《Kyra (Completed)》17

I watched the cars beside me, the people in them as we passed them. Some were alone, some with company, some talking on cell phones, even some eating. I was hell bent on keeping my attention anywhere but the left side of the car.
Cameron drove like a bat out of hell and I knew it would grow to bother me. Everything about him would grow to bother me at the moment.
"I trust you.." I mumbled never diverting my attention from what it was set on. I was sure Cam was looking at me and traffic had slowed due to rush hour in Miami. Everyone was fleeing from the city to their homes but everyone can't all at once so here we were. Stuck in traffic.
I'm far from stupid and I knew ams took this interstate on purpose so we could have an open window to talk. I was going to give him what he wanted; but on my terms. "That's not my problem."
I finally looked over at him and his eyes were glued on me. I chewed my bottom lip and sighed. "I kinda predicted that you would get tired of me but I never expected it this soon. I know you like me; I know you care about my feelings but Cameron you will never change..."
"What am I supposed to be evolving into Kyra? Everything's two steps forward ten back with you. I'm not perfect, you know that; you've been exposed to it. I'm not hiding shit from you. Stop looking for something you ain't gone get from me and accept me or this shit never gone work."
"I've accepted you Cameron! Flaws and all! I've fucking accepted you but what the fuck am I supposed to do next time you see a pretty face at a bar and I'm not there! Am I supposed check your cell phone?! Invite these bitches over for dinner on Sunday?!" I scoffed.
"You care about my feelings, but you only have regard for them after you've hurt them!"
"I'm not about to sit here and argue with you about this. You stay taking shit to heart! I'm not fucking Leah! I'm not even fucking you so why are you so bent out of shape for over a text? Who the fuck did I go to sleep next to last night?"
I quickly wiped the tear from under my eye and crossed my arms around my chest. "Who did you get a text from last night?"
He sighed and rested his arm against the window frame of the car leaning his head against his palm. "What do you want from me?"
"Is this really something you want?" He glanced over at me and sighed. He reached out his hand and wiped the side of my cheek gently. "Yeah, cause if I didn't, I wouldn't be fighting you right now. You know me well enough."
I nodded and wrapped my hand around his palm. "Cameron, please don't break my heart." I allowed my head to fall from his hands and I leaned back into my seat.

"Kyra, I'm not - "
I pointed towards the wind shield.
I closed the door and made my way to the living room. Kyra was sleep in my bedroom and I wasn't tired. I was surprised she didn't leave after what happened earlier.
I'm trying to quit fucking up but it's all I ever seem to do. Kyra makes me want to change. I've just never had a girl like her. One that will leave at the drop of a dime and never look back once. There aren't many strikes with her.
"Hello?"
"Hey..." Her soft voice rang out.
"Hey, Leah." I said turning the TV on. I propped my feet up on the couch and got comfortable, my back resting against a throw pillow.
"Cam, we should hang out tonight. Bree went somewhere with a guy friend and I'm sure she won't be back till morning." She said with a cute little giggle. "The whole house would be ours for the night."
I released a sigh. "I can't Leah." I mumbled. "How about I come over?"
"Leah, I just said I can't."
She kissed her teeth. "Okay. Another time I guess. It's just that like you Cam... I don't want you to forget me so soon."
"Leah, I have a girlfriend." I confessed hoping she would back off a little.
"I don't care.. I want you."
I rolled my eyes to the back of my head. "I'm not cheating on her."
"Why did you even bother calling me over then?" She muttered.
"I thought you were nice. I ain't never threw a pass at you."
"Cam, any guy would kill for this opportunity."
I rubbed my hand over my face. "Leah, you don't deserve to be put in a predicament like that. Go find a nigga that deserves you."
She groaned. "Cam, I feel this chemistry between us that's undeniable. How long do you think, just friends is going to go until you admit that?"
"Until that's true, but until then, can you be down with how shit is now? Just be cool. I'm happy Leah and if you like me like you say you do, you would be happy for me and happy for a relationship that developed before you..."
"I can't do that. That isn't what I want. You asking me to spare her feelings and I've never even met her!"
I heard my door open which meant Kyra was awake.
"Leah, I gotta call you back." She kissed her teeth. "Cam are you kidding me right now?"
"I'll text you." I said hanging up as Kyra walked in the room.
She lazily plopped on my lap and brought her head down to kiss my lips. My tongue caressed hers as her hands rubbed around my neck soothingly.
"I'm not going to mess this up." I mumbled between kisses. "I'm not. I'm trying Kyra. I gotta get out of my old ways."

She pulled away and bit her bottom lip. I noticed she did that a lot. I hadn't figured out what it meant yet but I wasn't done trying to figure her out.
My phone rang and I slid the bar across the screen, pulling my hair up.
"Hello?"
"Hey, babe. It's Trey." I smiled. "Hey big head. You've been M.I.A."
He chuckled. "I know and I'm sorry. I figured you needed your space after all that shit happened so I waited to call." I nodded as if he could see me as I paced the kitchen in Cam's house.
"It's okay, what's up?"
"I - uh wanted to go to lunch. You down?" I smiled. "Sure, Im going to get dressed. Text me the info."
"Aight." He said before the phone went dead.
I exited the kitchen and walked down the hallway to Cam's room, pushing the door open. I grabbed my keys from his bedside drawer and my shoes, heading for the door. "Why you leaving?"
Cam sat up on the bed before rubbing his eyes. "Trey wants to meet for lunch."
He scoffed. "No."
I looked at him confused. "No, what?"
"No, you're not going." I laughed and waved him off. "Goodnight Cameron. I think you need to fall asleep and wake back up." I shut his door and made my down down the hall way just for him to open it back up.
"Why is he even calling you?"
"He's my bestfriend for crying out loud," I chuckled. "He's my Leah." I said sarcastically.
"That nigga likes you."
I gave him a bored expression. "Is that the kettle calling the pot back?"
"You doing this shit outta spite?"
I scoffed. "No, Cameron. Im telling you where I'm going and who I'm going with. I'm not you, I don't hide shit."
He sighed. "I don't want you to go anywhere with that nigga."
"It's good I don't care about what you want." I countered back.
"You so fucking aggervating. I swear."
I chuckled. "Then why are you still with me? You got bitches lined up."
"Cause, I like you."
He grabbed my waist and picked me up as we walked out of his apartment and down to mine. He pushed my door open and sat me and my bags down once we reached my room.
"Are you really strong, or am I just light?" He chuckled. "Both."
"Where is this nigga taking you?" I rolled my eyes. "Trey didn't tell me."
He threw his hands up in frustration as my phone buzzed. I walked over and picked it up glancing at my new text.
"We are going to Miabella's." I said walking in the bathroom and starting the shower before getting in.
I heard the door close and I let out a breath. He's so damn protective.
"That's Mexican?" I nodded. "Yeah."
"You already Mexican, you don't need to go," I rolled my eyes again. "I'm half Dominican," I corrected. "You already know that."
I finished up my shower and grabbed my towel before stepping out and going in my closet. I dried off and picked out a pair of jeans and a cute shirt with some sandals.
I felt Camerons hands slide over my stomach and I blushed. I hate that his touch does that to me. His hands were big and firm, but soft all at the same time.
"If that nigga try something imma beat the fuck out of him." I let out a laugh and turned around in his arm, my lips capturing his. "You're so possessive."
He kissed his teeth. "Nah, I ain't. I just know what I got." I smiled big making him smile.
"Have fun though, but not to much."
"You staying here?" He nodded and kissed my lips a few times almost making me want to stay and curl up in bed with my giant.
"Don't do this to me." He laughed and kissed my temple. "Go." He urged patting me butt.
I bit my lip and waved before leaving.
Trey pulled me into a hug and smiled before pulling my chair out.
"You look gorgeous." I blushed. "Thanks Trey, you look nice too."
"Damn, I missed you girl!"
I laughed. "We needed some space and now were back Trey. I just want you to accept things the way they are."
He nodded. "I'm good, I can't push you."
I bit my lip, instantly becoming uncomfortable. "Yeah, sorry."
"Its good! Don't sweat it. How you been Ky?" I smiled. "I'm happy Trey."
"With old dude from down the hall right?" I sighed. "Yep."
He nodded. "He treating you right? Kaylen said he an asshole."
I chuckled and sip from my glass of wine. "He's great."
He chuckled. "Or is that what you want me to believe?" I kissed my teeth. "What's with the third degree about my relationship? I said we are good," I spat harshly. "I like him;he doesn't smother me."
His face fell and I instantly felt horrible. He nodded, finishing off his burger.
"Good. Happy for you."
I nodded hesitantly, wishing this awkward ness would end soon.
"How's your dad?"
I smiled. "Good, were getting along. He calls and we FaceTime sometimes when I call Noni."
"You two finally talked. That's good."
I nodded. This conversation was so forced and dry but it was only because we hadn't been hanging out.
"I met this girl the other day," he said. "She seems cool but I don't know her yet."
I nodded. "That's great Trey."
We paid for our meals and made our way out. We said our goodbyes and I made my way back home.
"How was your date?" Cam asked when I walked in. I sat my purse down and crawled into his lap. "Could have been better."
I sighed and snuggled into his body, closing my eyes.

While not my first time writing, this is my first time throwing anything I've written at the tender mercies of the internet. All criticisms welcome. 2.) Just to inform people early: There is no evil corporation looking to control the world with VR, there is no Krueger-esque "if you die in the game, you die for real.", and this isn't a story of some OP harem-loving god of the system. Nothing wrong with those stories this just isn't one. This is a simple story about a guy playing a game and finally 3.) This story is extremely rough, i did very little editing, this is just me gauging interest really. oh, and English is my 1st language, if for some reason you find that important. Note 2) from now on Book 1 will exist in its entirety on Royal Road while Books 2 and 3 (and any others) will be released on Amazon. I want to thank everyone who has been reading and has taken this weird journey with me. I will continue to write in my spare time and will always be thankful to Royal Road for giving me a space to be creative. Thank you to everyone.

Parental Controls
Reeve Williams always felt more at home in vivid virtual reality than in drab real reality, partly as an escape from the very real embarrassment of her technically inept parents, Walter and Wanda. When Reeve’s parents give her a new total-immersion virtual reality system for her birthday, Reeve reluctantly agrees to show them what it’s like…just for a few minutes. But a mistake only her technophobe father would make leaves Reeve facing the prospect of spending months in the greatly accelerated, fantastically complex, brutally unforgiving game world. With her parents. Posts will be every M/W/F. If I ever decide to try to turn Parental Controls into an ebook, I won't do so in such a way that I'd need to take down what I've posted to Royal Road. Thanks for reading!
