《The Memorial Day Murders》Chapter 36 : Baby on the way

"Cease fire guys." I said. "Thumb your weapon's fire selector to safe." doing the same thing I let my weapon hang free and folded my arms. James shouldered his rifle after putting his weapon's fire selector to safe. "Make your weapons safe, inside!" I added. Then a few minutes later, Jay, Jefferson, Olivia, and my grand-uncle entered the picture, all bearing weapons.
"Cool, Terminator reborn." Dominic said when he saw my grand-uncle holding a double-barrel shotgun. "Uh, sorry commander." he said again when I glared at him.
"What is going on here?" one of my father's closest friends, Benedict Schaffhauser, asked.
"She knew that you all are on the way here and called for the plan." my grand-uncle explained.
"Oh my." the British prime minister whispered. "I didn't even know that the five of you were down there in the freezing cold."
"Winter gear helped Madam Prime Minister." I said, unzipping the jacket. The white jacket hang free, revealing it's contents tucked within : ammo strapped to a tactical and lightweight bulletproof vest, a taser hanging on the belt complete with an Swiss army knife strapped to my thigh, the pair of binoculars that has night vision capabilities and a flare gun.
"You could've been The Wolf if we haven't took a closer look." Dom said. "Given that The Wolf is a total ghost now."
"All right, put back those guns." I said.
"Gun's sweet, couldn't resist to hold it." Gerry said.
"Didn't you have one already ese?" Dom said.
"I still want to hold it for a while amigo." Gerry told his cousin.
"Although I told you to make the weapons safe that doesn't you can hold on to it." I said. "Let's be clear, we are now with the world leaders, not some crazy ass warzone back in Syria, or that paintball fight in the South Korean wilderness."

"Where's Tango and Foxtrot?" Dom asked.
"Kicked them into the panic room." Jay said.
"Put down the weapons and stuff them back where we have taken. Dom, you and I, got some explaining job to do." I said. "Better free them Jay, not wise to keep them locked in."
"Hold up first," President Reagan broke the silence. "Since we found the team alive and well you guys are going to go back to the States, no excuses." Our teammates shared a wary glance upon that thought as we cannot be sure that The Wolf could be tracking us down.
"Now what?" Dom looked at me. "If we leave, what about James? He's MI6."
"Harold Manchester is under protection, a least of our worries but James, although MI6, could still be vulnerable since, my grand-uncle shot him a few hours ago by accident."
"I am still assigned to look after you." the man himself protested. "The chief is just right here if you need to negotiate."
"You don't need it, I moved your family underground when a package containing a timed explosive exploded when the postman is delivering letters not far from the van, which went up in flames." Anger seethed within James' eyes but he said nothing, minus his clenched knuckles. "I assigned you to two missions, protecting your old friend and do the country a favor by taking this man down."
"Okay." he said cooly, folding his arms in this process. His expressions hinted that he is itching for some action like this.
Air Force One
"What were you thinking Isabella?" President Reagan's voice sliced through the silence dominating the meeting room onboard the aircraft. "As much as I appreciate your need to go dark but this isn't the way." I folded my arms in silence, refusing to say anything.

"It's my choice Mr. President." I said. "I know how dangerous Sayyid Bin Masir is."
"You phoned Barack to tell him."
"And you conveniently called him to the White House when I phoned in." I replied. President Reagan looked at me with disbelief. "I have to triangulate the location he would be at before I can call him, which is when I manage to intercept a call between you and him."
"Was that intel wrong? About Bin Masir?"
"Seems that way." I say. "Information on Bin Masir is scarce."
"The IC managed to dig up more info on Bin Masir." the President said. "If he's still alive you will still need to eliminate him." the door opened before I can inquire upon the findings and Doctor Hazel Rhodes entered, holding a sheet of paper in her hand. "Doctor Rhodes."
"Mr. President." she nodded her head. "Madam Vice President."
"Doctor Rhodes." I said.
"The results are in Mr. President." she declared. "Sorry to say this Madam Vice President, but you are officially pregnant." hearing this my eyes widened in shock, as well as President Reagan. "According to the test conducted the baby is two months old gestational age." she said.
"Not a good time." I said with a sigh.
"You need to limit yourself madam, don't go into firefights which I knew you are more than eager to rush into right now."
"Not to mention cutting out physical combat." President Reagan added.
"Relegated to desk job, again." I said. "I need to talk with them." Exiting the room I folded my arms and sighed again as I walked down the hallway to another room where members of the black ops team are asked to wait at. Someone grabbed me by my arm from the back but I already know who that was. Bruce, still not letting go, dragged me into a small conference room. There was a really awkward silence between us as he locked the door after we entered. I looked at him in silence as he stepped closer to my position, holding my hands in his. He leaned forward, giving me a kiss. Letting go, he looked at me with his blue eyes. "Bruce," I begun, inhaling a breath. "I'm... I'm pregnant." I told him, a hand on my abdomen. He still looked at me, his hand pausing, then reaching my hand where I am trying to feel the presence of our child.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.
