He didn't come home that night
and you knew that he would never leave you
alone for so long on purpose.
Every time you would hear the slightest sound,
you would rush out into the hallway but the apartment door would stay closed.
You couldn't call him because he always told you not to if he was to suddenly disappear,
that it was happening for a reason and it was
in your best interest not to have any contact
with him until he initiated it with you.
You had been crying all day,
laying in bed with your stuffies and
going through all of the haunting scenarios
in your head of what could have
happened to him,
the phone ringing suddenly and you got
onto your knees,
leaning over the gap between the wall
and the bed to answer it.
"Daddy?"
You choked out.
"Fuck"
He ran a hand over his face tiredly,
eyeing the police officer standing behind him,
watching his every move,
the cuffs on his wrists making it hard to speak
to you the way he wanted to.
"Have you been up all night?"
"You didn't come home"
You breathed out.
"Where are you?"
"Look..."
An irritated sigh left his mouth because there
was no point in hiding it from you.
"I've been arrested alright?
I'm in the fucking police station.
The mothers fuckers raided the club at random,
found some fucking drugs and used it as
an excuse to take us in"
"Arrested?"
You cried.
"But you can't be.
How am I going to do anything?"
"Yeah,
That's the thing doll"
He told you lowly.
"I need you to come down to the
police station alright?
Bring some money with you.
You know where daddy keeps it"
"I can't daddy-"
"Baby"

He cut you off.
"I need you to do this for me alright?
You want to be alone for months?
The bail is set.
If you don't get ya little ass down here,
it's fucking penitentiary for me
so if ya think you're alone now,
wait till you're taking care of yourself
for three months"
Sighing softly,
you thought about it.
You couldn't be alone for more than
a few days by yourself.
It was too hard to function.
"Okay daddy"
You answered him quietly.
"Thats my good girl.
Don't be too long alright?
If I have to stay in here a minute longe
than I have to,
I'm gonna lose my shit and
then we're all fucked"
*******
Stopping at the steps to the
police station,
you held your bagpack close to you,
pushing open the doors and stepping inside,
his men standing up as soon as they noticed
you before making him aware
that you showed up.
"Fucking finally"
He muttered under his breathe,
a police officer opening the gate to the cell,
letting them out one by one so they could deal with the necessary paperwork and release forms.
"Daddy?"
You looked at him as he signed
the release statement,
writing something completely incoherent so
they wouldn't be able to trace or identify his handwriting,
hurt that it had been twenty four hours
and he barely even acknowledged
let alone touched you.
"I'm sorry it took me so long.
It was hard to build up the courage
to come down here.
I'm not used to dealing with these things"
"Oh no"
He said sarcastically.
"I sure hope it didn't inconvenience
you too much sweetheart"
"Daddy"
You breathed.
"You know what I'm like"
"Let's get the fuck out of here"
He rolled his eyes at the police officers

watching him like a hawk,
knocking the pen onto the floor carelessly.
"Fucking assholes.
Aren't 'cha fucking embarrassed the only
thing ya could get on me is a drug charge?"
"How are we going to get home?"
You asked him anxiously,
"There's a car about a block away
I just leave in the parking lot.
Never know when you're gonna
need a getaway car huh?"
"Do you have anything to say to me?"
"Like what?"
He scoffed.
"I was alone for twenty four hours daddy"
"Oh?"
He mocked you.
"Did I leave my little girl all by herself all night?
Can you ever forgive me baby?"
"You're in a bad mood"
You huffed.
"I'm sorry ya had to do this alright?"
He told you firmly a few minutes later.
"I wasn't planning on getting arrested,
It just fucking happened.
One minute,
I was sitting there doing a deal and the next,
the police swarmed the place.
I couldn't get to you baby girl"

Ghostified City
‘Ghostified City’ is a post-dystopian sci-fi tale, set in a fading world that might be a future version of ours, running out on autopilot into oblivion. Adaman Yimmand is a simple robofactory operator in The City who's working with robots and machines every day. He doesn’t even realise that he might not have met another actual human being in years. Everything begins when he breaks his routine for once and enters a bar where he meets Evelith. This pesky other person does not let him go after he has had his -rather terrible- beer, because according to her actual humans are much rarer than he’s aware of. And from then on ‘the genie is out of the bottle and won’t get back in’, to use her words: Adaman meets more people, and gradually he has no choice but to accept that the reality of The City is not what he always thought it was, and to face the darkness of a fading humanity on the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Is there any hope left for him, and for his species? I have selected 'sexual content' and 'traumatising content' to be on the safe side, because there is a stripclub-like venue in the background of the story, and an almost-extinct humanity that has institutionalised suicide which might be disturbing to some. Apart from that it's not really a heavy 'adult' story.('Ghostified City' is my first long story in English as opposed to my native language Dutch, and an earlier version was published on my fiction blog 'Oranderra' until I stopped updating. This is a slightly altered version of the first series.)
