

"You're blind." he breathed, the conclusion more for himself that Hyuu.

Hyuu scoffed and nodded, "Sucks doesn't it. Surprised it took you this long to notice. That's why I'm out here. People learn that you can't see, will never be able to see, color, and they ditch you. No one wants a soul mate that they can't share their experiences with." he chuckled halfheartedly, fighting back tears.

"Sorry for dragging you into this, but look, you don't have to share." he stated, smiling. But it was a broken smile.

"I wanted to share it with you..." Kyouhei had tried to cut off the thought before it left, and Hyuu winced a little at the comment.

Kyouhei thought to himself. He wouldn't be able to share this experience. He had gloated and boasted about how he didn't want to share, how his experience was his, but now, things were different. If he could, he wanted to share everything, he wanted to share the world with Hyuu, and now he couldn't share this beauty.

But that didn't matter.

Kyouhei stood up, taking Hyuu with him, "I may not be able to share this with you, but there's so much more to the world than color. I thought the world was an empty void without it, but with you I forgot how monochrome the world was, I was focused on being happy. I focused on me, you, happiness. And that's what matters." he said, making sure Hyuu could hear the sincerely in his voice.

"Don't say things man, stop pushing yourself. You don't have to conform for me." Hyuu grunted.

"Don't say that, I'm not conforming! So what if I can see color, what does that mean if I can't love you? Color didn't make me love you! You did!" Kyouhei blurted, breath heaving after his outburst.

"Oh." for the first time, Hyuu was at a loss for words, large gray eyes wide with surprise.

Kyouhei hugged him, staring straight into his eyes, "I guess that means your my soul mate, huh?" Hyuu finally said, "So lame." he said jokingly and Kyouhei flicked his arm. They both laughed.

Kyouhei took in the deep gray, it reminded him of how Hyuu had been the only bright thing in his gray world, and for right now, he felt that they were similar to the sky and the sea, melding grays, forming one sensation to fill the void. Though this time, the void wouldn't come back.
