I've been thinking about using this song for a fic for a while. It's just catchy to me and screams ship, so here it is.

The song is "Moon Without the Stars" by Jerry Barnes Quiana. It is featured in the mobile game Deemo, which is one of my favorite games of all time.

Can't imagine life without having you here by my side, no matter the cost

Kotone had begun to look forward to her meetings with the brooding red haired boy. They were a regular schedule in her everyday life. If he didn't come to challenge her, she went out and found him herself. Sometimes they talked, but most days they battled, Silver getting closer and closer to topping her.

She was proud, but there was also another feeling, one she couldn't describe quite yet, but it grew everyday. She felt like she'd be able to face it soon, but that was a problem for another day, for now she'd just enjoy her time with him.

When you just can't hold on, and the weight is too strong, I'll be there to break your fall

Today Silver had found her, but he didn't come to battle like he usually did.

"Kotone?" Silver sat next to her by the pond in New Bark Town, a weird expression on his face, not one that she'd ever seen before.

"What is it?" she asked cheerfully.

"I've been thinking a lot lately" he said, trailing off, he was being uncharacteristically quiet and calm, and it was putting the brunette on edge.

"You can talk to me about it! I'm always here for you." she said leaning forward from where she sat to look him in his red eyes.

He smiled, "I know."

When you feel confused by the world and all its mysteries, I can only hope you'll remember all the simple things

"I've been thinking, about going on a journey." he said, a flurry of emotions crossing his features.

"Oh." Kotone replied, it was all she could get out at first. That comment had winded her, she wasn't expecting it, and for some reason he chest tightened painfully.

"But before I go, I have one other thing to tell you." he said, turning to her, "And it might seem selfish, but I'm probably not the nicest guy you know." he chuckled.

His face looked like he was reminiscing from what she could tell, and they seemed like good memories. Silver called himself a jerk, and Kotone could no doubt back up the fact that he used to be the worst. She wasn't exactly sure when that had changed, but it did.

"Kotone, I love you."

What's a heartbeat without heartache?

Her world came crashing in, emotions she never dreamed of coursed through as she tried to make sense of it all. Silver looked on for a moment before standing up.

"I'm going to Sinnoh to get stronger, I feel like it's something I need to do." he stated, a serious look in his eyes.

"But I- what do I... I can't" she stumbled over her words, unsure of how to respond to her rival.

"I figured you would need time to think. So when I come back, please give me an answer." he said with a fond smile before walking off.

This had to be a joke.

What's a hurricane without the rain?

The flood of emotions didn't stop, if anything they surged even more when she got home and laid in her bed. She thought about Silver and his confession, that was why he was being particularly soft this time, instead of his usually irritable self.

She decided that this new side of him was nice, his old side too. Silver had come far and was nowhere near the jerk he used to be, but he was still one to lose his temper, and the thought made Kotone giggle while she lied there.

She thought about how she was leaving, and about how she didn't know when he would come back.

And then it clicked for her.

What's the moon without the stars? That's how it feels when we're apart

"I love him." she whispered into her room, her face flushed red.

The thought of losing him stung. She felt complete when he was there, and now that he was gone, she had lost a part of herself too.

What if it was as easy as turning back the hands of time? I wouldn't change a thing.

She wondered if she had never met him, would her life be better? Would she be feeling this unbearable pain? He made her miserable when they first met, and she wasn't exactly sure when that feeling changed from hate to love.

Silver was right, he was selfish.

But if that selfishness meant that he loved her, she supposed it was okay.

The pain was worth it if he was here with her, but he wasn't.

And I just want to let you know, I'll never let you go. You'll always be a part of me.

She wasn't taking this sitting down, he was an absolute in her life amongst a world of change, and she wasn't letting that slip away.

Her heart jumped to her throat at the thought of having to answer him when she found him, but she decided that was the least of her worries, she loved him and she would tell him that.

She slipped on her trainer outfit and grabbed her Pokeballs.

Without saying anything Kotone left her house, calling out a Pidgeot. He couldn't be too far, if anything she'd arrive in Sinnoh just a couple hours after him.

Sinnoh was a region just to the north of Johto so it wouldn't take too long to get there.

So she set off to find him, flying as fast as Pidgeot could take her, she also knew that Pidgeot was faster than Crobat when it came to flying.

When you feel confused by the world and all its mysteries, I can only hope you'll remember all the simple things

She thought about when she had first met Silver, he had bumped into her and dropped his trainer ID, coincidentally right after he had made off with Professor Elm's Totodile.

She had set her mind to catching him after she had seen how he treated Pokemon, he kicked them, yelled at them, it disgusted her.

She had met him many times after that, different towns, at one point at a Team Rocket base. She had learned how broken Silver really was, and he goal changed. She was going to help him change.

But she hadn't known right then that he was already getting better, now that she thought about it, at that point he had already stopped abusing his Pokemon.

Then they had met to fight Clair and Lance together, and Kotone felt that was when their friendship really started. He came by to ask for battles often, we'll at first he demanded battles, but he began to ask at some point.

She remembered how on one day he didn't show up, she had scoured the region for him, only to find him deep in thought in Ilex Forest, which she had then learned was a usual spot for him.

Now it was a usual spot for them.

Like, what's a heartbeat without heartache?

She supposed that this hurt in her chest wasn't going to heal until she found him. It certainly wasn't helping that she was thinking about those times they had shared in the past, but she couldn't help it.

What's a hurricane without the rain?

She was getting close to Sinnoh, and by the time she looked down, they were above Twinleaf Town. She landed and called back her Pidgeot.

She ran up to one of the townsfolk standing around, "Hello sir, have you seen a boy around my age with red hair? He kinda looks like he hates the world if that helps any." she asked out of breath.

The older man chuckled, "As a matter of fact I did. He headed over to Lake Verity. You exit the town into route one and take a left, you can't miss it." he called out to her as she darted off.

She ran as fast as her legs would take her, heading straight out of the town.

What's the moon without the stars? That's how it feels when we're apart

She couldn't stand the thought of him not there, it was tearing at her. She would search as long as took if it meant she could stay by his side. For all she knew he was gone, already in the next town, but she wouldn't give up.

What's a heartbeat without heartache?

Her heart slammed in her chest as she ran through the grass and trees, dodging wild Pokemon left and right. As much as she loved battle, this was much more important to her.

What's a hurricane without the rain?

She burst into the Lakefront, her eyes scanning the entire area, heart racing. She hoped he was here, wished he was here, dreamed.

Her heart began to sink when she didn't spot the usual red head of hair. The painful sting growing stronger still, why hadn't she answered him when he had first confessed? She was an idiot.

What's the moon without the stars? That's how it feels when we're apart.

"Kotone?"

The brown eyed girl almost gave herself whiplash, she spun around searching for the owner of the voice she knew so well.

Her heart burst with happier emotions, just as passionate, but they felt so right. The red haired boy looked on with amazement as the both stood there, not saying anything.

She took the silence as an initiative to act. She ran forward and leapt into him.

So complete. So complete. You're all I'll ever need

He spun them around to deal with the excess momentum from her jumping onto him, a dazed look in his eyes.

"What the he'll are you doing here?" he asked, trying to sound annoyed, but in the end she could hear the relief in his voice. It only made those good feelings stronger.

You're here with me right now, right here in my heart now

While he held her, Kotone took his face in her hands and proceeded to capture his lips in her own. She felt complete now, her other half was here, and she was going to make sure that he didn't go anywhere.

At the shock of the kiss, Silver lost balance and toppled over, making sure neither of them got hurt in the process. She smiled down at him, and his irritated expression faded and he smiled back.

What's a heartbeat without heartache?

She knew that feeling might come back from time to time, and as much as it hurt, it was worth it to be with Silver. Her hotheaded idiot, she wouldn't call him that out loud though.

She chuckled at the thought and Silver sent her a confused look, "What?" he asked from underneath her.

"Nothing." she laughed and Silver pouted.

"Oh yeah, sure. You're probably making fun of me." he commented, that trademark look skepticism returning to his features.

Kotone just hummed in response, looking deep into his crimson eyes.

What's a hurricane without the rain?

She thought she could get used to this turmoil in her heart, especially if it meant she could look at Silver like this. She studied his features up close for the first time. She had always casually looked from afar, or stolen glances whenever she had the chance, but now he was here.

She studied the scarlet eyes that gazed back on her, the red eyebrows that relaxed as he looked on at her, the red locks of hair that ran over his face-she shifted them to the side a little-and the mouth that spoke with the voice she loved so much, slightly part from being winded when they fell down.

What's the moon without the stars? That's how it feels when we're apart

She leaned down and kissed him again, "Never again, okay? Never leave me."

Silver chuckled and returned a kiss, "I promise. We'll never be apart."
