Just like a fountain of life

crying out its blessings

for the starving to feed on,

we buried unwavering

determination to live

the stories that we share

despite the juxtaposition

of the directions that we trailed,

of the intentions that we held;

we exposed ourselves

hoping to be loved.

And so we rejoiced

inside a fairytale;

masked offsprings were born

happy endings were laid out;

eternity was in place for us

— we were misled.

Little did we know that

this blatant exposure

would soon become

a lightning thief

that stole all the fireworks

dancing in our skies.

Slowly, but surely,

our cocaine hearts

took one step closer

to the brink of destruction.
