《What's Really Hood》FORTY-SEVEN

Dear Chris,

I know it may seem weird that I just walked up to you and randomly handed you a letter, considering we never really had a conversation before. I know you and my best friend have something deep between you two, and I want whats best for her. I won't be around since I have to go back home soon but I think it's best if you know this. I'd hate to have you blindsided and clueless when shit hits the roof.

Trinity's mother is no longer in her life because she's bipolar. This disorder causes her mother to be at the very highest and then the lowest of low in a matter of seconds. She often enters Trinity's life and then leaves as fast as she comes. I don't remember when was the last time Trinity has spoken to her mother, but I believe it was a little before Trin moved to New York.

Her mother took all the money her and her father had and left them dry. This has always been a thing her mother does, but it was never this serious to where her father wanted to move so far from California until now.

There's a great chance that Trinity might be bipolar too. I can't tell you the signs of this disorder besides the ones I already explained that her mother has. I don't know when her bipolar will trigger, I don't know what may trigger it, I don't know anything.

Chris, you have to make it your job to make sure Trinity's okay. Make sure she isn't in any trouble. Reach out to her father, he should know what to do. Take care of my best friend.

Thank you,

Jasmine.

Trinity's father quickly took his eyes off the road to glance at his daughter. She looked worn out and exhausted. The look in her eyes are very familiar, but he couldn't put his thumb on it.

"I'm worried about you, baby." He said slowing down at a stop sign.

Biggie Smalls' Gimme the Loot played lowly on the radio. Tristian nodded his head to the beat and tapped the steering wheel simultaneously.

He sighed as Trinity ignored his presence. She didn't feel like being bothered, he was making a big fuss out of nothing. He had nothing to worry about, she's fine.

"So why did I have to sign you out of school, and what happened to your hand? Did you get into a fight? Your clothes all stretched out and shit, you better have won."

She ran her hands through her hair with her good hand, sighing. Her hand is badly bruised from punching that kid in the face.

Looking out the window, the afternoon sky looked cloudy and gloomy.

After a few moments later she responded, "I'm fine."

"Okay baby girl," He nodded giving her a weak smile. "You hungry? Want some Chinese food?"

Trinity nodded, feeling a little better about getting something to eat. Her father made a detour and headed to the only Chinese spot they both eat at. It wasn't that far from their home and the food is great, despite the "B" rating the restaurant has.

He looked at her giving her a weak smile, "There's no parking, so I'm gonna double park and you get the food okay?"

She reluctantly nodded her head, watching him get his wallet from his jean pocket. He handed her twenty dollars and unlocked the door so she can get out.

"You know what I want, the regular." He added as she exited the car.

Trinity nodded and closed the door, crossing the street to the Chinese spot. It was empty except for the two people that sat at the small table in the corner. She walked up to the counter grabbing a menu, even though she already knows what to order.

She leaned on the counter reading through the menu waiting for the lady to be done taking an order over the phone.

"Hi." The lady said as she hanged up the phone.

"Hi, can I get an order of honey barbecue wings with pork fried rice and another order of chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice."

The Chinese lady nodded and told the cook her order. Trinity moved to the side so the person behind her can order their food next.

"Trinity? Is that you?"

Trinity froze hearing the familiar voice which she hasn't heard in a little while. She hesitantly turned around facing Khalil and his cousin, the one who had the New Years Eve party in his apartment.

"Khalil," She said softly

Khalil's eyes lit up once she said his name. He walked up to her with a huge grin on his face and his arms spread out wide, engulfing her in a big, warm hug. She almost forgot about him.

"How are you?" He asked. "It feels like it's been a minute since we last talked."

"I'm fine." She simply responded.

Trinity wasn't really in the talking mood, but she didn't want to be rude. They haven't spoken since that day in Burger King when she decided that they should just remain as friends. It's sad their friendship never went anywhere though, Khalil is a pretty chill guy.

Khalil's cousin remained seated but smiled once he made eye contact with Trinity. She wondered if he ever thought about Jasmine's whereabouts since they did talk for a little while.

"I know you've been going through a lot, you have my number girl, don't be afraid to use it. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here."

"Honey barbecue wings and chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice." The Chinese lady called out Trinity's order and began to bag her food.

Trinity nodded, walking over to the counter to pay for her food.

"I'll text you." She said after a few minutes with her food in her hand.

"Cool, I'll see you around ma, keep your head up."

Trinity gave Khalil and his cousin one last glance as she continued heading towards the door. A taller figure bumped into her as she exited out of the Chinese restaurant.

"Damn, my bad." The person said.

Then and there Trinity wanted to die. She wishes she had the ability to cloak herself and turn invisible. He's the last person she wanted to see right now, especially because of how weird they stopped talking to each other. After seeing him on a date with Tyra, she felt like there was no longer a reason to be stuck on him, and besides, Trinity moved on to Chris so Dominic never really crossed her mind until now.

She looked Dominic right into his eyes as Dominic looked down at her small frame with pity.

"Trini—"

She pushed passed him and jogged towards he father's car, fighting the tears from spilling. Dominic hasn't been in her life for that long, but before Chris, she did picture her and Dominic together. He treated her like she was the only girl in the world, and then he turned around started messing with Tyra. Yeah, she has no right to be mad at him since she was messing around with Chris, but she liked the both of them.

"You okay baby girl?" Her father asked noticing annoyance was etched on her face.

Trinity nodded getting in the passenger seat, holding the food in her lap and avoiding any eye contact.

"You can try to get her out of bed, I've been trying all morning. If I don't leave the house right now, I'll be late to work, so lock the door behind you."

"No problem, have a good day at work sir," Michael said waving at Tristian as he rushed to get his belongings.

"You too son, and don't be late for school."

"No promises," Michael mumbled under his breath as Tristian left the house.

Because Trinity's father picked her up from school yesterday, her car was left there so they all planned to take the bus to school together.

Before heading upstairs, Michael made a beeline to the kitchen to raid their fridge and pantry. Settling on fruit snacks, a Caprisun, and white cheddar Cheez-Its, he made his way up the stairs.

Michael knocked on her bedroom door before entering, "Trinity?"

He opened the door wide and saw a big lump on the bed. Trinity was wide awake but had her back turned to him with the covers over her head. She stared at the wall ignoring Michael's presence.

"Trinity, let's go or we're gonna be late. Not that I care but I'm not tryna have your father fuck me up." He mumbled stepping more into her room and looking around.

He sighed, taking his bookbag off of his back taking a seat at her computer desk. He watched her lying lifeless under the covers.

"I'm not playing with yo—"

"Leave me the fuck alone!" She yelled covering her head with a pillow.

She didn't mean to raise her voice at Michael, she just didn't want to be bothered at the moment. Her father was unsuccessful in getting her out of bed so Michael definitely couldn't get her out either.

"You're so lucky Chris' ass is cripple right now, I'd have him drag your ass out of this bed." He got up from the computer chair with his phone in his hands.

With a few taps on the screen, he called China and began pacing around her room.

"Babe, I'm going to need a little backup before I wring this little girl's neck."

China sighed shaking her head, "Michael, remember what Chris said. She's probably going through something right now. We can't force her to do anything, she has to do it all on her own. Be gentle with her."

"Is she okay?" Chris asked watching China intently.

The both of them waited for Trinity at China's house so they all can go to school together, but it sounds like that won't be happening.

"She won't get out of bed, even her father couldn't get her out of bed," Michael added.

"We're going to have to talk to her father about this," China mumbled running her hands through her hair. "Listen, we don't have much time and I can't afford to be late again. Come back to my house and we'll just go, we can check on her after school."

Micheal sighed in defeat, "Okay babe, I'm on my way."

He hung up the phone, slipping it in his pocket.

"Trinity, I done lost Kae, shit, Jasmine too even though she annoyed the hell out of me." He chuckled picking his bag from off of the floor, "But all seriousness I can't lose you to no fucking bipolar disorder man. I can't." He gave Trinity one last look and exited out of her room, closing the door behind him.

"Mommy? Mommy, wake up we're going to be late for my ballet recital!" Trinity hopped on her parent's bed pulling the sheets away from her mother's body.

Her mother grunted pushing Trinity away, snatching the sheets back.

"Mommy, c'mon daddy's in the car waiting for you." She pouted fixing her neat donut bun that sat perfectly on top of her head.

"Trinity, what's taking so long? I got the car running!" Tristian yelled from the bottom of the grand staircase.

Trinity jumped out of the bed walking out of her parent's room and made her way down the grand staircase. "Mommy won't get out of bed."

Once she met her father at the bottom of the staircase in the foyer, she smoothed out her leotard looking up at her father with tears brimming her eyes.

Tristian sighed wiping his daughter's tears before they fell, he hated seeing his baby girl cry.

"Why does she always do this to me, daddy?" She sniffled shifting her weight from her right leg to her left.

"Mommy's sick okay stink? She won't be able to make it to your recital."

"But she's never been to any of my recitals," Trinity argued back rubbing her eyes.

"I know stink, when mommy get's better she won't miss another one. I promise."

Making that promise to his young daughter broke his heart, knowing her mother probably won't ever get better. She refuses to see someone about her disorder, that decision is not only affecting his wife's health, but it's affecting his daughter's life too.

"C'mon baby girl let's go before you're late. We can get Chinese food on the way there." He put his hand out waiting for his daughter to grab it.

After a couple moments, Trinity gave in and took her father hands.

The lunchroom is decorated with red and pink hearts for the upcoming holiday, along with historical black figures for the month of February. The lunchroom is loud with students chatting, laughing, catching up on late homework, and playing music out loud.

China is scribbling in her notebook, Michael is writing lyrics down, and Chris sat quietly at the lunch table with his head in his hands.

His life has changed so drastically in such little time, he hasn't gotten the chance to process it all. This lifestyle isn't what he wants anymore. He's been counting the days to graduation so he can leave New York and never look back. They all have four months to go.

China sighed banging her fist the table catching Michael and Chris' attention, "I'm really worried about her, I think I'm gonna leave school and check on her."

China began gathering her things, throwing her pen and notebook in her bag. Despite the falling out her and Trinity are having, she still finds herself worrying about her friend.

"There's no reason for that," Chris said staring off in the direction where Michael and China had their back turned to.

"What, why?" China asked confused turning around in her seat to look at what Chris is looking at.

Michael eyes widened as he turned around also, "What is she doing here?"
