《What's Really Hood》THIRTY-TWO

I took the leather jacket, that was hanging on my room door, off of the hanger and laid it on my bed, along with the shirt and jeans I'm going to wear. I got my knee high boots from out of the closet and set them at the foot of the bed.

"Trinity, you're going to look good tonight," I said out loud in triumph with my hands on my hips

"Bitch, stop talking to yourself," Jasmine said walking out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body

"Shut up, with your round ass head. I'm tired of you."

She gasped and my eyes went wide "Trinity!" She yelled

"I'm sorry!" I sighed running my hands through my hair "I just haven't been in the mood man! I'm annoyed..."

"Ooh! You cursed." She said laughing hysterically

She was laughing so hard and began stomping her feet and clapping her hands, causing her towel to slip off and pool around her ankles. She was too weak to even care.

"Round ass head." She managed to repeat "Where did you even get that from?" She started wheezing "Oh my god, I can't breathe!" She yelled out hunched over "My stomach hurts, help me!"

I rolled my eyes laying on my bed and taking my phone off of the charger. I instantly grew annoyed seeing his contact name on my home screen.

I unlocked my phone and went to messages, he texted me a few times, right after we left the mall yesterday and an hour ago. He and I don't really text, last time we texted was over a week ago when I lost my contacts and everything when I got a new phone. I don't even recall what the conversation was about.

I grew annoyed and changed his contact name. I honestly put in so much time and effort into Chris and Dominic for nothing. Nothing at all, and I got nothing in return. It pisses me off at how much time I've invested in them both when I could've been doing other things like focusing on school, bonding with my father, spending more time with Jasmi—scratch that, I spend way more than enough time with her.

"What time is it?" Jasmine asked out of breath trying hard to contain her obnoxious laughter

"Six forty-five."

Like clockwork, my phone pinged and the notification bar came down. I clicked on it before it could disappear as it took me back to messages.

I kissed my teeth "He's lucky I still have his number saved."

I locked my phone putting it back on the charger getting up to get ready for my shower "Chris again?"Jasmine asked watching my every move

"Yeah, he's confused as to why I'm not texting him back," I responded draping my towel over my shoulder

"I wonder who that random ass bitch was. She must not know of us if she's that brave to just stare like she got no damn home training. Sewer rat."

"Where is your filter?" I shook my head walking past her into the bathroom

"The same place where she left her edges." She responded

"I'm done with you."

"We're having a pre-turnup before we head out. Are you coming over?" She looked at me and started smiling hard "Chris gon' be here in a few minutes," She added wiggling her perfectly arched eyebrows

I tried looking past her to see who I can pinpoint in the background, but her head is just too big and she had the camera angled so all I see is her. By the amount of noise being made in the background, I can tell there were more people over her house than the usual. For some reason, Facetime is louder than regular phone call causing her to echo throughout the quiet house.

"As much as I would China, no thank you," I said shaking my head

I dropped my boots by the recliner in the living room and sat, watching some television to kill as much time as possible. I was fully dressed but Jasmine was still doing her hair in the bathroom upstairs. I looked at the time on the cable box, it read eight thirty-two in bold neon green numbers.

"Um, why not? I've been watching yall trinity, I'm not dumb. I know yall went somewhere when yall left my house like three nights ago. Michael and I just kept quiet."

I gasped "Yall not low." She said chuckling

"It's a long story," I said when it really wasn't

It's pretty simple, Chris lead me on when he had a whole other female "I just saw something I didn't like and don't want to see Chris at the moment."

"Girl, it's a long ass commute from Queens to Manhattan. You can put me on when we pick you up from your house. We have to go up your way anyways to catch the bus."

"Okay." I agreed

"By the way, it's going to be kind of hard to avoid Chris if we're all going the same place. I'll just let Micheal know and let him do whatever to make it less awkward, okay?"

I nodded

"Make sure you're outside in twenty minutes. I'll text you."

"Bye," I said

"In a few." She said hanging up

I tucked my phone in my black Chanel fanny pack, also making sure I had my ID, keys, cash, charger, mase spray and my debit card in there also.

"Jasmine, you got ten minutes!" I yelled hoping she heard me

She actually had twenty minutes but I lied so she can hurry up "I'm almost done!" She yelled back

I went back upstairs into my father's room, who's door was wide open, seeing as he as watching channel one news reporting the event that's going on in Times Square currently.

"Hey, daddy."

"You really want to go there tonight?" He asked keeping his eyes glued to the television "I know there's gonna be hella train traffic and weirdos tonight."

There was a bunch of white people bundled up with scarfs, gloves, and hats rocking New Year's accessories. As the camera pans left and right everyone cheered and yelled waving to the camera.

"That's that white people shit, you don't see not one black person in that crowd 'cause we simply don't like the cold."

I rolled my eyes "Daddy please."

Jasmine then walked into the room and stood next to me causing my father to now give us his undivided attention "I'm ready."

"Where your jacket at?" He asked looking at Jasmine but the question was for the both of us

My leather jacket wasn't going to keep me warm whatsoever, but I knew that. It's so I can look cute, and I know the same goes for Jasmine too. Jasmine and I are gonna freeze tonight, no doubt about it.

"This is my jacket pops." Jasmine responded pulling at the hem of her bomber

"Oh hell no, yall go in the hallway closet and go put on one of my jackets."

I groaned "Okay daddy, We'll see you in a few." I said walking out of his room pulling Jasmine along with me

"Be safe! Better not be kissing no boys when the ball drop!" He yelled after me

I rolled my eyes shaking my head going down the stairs as Jasmine began laughing obnoxiously loud beside me.

"You too Jasmine, your ass is not slick!" He yelled after her also

I looked ahead watching the group of, I don't know, ten people in front of me walking in a pack. There were a few people I didn't know but I wasn't completely alone. Michael and Chris are walking behind China and me at the very back of the group, and Kae and Jasmine are in front of us talking about the fight for the umpteenth time. Fortunate for me, Dominic and his little rat, Tyra, are already at the get-together. So is Chris' little fling, who China barely even knew about. She told me everything she knew after I told her about the encounter in Forever21 yesterday.

Speaking of Chris, he hasn't said a word to me since China and the group picked Jasmine and I up from our house to walk to the bus stop. His eyes told me he wanted to do the total opposite, though.

He and Michael stood side by side the whole short walk to the bus stop talking in hushed tones. They kept their distance and I appreciate that.

Maybe coming out tonight wasn't a good idea, two boys, their lab rats, and I together in one room? That just doesn't sound right and I'm not up for the drama that may come with it. I'm a little overwhelmed.

"Loosen up sis." China said nudging me "Here, take this. I saved it for you"

"Thanks." I said taking the blunt from out of her hands staring at it "I didn't know you smoke."

"Only on special occasions like this one." She said handing me a black lighter that had 'Last Kings' printed on it along with a pharaoh logo in gold

The last time I smoke was with Chris, that was the first and only time I spent the night at China's house.

He didn't look at me but I'm pretty sure he was aware who just randomly sat next to him. He took the blunt from in between his lips and exhaled an awful lot of smoke. He pushed the blunt towards me and I just stared at it, watching it burn, contemplating.

"I haven't seen that ninja turtle comforter in a while." He mumbled looking me over

I took the blunt from him and brought it up to my lips. There was a time in my life during my sophomore year in high school where I smoked every other day. It brought me back. I was carefree and relaxed. Nothing bothered me. Weed is exactly what I needed. I took a long hit and exhaled seconds later.

Chris just looked at me amused.

"Damn, you really can't judge a book by its cover huh?" He took the blunt back as I passed it to him after my second pull

"It's not good to judge," I replied wrapping the comforter more around my legs since it was too small to cover my whole body

I sparked the lighter and lit the blunt, taking a long hit as the group of us waited for the bus to come so we can take the train to Times Square.
