《The Memorial Day Murders》Chapter 27 : Hunting The Wolf

"Done." I said, stepping back from the security console. "Lincoln, you can get in now." crouching low the tech expert snuck in and plugged in a USB cable connecting to his encrypted tablet.
"They have some serious tech going on around here." Jefferson said as the percentage display below the loading bar started to run. "But still outdated."
"How can you be sure?" he didn't reply and we stared at the screen.
"Done." he said, a few seconds later. "The security feed will still be running but in a loop condition."
"Should be enough time." I said. "But the guard's the problem now."
"Oh yeah that." he said. "How about we just put him back on the chair?"
"That won't work. The blood." I said. His gaze darted between the body and the blood.
"Forget about him. We attack." Exiting the security booth we regrouped with the team.
"Guys! Sentry!" Dom said. We ducked low and scurried towards our designated points, regrouping with our teammates respectively. "Seriously, there are guard towers."
"Now what? Who's gonna take them?" Jay asked me. There are four guard towers surrounding the compound, each stood a guard and armed with a weapon.
"Are you two familiar with surveillance tactics?" I whirled towards the South Korean soldiers.
"I'm familiar with watch duty jobs." one replied.
"No, I do not." the second one replied.
"Hmm..." ideas now start to churn in my head. One soldier is not enough to fool the remaining three. "Bravo can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear Alpha."
"We need guys to take out the guards on the watch tower. I have one here but we need three more.
"Got it, one of the South Korean soldiers volunteered. I'll get Olivia on it."

"All right, Alpha out." I said, pocketing my radio. "Here's the plan." I explained to the soldier. "Take out the guard in the tower near you and guard it, help us to take out targets we missed." Nodding the soldier scurried off while crouching. Then we make our way to the east door while Jay left to help the soldier. I raised a fist when we reached the corner close enough for an ambush.
"Christ, all armed with AKs." Gerry said. "What are we gonna do?"
"Watch me." I whispered. Then the guards heard a whistle in the night not far from their post.
"We're going to check it out." I heard one of them whispering in Arabic. When they turned the corner, they found out something's wrong.
"Enemy-" their voices were silenced as Gerry and I fired simultaneously, the gunshots taking them down silenced by the silencers.
"That's your plan? By whistling?"
"I was taught with skills not normally used in the army." I explained, searching one of their pockets for keys. Finding one I nabbed it and unlocked the door, entering the compound with caution. "Alright men, be sharp and careful with the footing." We know that the president will be watching with the vice president and the national security team through the video cameras mounted on our combat helmets. "Alpha to Bravo we are clear from the east side."
"Roger that Alpha, Bravo is clear and heading to secure the area." We regrouped at the main door serving as the main entry point and Dom took out the explosive packs he had brought along. "Keep back! Setting up explosives!" Attaching the explosives to the door hinges we all stepped back and Dom proceeded to press the detonator. The timer installed beeped loudly and rapidly for the countdown and the device exploded, blowing the door open and hurling whoever is inside, far from where they stand. "Go! Go! Go!" Dom then shouted. We launched into an attack, advancing in the compound as we gunned down the terrorists. Shouts in Arabic were heard when they realized that their enemy is attacking. Gerry and I advanced quickly, knowing that our target, Sayyid Bin Masir, is in the compound's second floor. Reaching a door I turned the door knob but the door was locked from the inside. Gerry motioned for us to kick the door open and I nodded in agreement. The door went down with two strong kicks, sending the guards barricading the door on the ground and they shouted. Two shots were fired and the two men went down.

"Where the hell is that son of a bitch!" Gerry asked. Nobody is in the room besides the two dead guards but we noticed a door. Breaking down the door we found ourselves aiming at our target, wearing a S-vest and a gun pointing at us, a detonator in another hand. Sayyid Bin Masir stared down at us as we did the same to him, our eyes trained at the target, fingers on the trigger. "Don't you goddamn press that thing!"
"Your time is up Sayyid Bin Masir." I said in Arabic. "Mercy will be given if you surrender."
"Never!" he shouted. He tried to press the detonator and we fired our carbine, Gerry's round a headshot and mine's a round to the chest. Blood seeped out from his head wound and he collapsed to the ground, the detonator in his hand slipping. I ran to grab it and caught it after sliding down to the ground, stopping the threat while Gerry kicked aside the handgun. Disarming the explosive vest we both slid down to the ground in relief.
"Alpha to Bravo, the mission is a success." I said through my radio. Besides our walkie-talkie we each have an earpiece connected to the comms at Burqa and I pressed against the earpiece. "The job is done commanders." I said.
"We're watching the whole thing commander." our commanding officer replied. "We'll deploy an Apache and a Chinook." After that the said aircraft showed up and we brought the body back to base for a further analysis. Upon confirming the body did belong to Bin Masir we buried the body at sea according to Islamic rites.
A week later
"Another day, another training." said a tried Gerry, plopping his food tray at the table the six of us would normally sit at. "I felt more energy is drained from my body." The coalition disbanded two days later but our commanders hinted that this coalition won't be the last.
"Yeah right, says a guy who has just joined the navy training." I said, glaring at him. Whispers soon conquered the base when we returned from the clandestine mission and the President went on camera to inform the American people.
"Not to mention, it's Navy SEALs we're talking about." Dominic said. "You're losing to Isa's grandad."
"You grandpapa's in the navy Isa?"
"My mom's side." I replied. "Went to Vietnam."
"Oh my God. Your grandpa's a Vietnam Vet?" Jay asked. "Mine too."
"He's a South Korean Marine." I replied.
"Oh man, the South Korean Marines are really badass during Vietnam." Lincoln said, whistling. "Now I know where did you get the badassery from."
"Kids, please come to the same briefing room after finishing your chow." our commanding officer walked by.
"LGF's a buzzkill." Olivia said. Some of us shrugged and continued eating. While I eat I can feel the glance thrown at my direction from Luke Fox, seated far away from our table.

Primacy Online
Life on Earth was nearly eradicated in World War III, but using alien technology, the Patriarch of the Church of the Resurrection built a new society from the ashes. He created what he called the Constructed Reality MMORPG, Primacy Online, a world so real that the players could not distinguish it from reality. After outlawing wars between the city-states on Earth, he declared that all wars would be fought inside the world of Primacy Online. Thirteen hundred years later, the release of Primacy Online VI: Legacy of Balor signals the beginning of World War IX. Players from Earth's city-states will be locked in cryogenic capsules and play Primacy Online in War Mode. Their achievements in the game will determine the victory rankings of their city-states, but if they die in the game, they will die for real. Patrick Armagh found flaws in the game mechanics of Primacy Online and exploited them to rise to the peak of the game. But when the Church declared he was cheating, he was perma-banned from the game. Now, the Church has declared that Patrick and all the other perma-banned cheaters will be included in a special Church group for World War IX, where they can earn redemption for their sin of cheating. However, Morgan Danan, Speaker of the City of Mann, and the generally acknowledged number one player of Primacy Online, has a deal for Patrick. With her help and his method of cheating, he has the chance to become a virtual god within Primacy Online, but by taking up her offer, he will become an enemy of the Church. Like a significant percentage of Primacy Online players, Patrick suffers from an ultimately fatal, degenerative nervous system disorder. He has less than five years to live. With death staring him in the face and nothing to live for, he accepts Morgan Danan's offer, and once again, enters Primacy Online as Crom Cruach, a disgraced legend. Will Crom Cruach, once again, become a legend, or will he be destroyed by the Church? What secrets has the Church hidden inside the game?

A thousand years later, the ritual was used again and "The First Sorceress" was brought to the world. She brought the knowledge of advanced magics, and techniques to find and refine magical talent. With the magic power now added to the battlefield, the stalemate was broken. And for the first time, the demons were pushed back. Another thousand years later, and all of humanites hope for a final victory were dashed. Traitors slew the ritual's participants and took their places, and humanity quaked as The Demon King stepped into the world. His name, his nature, where he came from none of these are known, but what is known is his overwhelming power and his brilliant strategic leadership of the formerly formless hordes. Still, despite their position being even more dire than it has ever been since history has been recorded, humanity held on for another thousand years. Aided, thankfully, by The Demon King not taking the field after the first few years and battles. Now, the ritual is being cast again and a new hero is being summoned. In our world, after nearly three decades of study and hard work, Lucas Jaeger is making his dreams come true. With a double doctorate in both genetics and microbiology, as well as an associates degree in accounting, he has finally, after nearly driving himself mad from stress and sick from overwork, been able to put to together a presentation and ask for a business loan. His long time dream, earned by his own blood and sweat, to start his own commercial genetic company is finally coming to fruition. Lucas's car never left the banks parking lot and Lucas was never seen again in our world. This is a rewrite of "A Broken World."
