and bruises with witch hazel and oil

using care and a cutthroat she shaved
feathers
from his wings and stole his grace
of flight
she showed him warmth in sharing
a body
he came to love her with whispers
promises
nights of songs lamenting all lost
epochs
she slept and dreamt of birthing
giants
