When Red next woke, he was staring at a white ceiling. He put his hand to his head and groaned. The papery substance on his hand confused him, he looked down and saw that his hand had been wrapped up, a couple blood spots on the paper.

Images of what had happened rushed back to him. Being Hypnotized. The grunts evil sneers. Green's helpless body on the ground.

Red felt his stomach turn violently. He wanted to puke. What had happened was horrid, he was sure he never wanted to experience anything like that ever again. Let alone drag Green into something that violent.

Now he really wanted to throw up. It was all his fault. If he had just manned up and spoken to the grunts, Green wouldn't have had to go through all that pain.

Realization coursed through Red and he sat up. He was in a bed, presumably at the Pokémon Center. He jumped up out of bed, throwing the sheets off. Running into the hallway he looked at all the door signs until one read "Oak".

He opened the door slowly, and entered the room. It was fairly quiet. He looked to the bed. His breath hitched in his throat.

Green was laying in the bed, bandages adorning his torso and arms, one arm was in a sling, it was likely broken. He had several bandages on his face and he was holding an ice pack to one side. Red winced, that was where he had hit him.

Green looked up, several emotions flashed over his features when he looked at Red. Red walked forward and stopped beside Green, he tugged on the ice pack and Green lowered it, revealing a ugly, purple, bruise. Red ran his thumb over it, Green wincing at first but leaning into his touch.

"Its not as bad as it looks." the brown eyed male commented, but Red still took his hand off his face, in fear of hurting him more.

"How your hand? It looked pretty bad when they first wrapped it up." It honestly hurt, but Red didn't pay attention to the hurt, his friend was hurting much more than he was.

"It's fine. Don't worry about it." Red started, he was about to apologize when Green spoke up over him, "I'm really sorry, Red."

Green's eyes portrayed hurt and guilt. Guilt that Red didn't want to see there.

His blood boiled and anger flared to life in his eyes. Green was sorry? What in the hell had Green done that he needed to apologize for? If anything Red thought that he should be groveling at Green's feet, begging for forgiveness. But he was apologizing.

Without thinking, Red's hand flew up and connected with Green's good cheek. Not very hard, but enough to hurt at least a little.

"Don't you dare say you're sorry!" Red spat at him through his teeth, Green just confused and hurt.

Red stormed out and found himself in Vermillion city, they must've flown to the port town. He knew he shouldn't have done that, now he was just causing Green more pain, but at least Green might hate him now. Red didn't want to hurt him anymore, so it was for the best if Green were to hate him.

Red felt tears welling up and he bit them back. Pulling out Charizard, he commanded it to take him to Mt. Silver. He climbed atop it's back and stared out over the city, this was the last time he'd face the world.

Goodbye towns. Goodbye gyms. Goodbye memories.

"Goodbye Green." Red whispered before being whisked away to the lonely mountain.

He entered the cave, all his things exactly where he had left them. Sleeping bag tossed in the back, food storage, remnants of a fire. Somehow it all seemed like it had gotten smaller since the last time he was here.

Sighing, Red let his Pokemon out, before taking a seat at the enterance, watching the bitterly cold swirls of air coat his mountain peak.

He bit his lip as Flashbacks of his league victory stung his memory, it was anything but happy. All those wins, for what? A ruined friendship? If anything Red wished he had lost. So much strife could've been avoided.

He thought even further back, Silph Co. was being taken over by Team Rocket, Red had stolen a victory there too, leaving the brown haired male to eat his dust.

Then when they had first gotten their Pokemon, that might be been the most bitter pill to swallow. The look of distraught still loomed in Red's memory, haunting him.

He shook his head, memories like that only hurt more, he needed to stop thinking about the past. His eyes focused on the desolate landscape. This was all there was in his future. The bitter air was the only thing that would ever welcome him.

Weeks passed, Red hardly ever left the cave entrance, except for food and sleep. His Pokemon worried about their trainer, to see him in such a saddened state, it was much more than his usual brooding.

His PokeGear had gone off numerous times over the week, after the third time, Red just turned it off. It was probably Looker asking for data, he didn't need to answer.

Isolation is all you have left. He kept telling himself this. He didn't need anyone. Green hated him now, that was the truth. How could he not after everything Red had done to him? He didn't need Green.

He tried to will his own heart to hate the gym leader as well, but every time any malice showed in his heart, it was overridden by the beautiful smile the boy had shown Red. The caring gaze. The soft hands. All of him.

Red wondered what his life would be like if he had lost. It was a topic he thought about often. Maybe he and Green could've actually been more than friends, though he doubted it.

He heard a beating rhythm. It was soft, barely noticeable, so he put it off. His Pikachu's ears perked up, it began to smile and run in circles, Red didn't know what was wrong with him right now. He reached out and pet Pikachu, before continuing to stare at the void of white.

The beats grew louder, now he could tell they weren't very far off. He saw a black silhouette in the distance. A bird this far up in the mountain? He stood up, squinting at the shadowy figure. It's wings suddenly folded as it landed, and another shadowy figure leapt off its back.

Before Red had any time to think, someone had raced forward into his cave and pulled Red into an embrace. Red felt himself melt into the hug, then his eyes shot open and he pushed the figure back.

Brown eyes stared into his own, his cheeks flushed from exposure to the cold mountain air, and cloudy puffs of air escaped his mouth as his chest heaved from exertion. Green stood before him.

Red thought it was just a dream, until he spoke, "Red! I'm so glad I found you!" his eyes shone with relief and concern. Red was taken aback.

"What are you doing here?" he croaked, his voice was hoarse, it hadn't been used for a week.

"What do you mean 'What am I doing here' I was so worried!" he grabbed Red's hands and the ruby-eyed male almost yelped in surprise, the warm, gloved hands a stark contrast from the frigid mountain air.

"You left without a goodbye, I was scared that you hated me for what happened. I didn't mean to force you into a situation that you didn't feel comfortable in. I know you told me not to say it, and I'm not sure why, but I'm so sorry Red! I don't want to lose you, this past week had me terrified. When Looker said he couldn't contact you I just couldn't take it, I had to come here." Green explained.

Why? Why didn't Green hate him? Hating him would've been so much easier if the brunette had shown up and told him off. But here he was, concerned for Red yet again.

"Why don't you hate me?" Red whispered, his eyes landing on Green's arm that was in a sling. "What? What are you saying?" Green chuckled nervously, "Why would I hate you?"

Red's gut clenched, "You know I have to live with the fact every day, that I'm the reason things keep going wrong for you? I know that it's my fault that the professor almost didn't choose his own grandson for the journey! I know it's my fault that all of your effort at Silph Co. didn't mean anything when I beat Geovanni! I know it's my fault that the professor congratulated me instead of you for the victory win! It's my fault that you were beat within an inch of your life." Red sank to his knees, his tears flowing freely now.

"Why after all that? You hated me during our journey. Why can't you hate me now? Why do you have to come back and make me fall in love with you again?" Red sobbed.

Green's breath hitched, Red was sure he would say something along the lines of either 'That was the plan all along' or 'I can't believe you love me'. He wouldn't be surprised if that was the final push to make Green hate him. Red had loved him since they were little, and his love had never come to mean anything.

When Red looked up Green had a hand over his mouth, tears running down his cheeks. When they made eye contact, Green knelt down and threw his arm around Red.

"You dont think I live with the fact that I made you feel this way? I loved you too, when we were young. Gramps announced his best Pokémon to you, and I just got jealous, I let it take me over on my journey. I said mean things, made you feel terrible things. After your league victory I hated you. But everyday went by, I realized that hate was just me trying to hide the truth," his voice cracked, his body shaking as he tried to continue, "I still loved you, I had pushed you away and acted like scum, but I still loved you. I realized that you would never love me after what I had done to you, you were just going about your journey just like I was, I didn't need to be an awful person just because you happened to be better than me. I'm sorry Red! So, so sorry." Green ended.

"Don't say sorry!" Red put his arms around the boy, "I'm just as guilty. I'm sorry Green, for everthing." Red hugged him tightly, careful not to hurt his injured arm.

Green leaned back, looking into Red's eyes, "I love you Red." he declared. He brought his hand up and wiped away the tears that had fallen from Red's eyes, then wiped his own off with his sleeve, "Sorry you had to see me look so pathetic." Green chuckled nervously.

Was it really okay for Red to love Green? The overwhelming feelings he had all this time, is it really okay for Red to let them show? His heart held an overflowing feeling as the other boy gazed back at him.

A pull unlike any he had ever know washed over him, he suddenly found himself leaning forward, his mind too far gone to go against it.

His eyes closed slowly and he felt warmth press itself against his lips. This feeling was unlike any he had ever felt. His emotions flew outward and his hands reached up to cup Green's face, he felt Green smile under his palms.

When they leaned back, Red smiled at Green, it was probably the biggest grin he had ever pulled off. Green blushed and hid his face, coughing as he tried to mask his embarrassment.

Though his ears blew scarlet when Red whispered to him, "I love you too."
