"What....?", Peter blinked as he looked at her.
He might have heard it wrong this time.
Madison face-palmed at his reaction and looked away.
"Nothing, you can go home now. I need sleep..."
"I guess not..", Peter thought, seeing the slight disappointment in the girl's face as she was about to walk pass him without saying anything more.
Peter pursed his lips and immediately uncrossed his legs midair and flew towards her until he was in front of her again, making her stop in her tracks and look at him confusedly.
"What? I'm going to open the window for y--"
"I heard it.", he admitted, cutting her off her words as the girl raised an eyebrow an scoffed.
"Ah, you did? Then I guess you're not deaf now, huh? Now get out.", she shooed him and waved her hands at him, only to witness her hands keep passing through the boy's face as if it's not affecting him.
Peter tilted his head, avoiding her hands so he could look at her.
"Why are you in a hurry? Did I do something wrong?", he asked innocently, earning a glare from Madison as she lowered her hands.
"No.", she simply replied to his second question.
"Are you mad at me?"- Peter
"No."- Madison
Peter face-palmed.
Why does it look like she's fighting him because of a small thing--No...perhaps it's a big deal to her..?
"I said I heard it though...", he repeated his answer as his face slightly frowned while looking at her.
"Then why bother asking again if you did?", she asked, crossing her arms at him.
Peter stared at her for a while before looking away, rubbing the back of his head while thinking of an answer that won't offend her.

"I..I just want to hear it again..", he mumbled, loud enough for her to hear.
"That's a pity, because that'll be the last time for me to---"
"That's a bummer, I instantly liked it when you said it to me earlier.", he straight up confessed as Madison raised an eyebrow.
She opened her mouth and was about to say something but closed it immediately and sighed.
"Is there anything else you want to talk about?", she asked, changing the topic as Peter hummed, remembering something as soon as she asked that.
"Ah yes. Do me a favor and always lock your door.", he straightforwardly said, making Madison confused by the sudden favor.
"Why?"
"Let's just say this is the safest room in your house, whatever or WHOEVER is outside of it, is an actual threat.", he stated as Madison furrowed her eyebrows.
"....Including my father?", she asked as Peter took a moment to respond before nodding.

"Yes, including your father. Did you hurt yourself today?", he suddenly asked as Madison instantly looked down at her foot.
Peter followed her gaze and look back up at her.
"Did you..?", he asked again as Madison nodded in response before going back towards her bed and sat at the side of it as she looked at him.
"Honestly, yes. I accidentally stepped on a glass shard earlier."
"Glass shard...?", he repeated in confusion as all she did was nod in response and raised her foot while turning her leg a bit to the side, revealing the slightly dry wound on her skin.
Peter then lets his feet float off the ground as he flew to her. As soon as he landed his feet on the floor once again, he crouched down to have a good look on the wound she gained.

"...How can you possibly step on a glass shard that's big enough to leave a size of that on your foot?", he asked as his eyebrows raised.
"The living room is awfully messy this morning. The tv screen is broken, the table near the couches are broken as well and a couple of empty bottles were scattered around the place. When I was about to search for my father, I didn't notice that there were broken bottle shards just right at the bottom of the stairs so...yea....", she explained and looked away from embarrassment.
Peter tilted his head and squinted his eyes at the wound before standing up and looking at her.
"Be careful and stay ware this time, and I suggest that you should stop finding your father or even dare to face him.", he said as Madison looked back at him.
Before she can even say something, Peter turned his back in her and went towards the window.
"Anyway, I should be going.", he said as he opened the window and flew towards it, landing his feet on the window frame before turning his head to the side to look back at the girl, who's just looking back at him with a slight frown as she sat on her bed.
Peter was sure she was frowning just now, is it because...he's leaving again..?
"I....might not be going back her until....", he halted in his words and looked away as he cleared his throat.
Madison frowned even more at the first words of his sentence and got a bit confused when he suddenly halted.
"Until...?", she asked as Peter looked at her with an unreadable expression.
Madison blinked, getting more confused as she got a bit more curious.
Then a thought suddenly came to her mind.
She suddenly let out a sad smile, making Peter feel taken aback since it reminded him of the exact same smile that her mother had.......at the day of her
"Until....it's time for me to go?", she finally asked as Peter let out a sad expression before looking away.
"Yes. Since it has already come to this, I really can't interfere anymore even if I wanted to. The fate that you now have must happen the exact way it is. And that's...without me by your side.", he let out as Madison frowned even more,
She suddenly let out a small smile which Peter found it sudden as he tilted his head at her.
"What's with the smile?"
"I just thought that it'll get lonely when you're gone for a while...", she mumbled as Peter furrowed his eyebrows, having a thought of something due to what she just said.
-
-
-
"You better not do anything stupid to yourself while I'm gone--"
"I won't do anything stupid, besides, I prefer waiting for you and keep thinking of you so I could get my mind off at negative situations.", she straightly admitted.
Peter's cheeks flushed pink as he instantly looked away and cleared his throat.
"I-I should go now, the stars will disappear soon if morning comes. Take care of yourself.", he said and the girl nodded with a smile.
He pursed his lips, debating if he should say something before he leaves.
-
-
-
"Ah, by the way, about earlier...", he started off as Madison tilted her head at him, a bit confused on what he's pertaining to.
"Hm?", she hummed in response.
Peter pursed his lips, feeling hesitant as he slowly let out a small smile.
"The feeling is mutual.", he chuckled before flying out of her window.
Madison blinked, processing what he just said for a couple of seconds.
She suddenly felt her cheeks warming up, blushing in fact-- as she now realized he meant.

Colors blur into one another until my vision is completely white. All I can think is "Shit, not this again!" I hate being summoned. _________________________________ updates once a week until I get more time The idea for this story began in two places. One was the ridiculously rapid pace of gaining power in many novels. Both in games and in novels, I enjoy the struggle of the beginning character, why always the rush? The other was the way many monster or non-human MCs always seem to hurry to become human (again). It always felt like a cheap way to grant the character extra powers without the difficulty of writing a non-standard thought process. Thus I wanted to write the slow(ish) progression of a monster character gaining strength and intelligence, while remaining distinctly non-human. There are no stats, xp or systems, no reincarnated soul or completely formed being to start with - unless I want to make fun of those. While the MC 'evolves', the process takes months if not years to proceed step by little step. Sit down with me and imagine, what would it be like if...
