I always saw Gold as the person to try an act suave, then fail really hard at it. So here's the result.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Crystal had to hold back a sigh as she looked on at the not so glorious display that played out before her.

Her boyfriend, Gold, had an arm against their dining room table, leaned back, and a rose in his mouth. His clothes were classy and a bit revealing, and in any other situation they may have had an effect on her, not that she'd admit that.

What got her attention though, was the obvious look of pain in his eyes, and the slow trickle of blood down his lips and his left hand.

But let's back up a bit.

All this nonsense had started on a day like any other.

...

"You want to grab ice cream on the way home?" Crystal commented, she was hungry and she knew that an ice cream cart had set up in the park they walked past on the way back to their apartment.

"Of course, whatever you want, babe. Ice cream sounds nice." Gold swung his arms behind his head, whistling a tune.

Like she had said, the cart was set up near the park entrance, small children crowded it and the young man running it handed out ice cream with a smile.

"Hi, I'm Bryce, what flavor would you like?" the man asked happily, Crystal could practically feel the positive vibes wafting off of him.

"Rocky Road for me." Gold said proudly.

"Vanilla for me." Crystal told the man.

"So boring, that's mainstream, you know?" Gold commented flashing her a smirk while he handed Bryce the money.

"Well there's a reason it's mainstream isn't there." she said coldly before turning her attention back to Bryce, "Thank you!" she said as he handed her the cone.

"No problem, I usually snowboard in the winter, so selling ice cream in the summer is quite fun, keeps me cold and I can see the kids smiles!" he beamed.

It really was weird to see someone that happy about a small ice cream cart, but whatever floats his boat.

"You know, this ice cream tastes amazing. Better than I thought considering what we paid for it." Crystal liked the ice cream, Gold had been unusually quiet, so she felt the need to break the ice a little, whatever ice that may have been.

She was shocked when he leaned over in front of her and stared her in the eye, "Not as amazing as you." he then bit a chunk off of her ice cream.

She saw the immediate regret flash across his face, and she tried to hold back a laugh. He had tried to make a suggestive comment, followed by a sexy look, but that all fell flat as he held his face in agony.

"What are you doing, idiot?" she asked, trying not to laugh too much, as not to damage his pride any further.

He was licking his teeth vigorously in an attempt to warm them up, "I'm fine, it was nothing." he grumbled, obviously embarrassed out of his mind.

"Okay then." Crystal said wrapping an arm around his, his mood perked up a little at the action.

But from then on out it kept happening.

He would go to do something and get hurt in the stupidest ways, and at first she supposed it was just Gold, but she was starting to get worried. She didn't like the idea that he was hurting himself as often as he was. Gold was a dolt, but this was getting out of hand.

One day he had tried to back her up against a desk in their college classroom, but had ungracefully slammed his foot into the leg of the desk, earning a pained yelp from the boy.

Another day he had tripped and fallen flat on his face in an attempt to come up behind her to surprise her.

And now, here she was watching as Gold whimpered, tears in his eyes, as he unceremoniously failed again.

She walked forward, sighing, before carefully taking the rose from Gold's mouth. He winced and Crystal realized that Gold hadn't removed the thorns from the rose, his lips were pricked and a little swollen, blood dripping from the larger cuts. Same for his hand which had a couple cuts here and there.

"Sit down, I'll be right back." Crystal sat Gold down in a dining room chair, he held his mouth and nodded, looking a little dejected.

The next couple of minutes were spent with Crystal using Toilet paper to cover the worst spots until they stopped bleeding, a couple band-aids placed on his fingers.

"Sorry, Babe." he mumbled, hissing when his lips moved.

"It's fine, but when it feels a little bit better, let's talk, okay?" she said, holding his cheeks. He nodded, avoiding her gaze. Something was eating him, she could tell, she just didn't know what would cause him to tear himself up like this.

Gold decided to lay down in bed, it was two I'm the afternoon, but he was exhausted. Crystal decided to join him, concerned. She pulled his head to her chest and ran her fingers through his hair, massaging his scalp. Gold sighed and closed his eyes, reveling in the feeling.

"I'm sorry." Gild said abruptly after they had been there a while.

"It's okay, tell me what's wrong. You can talk to me you know, I'm your girlfriend."

"I know."

There was a pause for a moment, Crystal's hands still moved through his hair.

"Do you ever regret dating me?" Gold asked, the question knocked the breath out of Crystal.

"Why would you say that?" she leaned back cupping his cheeks and looking him in the eyes. What had driven him to ask a question like that? Was he regretting dating her? Was something wrong with their relationship that she didn't see?

"It's just, I could sit here in your arms forever. It's so nice. But... Sometimes I wonder if you ever get bored of an oaf like me." he commented deciding to fiddle with her earrings rather than look her in the eyes.

"I thought maybe I could spice things up, you know? Try to make things more exciting, but it didn't really turn out to good, huh?" he laughed, but Crystal could see the glaze in his eyes and the tears forming at the brims.

"I-I just love you so much. So much it scares me, and I don't want you to leave me. Ever." he hugged her to him.

Crystal's heart melted, this man here laid bare all his insecurities to her. But he had insecurities that shouldn't even be in question, and she was going to have to fix that.

"Bored of you? Gold you're the most amazing person I know. I know you're an oaf, but that's just another part of what I like about you, it's almost endearing at times." she chuckled a little before continuing, "If you want to lay in my arms forever, I'll be happy to provide, because as much as you want to lay in my arms, I want to hold you there too, just as much. This isn't some cheap relationship where one person gets bored after a week, I love you with all my heart, so I'm not going anywhere, okay?"

Gold nodded, taking in the weight of her words, the tears started clearing up, and that trademark Gold glow returned to his features.

"Love you, Kris."

"Love you too, Gold." she said before interjecting, "Although, I do have to ask why you left the thorns on the rose, it looked like some were already taken off, but not all of them."

"Truth is that I was de-thorning them, but you opened the door before I was done and I panicked." he looked away sheepishly.

Crystal chuckled and planted a sweet kiss on his lips, earning a yelp from Gold, "As much as I would love to kiss you right now, unfortunately it doesn't seem like I'll be able to for a little while." he said, moving his lips in an attempt to quell the stinging pain.

Yeah, he was her oaf all right.
