He was controlling
and terribly strict with you,
giving in on rare ocassions but staying
firm for the most part.
Jack Napier was a particular man,
and he liked things to stay in their place.
You were his little girl.
And in his mind,
You were going to act accordingly
or else.
"Eat 'cha dinner doll"
He told you lowly,
his intense blue eyes on you
from across the table as you sat
in silence because there had been a lot
of tension lately.
Picking up your fork,
you ate a mouthful of what was on your plate,
chewing slowly to appease him.
"What did ya do today hm?"
He asked you,
abandoning his own food
and lighting up a cigarette but
he usually had one rule for himself
and an entirely different one for you.
"Wrote in my diary..."
You answered him quietly.
"I went out in the garden for a while
and did some painting"
His eyes fixated on you,
he seemed dissatisfied by your
reply.
"Is that all ya do all day baby?"
He scoffed.
"Sit around doing meaningless
bullshit whilst I'm busting my ass?"
"Daddy"
You breathed out.
"You said you didn't want me to
to have a job"
"And did I tell you to fucking paint?"
He raised an eyebrow,
a firm look in his eyes.
"Did I tell you to write shit in
a notebook about your little feelings?"
"No..."
You trailed off into a silence,
defeated by him.
"You should do things
that mean something baby girl.
Why don't cha let daddy show you
how to do the numbers for the club hm?"
Nodding gently,
you didn't want to argue with
him because you already knew
the outcome and it wasn't pleasant.
"You bought those new pens for my birthday"

You looked up at him.
"Does it mean that I can't use
them anymore?"
An irritated sigh leaving his mouth,
he stubbed out the cigarette.
"You can use them sometimes.
I just dont want ya sitting around
all day"
"Can I watch some tv tonight
after dinner?"
"You may"
He met your eyes for a moment,
his phone signalling a call in his pocket
suddenly as left the table to answer it.
Waiting till he was out of eye range,
you picked up your plate,
scraping the rest of the food into the
trash can because you were no longer hungry
and you knew it would piss him off
if you didn't finish.
"You finished?"
He appeared in the hallway,
leaning against the arch.
"You can have some ice cream if ya want"
"Really?"
You smiled at him excitedly,
heading to the fridge.
"Yay!"
*****
Checking his watch like
he was waiting for something,
you were on the couch,
in his lap,
resting your head on his chest
with his arm draped over
your shoulder,
watching a movie quietly
like he said you could.
You could feel his hand on your head,
smoothing your hair down,
kissing your forehead softly.
"That's enough now baby,
alright?
Go get ready for bed"
Sighing softly,
you climbed down from his lap,
brushing your teeth and getting
changed into your pyjamas
before getting into bed,
noticing that he was still fully dressed.
"Aren't you coming to bed daddy?"
You asked him anxiously.
"No"
He leaned down,
making sure you were in the sheets
properly,
kissing your little nose.
"I got somewhere to be.
Don't get out of this bed.
I want to see ya laying right here
when I get back"
"Okay"
You whispered
against his mouth as he kissed you,
a grin forming on his lips.
"Who's daddy's girl hm?"
"I am daddy"
You smiled at him,
his way of saying he loved you.

The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
