-Emma POV-

The next morning we went back to the Cullen's house.

Jasper was teaching me how to play chess when Bella and Edward came back.

"Wow" said Emmett. "Done already?"

"Where's Renesmee?" asked Bella.

"Blondie stole her" said Jacob.

"Break a lot of stuff?" asked Emmett.

"Emmett. No" said Bella.

We were all laughing until the phone went off...

'Charlie...'

"Is that Charlie?" asked Bella.

"He's been calling twice a day" I said.

"He's in pretty rough shape" said Jacob.

"Eventually we'll have to tell him you didn't make it" said Carlisle. "Same thing with Emma"

"He needs to mourn, Bella" said Edward.

Jasper took me in his arms and rubbed over my back.

"Okay. We'll do it tomorrow" said Bella and she looked at me.

"You're right" I said. "The sooner, the better for him"

"I'm gonna miss this place" said Emmett.

"We'll come back. We always do" said Carlisle.

"Wait" said Jacob. "Nobody said anything about leaving"

"Once people believe Bella's dead, we can't risk anyone seeing her" said Carlisle.

"So you just disappear?" asked Jacob.

"Jacob, we don't have another choice" said Edward.

I was hugging my knees in the couch, when Jasper took me in his arms again.

"How did it feel for you?" I asked. "When everyone you knew thought you were dead?"

"It was war time, Emma" he said. "People died all the time. It was easy to disappear"

I snuggled up in his chest and a tear fell down my cheek.

"Charlie has been like a father to me, Jazz" I whispered. "I don't want to lie to him..."

"I know, darling" he whispered in my hair. "I wish you didn't have to"

"Emma! Get down here!" shouted Bella and I ran down where Jacob stood nervously.

"Oh god. What the bloody hell did you do now?" I asked.

"I solved a problem" he said. "You were leaving"

"What. Did. You. Do?" I asked again.

"I shifted in front of Charlie" he said.

"What?!" I shouted. "Have you gone completely bonkers?"

"What did you expect me to do?" he asked.

"You don't realize the danger you've put him in" said Bella. "The Volturi will kill anyone who knows about us"

"No, I didn't tell him about you or Emma" said Jacob. "Just me. I only said you were different"

"And that we have a niece who we adopted" said Edward.

"I mean, seriously, Jake. He's not just gonna let that go" said Bella.

"Did your tiny idiotic wolf brain even consider the physical pain he'll put Bella through?" I asked.

"It'll be like sticking a white hot branding iron down her throat" said Edward.

"I did not had to hear that comparison, thank you very much" I said.

"And that's assuming she can control her thirst" said Edward.

"Look, Charlie has been in hell. And I know you'll be much happier with him in your life. The both of you" said Jacob.

"Jacob, don't try and pretend you're doing this for anyone but yourself" said Edward.

"Sorry you feel that way" said Jacob. "Because he'll be here in ten minutes"

"Oh, that's just brilliant" I said and facepalmed.

"These will irritate your eyes at first" said Alice when she put in the brown contact lenses into Bella's eyes.

"The main thing is not to move too fast" said Carlisle.

"Try taking a seat. Crossing your legs" said Esme.

Bella stood up, and she speeded to the chair... and crossed her legs...

"Maybe a tad slower, Bells" I said.

"And blink at least three times a minute" said Alice, Bella blinked, a lot... "Good"

"For a cartoon character" said Jacob.

"Shut up, Jacob" I said. "This is your fault"

"Hold your breath. It will help with the thirst" said Carlisle.

"Just don't forget to move your shoulders so it looks like you're breathing" said Edward.

"And don't sit so straight" said Rosalie. "Humans don't do that"

"Okay I got it" said Bella and stood up. "Move around, blink, slouch"

A car approached and I sighed.

"I'll go out and meet him. It'll put him in a better mood" I said to Carlisle and walked down the stairs.

"Emma" said Charlie and hugged me.

"Hello Charlie" I said and hugged him back.

"You're not going to change into a wolf, are you?" he asked and I laughed.

"No, I'm not that cool" I said and he relaxed. "I'm still the same as I've always been. Just more at peace now, Charlie"

"You look good, Emma" he said.

"Come on, Bella is upstairs" I said and guided him to Bella.

"Bella" said Charlie.

"Hi, Dad" said Bella softly.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Never better" said Bella. "Healthy as a horse"

"You don't turn into an animal too, do you?" he asked and I laughed.

"She wishes she was that awesome" said Jacob.

"Let's give them some privacy" said Edward and I smiled at Bella and Charlie, before leaving the room too.

Jasper sensed my sadness and he ran to me.

"I'll be okay" I whispered and he kissed my forehead. "Just not now, I guess"

"I'm here, darling" he whispered.
