Narrator's POV
Dark.
Cold.
Silent.
Lost.
Those things surrounded Peter. That's all he could feel. He was lost, scared. He floated in this dark empty space. It was cold and so empty. Nothing but fear filled his head. He couldn't move. His arms and legs felt so heavy. He opened his mouth to form words and speak, but no sound came out. He was voiceless. Tears filled his eyes. He couldn't do anything, he was so defenseless. He felt weak and limp and numb. He didn't want to let this overwhelming feeling tear him down, but he was so tempted to give up. He was so tempted to let tears run down his face and accept this darkness he had fallen into. Sweet defeat and release were within grasp. He felt pain, sorrow, hurt. His heart ached. He wanted to scream, he wanted to let everything out. He wanted to give into this dark void that surrounded him for ever.
He was crying now, tears leaving his eyes and floating out in front of him. He screamed, no sound coming out. Yelling for help, for anyone. He was panicking. His body trembled, he was so scared. He kept yelling and yelling for help. He tried to move, but he wasn't able to.
He eventually let his head fall and gave into this empty space. He sobbed quietly, letting tears run down his face. His quiet sobs went unheard. He mouthed the words "I'm sorry" many many times.
A ringing settled in his ears. It grew louder and louder. He kept sobbing only letting the ringing dominate him. There was a small white light in this empty darkness. He didn't even bother to look up, he felt so defeated. He had lost all hope.

There was a gentle knock on a door. Hurried footsteps came to the door. It came open.
"Tony..." Wade stood at the doorway in his suit. His head hung low, and his tone was sad. He had Peter is his arms. His body was limp and cold. "I'm so sorry." Peter's suit was torn, scratches and cuts covered his body. He was covered in blood.
"Stephen!" Tony yelled. Quick footsteps hurried to the door. Stephen soon appeared next to Tony. He felt Peter's forehead, then moved onto his wrist and applied pressure. His eyes widen.
"We need to get him to a hospital. NOW." Stephen said.

Wade's head perked up. "What?" Wade asked. "But I took his pulse, and there wasn't any." Wade said.
Stephen opened a portal to a hospital. "Help! I need medical assistance now!" He ran over to a nurse and grabbed her by the shoulders. "I need a doctor. Please." The nurse was frightened. "Someone! Christine!" He yelped.
"Stephen?" She turned the corner, catching Stephen. Tony stood by Wade's side with Peter in his arms. "Oh my god..."
"Please Christine. It's an emergency. I need medical assistance. My son is dying." He said, he was panicking. His adrenaline shot through the roof. His heart raced. His face was pale.
"Calm down. Stephen calm yourself." She said, taking him by the arms. "Someone get that boy a gurney!" People hurried over to Wade, examining Peter. They checked his eyes.
"His pupils are dilated!" A nurse said.
A gurney quickly made its way to Peter. Wade placed him down on it, and Peter was taken away.
"Let me go with him." Tony said, following the doctors.
"Sir, I'm sorry. We can't have you come in the operating room." A doctor held Tony back.
"He's my son. He's my son. Let me go with him!" Tony said, trying to push the past the doctors.
"Sir we can't have you contaminating the area. Sir. Sir!" The doctor struggled to keep Tony back.
Christine looked back at the scene as he held Stephen, who was still a bit in shock. "Sir you can't go in there." She said.
Stephen turned back to Tony, he made some motions with his trembling hands. Tony froze.
"Stephen stop! I want to be with him! Stephen!" Tony yelled. Tears of frustration began to form in his eyes. "Let me go! Stephen! Let! Me! Go!" He struggled. Stephen approached him and held him close, he was still trembling; but managed to hold back Tony.
"It's okay Tony. Shh, it's okay." Stephen said, placing Tony's head in his chest. Tears threatened to pour down his eyes.
"Let me see him!" Tony struggled in Stephen's arms, trying to pull away. Tears were rolling down his cheeks. "Let me be with my son..." He sobbed. "Let me see my baby boy." Tony broke down in Stephen's arms.
"He'll be okay. It's all going to be okay." Stephen reassured his husband. "I promise."

Christine watched the two, she felt pain for her friend.
Wade watched too, standing close to the two embracing men. He was sad too. He had sworn to protect his boyfriend, but he wasn't there when he needed him the most.
Stephen and Tony walked over to him. He was scared. He didn't know how they'd react. Would they be mad? Would they go ballistic on him?
"I-I wanted to keep him safe! I-I did. I didn't k-know what was g-going in. Carn-" He gasped for air. He was panicking. "-age was hurting him. P-Peter w-was- I-I-I-"
"Why don't you tell us what happened?" Stephen asked, placing a hand on Wade's back and rubbing it up and down gently.

"...then that's when I found out that it was weak to super sonic sound waves. I was on my way to Tony's lab to steal one of his sonic echo mechanisms, when I threw an explosive to Carnage to keep him busy while I stole the mechanism; but then I noticed it didn't like the fire the explosive gave off-"
"Yeah, they don't like heat." Stephen said. Tony was leaning against his shoulder, sleeping soundly. Stephen had put a spell on him to ease his mind and put him in a calm relaxed state. All three of them were sitting in the waiting room. Peter had been in the E.R for seven hours.
"Yeah. So I broke the gas line of a car nearby and made a circle around Carnage, and lit it. I watched him go down in flames, it smelt terrible. It was like you had left a price of chicken sitting in the grill with the lid down, then opening it when it burns. Plus it made a terrible nois-"
"Wade." Stephen looked at him.
"Right. Then as I watched it burn, in between flames I saw something move. I thought, "Is this thing still alive?" Then I saw it was something more human like, I caught a bit of blue. Then I knew it was Peter." Wade said. "I rushed in there and got him out. I placed him on the ground and removed his mask. I tried waking him up, but he wasn't waking up. I tried hearing for a heartbeat, there was nothing. I felt for pulse, but there was nothing either. It was terrifying. I couldn't think what to do. I felt tears-"
"Stephen." Christine stepped into the room with a clipboard.
"Christine." Stephen started to slowly get up. Tony felt him move and woke up. He blinked a few times, then saw Christine and became wide awake.
"How is he? Is he okay? Can I go see-"
"He's fine. He's okay." Christine said. That put a huge smile on Tony's face.
"That's great! Let's go see him. Can I go see-" Tony's heart sunk when he saw the look on Christine's face.
"He suffered a large trauma in the right side of his brain. There is a lot of swelling in the brain. There was a lot of bleeding within the layers of the brain. He's got toxic-metabolic encephalopathy. The causes of toxic-metabolic encephalopathy include systemic illness, infection, organ failure."
"Does that mean he is going to die? Is Peter going to be okay? Can I go see him now? Please. Please you have to let me see him." Tony began to get anxious. Stephen put his hand on Tony's shoulder, indicating him to stop. Christine looked at Tony.
"We found abnormalities in the h2o content of his body, the electrolytes and vitamins and other chemicals that adversely affect brain function gave very abnormal readings. We tried t-"
"I don't know what that means!" Tony yelled in frustration. He just wanted to see his son.
"He's in a coma Tony." Stephen said.
Wade put a hand over his face. His heart hurt.
Tony walked out of the room.
"Excuse me. Sir I-"
Stephen cut Christine off. "Just let him." He said.
Christine looked at Stephen. "Stephen what kind of accident was this kid in? What happened? I have never seen readings like these in my life. What's going on?"
"I need to make sure Tony is okay." Stephen said, walking out of the room.
He found Tony outside, leaning against one of the high balconies of the hospital. The sky was dark, and the stars were not there. It was cloudy and ugly. Stephen joined Tony in the silence of the outside. He placed a hand on his shoulder.
Tony immediately embraced him and sobbed in his husband's chest. Stephen held him close.

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
