《The Banshee (Jasper Hale x OC)》Chapter 8

Jasper asked me to go to his house, where they all could explain.
So I left a note saying that I would stay over at Alice's.
Dr. Cullen and Alice were already waiting for us.
"Alice can see in the future, so she knew we were coming" said Jasper.
"Come in, Emma. I suspect you have a lot of questions" said Dr. Cullen.
I held Jasper's hand tightly, I was still a bit scared.
"Oh, great. She knows" said Rosalie. "You told her, didn't you?"
"I had to, Rosalie" said Jasper and she left the room.
"Don't worry about her. She'll turn around" said Emmett.
"I'm Esme, it's nice to finally meet you, Emma" said a beautiful woman.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Cullen" I said and she smiled.
"Just call me Esme, dear" she said and I nodded.
I sat down in the sofa, not letting go of Jasper. He was my link to this reality.
"So, what questions do you have?" asked Dr. Cullen. "Jasper can answer anything about what we are if you're more comfortable. But I knew your mother, I can try to answer those questions"
"Eh... Jasper said you met her 90 years ago" I said. "But, Dr. Cullen, how is that possible?"
"Call me Carlisle" he said and I nodded. "Your mother was a Banshee. From what she told me, when you have a near death experience, you begin to feel death and the supernatural around you. But, when you scream like a Banshee, you will stop aging. She told me that 2 years after nearly dying, she screamed and didn't age anymore"
"2 years you say, heh" I said and looked at my hand that was intertwined with Jasper's. "A year after my mother died, my dad became obsessed with surviving death. One day he didn't came home, he was just gone, no note, not a single message"
I rolled up my sleeves, showing everyone in the room my scars. "A few weeks later, he came back home. But he was different. He was paler and his eyes were red. He said he had found a way to save me, so that I wouldn't die like my mom. He bit me, but when nothing happened, he kept biting me"
Jasper wrapped his arm around me and kissed my hair, knowing that telling them wasn't easy.
"He would leave often, and people were dying all around. And when he came home, he kept trying to change me. But one day, he hit me so I passed out. I can't remember much, but I remember people with red eyes checking me. And setting my father on fire. They left me there and I was barely out of reach of the fire when I came too. The neighbour had to drag me out of the house to save me, apparently I flatlined once on the way to the hospital" I said and they all listened to my story. "So, why did my mom die? If she was as old as you say, and why didn't my dad succeed in changing me?"

"Banshees are immortal creatures, they won't die of natural causes and they heal faster than normal humans. But they can be killed like humans. And Banshees are immune to vampire venom" explained Carlisle.
"They said my mom died of an animal attack" I said and looked him straight in the eyes. "Is that true?"
"I'm not sure, it's quite possible that it was a vampire who killed her" he answered honestly.
"Here, I made you some warm milk" said Esme and gave me the cup.
"Thank you" I said and accepted the cup.
"How are you taking all of this?" asked Emmett and smirked.
"Eh, okay, I think?" I said and he looked surprised. "It's nice to know I'm not going crazy like my father"
"I'll set up a bed for you to sleep in" said Alice and left the room.
~
I followed Jasper to his room, there was a bed quickly set up for me.
"You're handling this surprisingly well" said Jasper and I sat down on the bed.
"You said you could control emotions. Have you been doing that to me?" I asked.
"Yes, but only so that they wouldn't overwhelm you, or that you calmed down" he said. "I'm sorry"
"No, don't be. I'm grateful" I said and laid my hand on his. "You've helped me, so I'm very grateful"
"Okay, let's leave the questions about vampires for tomorrow" he said.
"Okay" I said and laid down on the bed. "Will you stay with me?"
"Yeah, of course" he said and laid down next to me.
~
I woke up early, with Jasper's arms around me.
"Good morning" he said and I smiled.
"Good morning" I said and sat up. "Do you sleep?"
"You just woke up and you immediately start with the questions?" he asked and laughed.
"Is that so wrong?" I asked and hit him with a pillow.
"No, Alice picked out some clothes for you. And to answer your question, no, I don't sleep" he said and I looked at the clothes Alice picked out for me.
"How do you walk in the sun? Don't vampires burn in the sun?" I asked and he smiled.
"I'll show it to you later" he said and I stood up.
"How old are you?" I asked.
"I was 19 when I turned. And I was born in 1844, in Texas. I was major in the Confederate Army" he said.
"Wait, you actually fought in the war?" I asked and he nodded.
"Major Whitlock" he said and I laughed.
"I would've loved to have seen that" I said. "When did you meet the Cullens?"

"In 1948, after I left the coven and the person that made me. I was turned by a woman named Maria, she was creating a newborn army, that's where I got my scars from. Vampires are the strongest in the first year of their transformation. And with my gift to control emotions, I was a big help to her. But, I could feel the emotions of everyone, even those I killed. So I left, and then I found Alice" he said and smiled. "She saw me coming of course, she said that the Cullens could help me. And that one day, I'd find happiness"
"Did you?" I asked, he looked at me and touched my face.
"Yes, I believe I did" he said and I blushed slightly. "Now, Miss Marshall. If you get dressed, I can show you how I look in the sun before I take you to school"
"Alright, Mr. Whitlock" I teased and smiled. "I do have to ask for you to turn around before I get dressed. Or did they not have any manners back in the 1800's?"
"As you wish, Ma'am" he said and left the room.
I got changed and walked outside, to see that Rosalie had made me breakfast.
"I'm sorry" she said.
"May I ask why you apologise?" I asked and she smiled.
"I thought it was dangerous for humans to know about us. But since you're not fully human and you've known about vampires for a long time. What I'm trying to say, is that you're not so bad. I can live with it if it's you" she said and I smiled.
"Thank you, Rosalie" I said and sat down at the table.
"Can I do your hair?" she asked and I chuckled.
"Of course" I said and she was happy.
She began braiding my hair and Esme walked in.
"My, my. What a sight" she said and I laughed.
"Good morning" I said.
"Good morning, dear. Did you sleep well?" she asked.
"Yes, very well. Thank you for letting me stay here" I said and she smiled.
"Any time" she said.
"Are you ready?" asked Jasper and I looked at Rosalie.
"I'm done, you really have nice hair" she said and I thanked her.
Jasper held out his hand and I grabbed it.
"Okay, where are we going?" I asked.
"One question. Do you trust me?" he asked and he looked like he was up to something.
"I feel like I'm going to regret saying yes" I said and he smirked.
"Hold on tight" he said and pulled me on his back.
I wrapped my arms and legs around him and I closed my eyes. I could feel him running fast.
"Please don't hit any trees!" I shouted and he laughed.
"Don't worry, darling" he said and then he suddenly stopped. I got off his back and he walked to a ray of sunlight.
He was sparkling in the sun and I began to laugh.
"Are you laughing at me, Emma Marshall?" he said and I tried to stop.
"I am so sorry, I can't help myself" I said and sat down. "So, instead of burning in the sun, you... you sparkle"
I began laughing again and he sat down next to me, he was smiling.
"I'm happy you find this amusing" he said and I laid my head on his shoulder.
"Come on, you have to admit. I just found out that vampires are real, but everything I thought I knew about them were myths. You couldn't possibly imagine I could've foreseen that vampires sparkle in the sun" I said and he chuckled.
"I guess you're right" he said.
"I have another question" I said and he looked at me, I was suddenly very serious. "The people who killed my dad. The other ones with the red eyes. Do you know who they were?"
"The Volturi, probably" he said. "They are kind of like our government. Making sure we stay a secret"
"Why did they let me live? If I knew about vampires" I asked.
"Because you're a Banshee" he said. "A supernatural creature like us"
"Whatever that may mean. So, if what Carlisle said about Banshees is true. I'll stop aging when I am 18" I said and sighed.
"Guess that's true" he said. "Are you troubled by it?"
"I don't know yet. I mean, I've never thought about it. But I guess, it'll be okay" I said and he smiled.
"Now, let's go back. Don't forget to close your eyes" he said and smirked.
"Bloody hell" I said and he began to run with me on his back.
~
Jasper drove me to school, where I saw Bella waiting. But she walked past Edward, and he followed her into the forest.
"I think she knows" I told Jasper and he sighed.
"Great, Rosalie is gonna go crazy" he said.
