Hello and welcome to the next cycle of the Lost Dreams Book Club!
We are ready to get started with the new cycle and we hope you are, too! Below you will find this week's groups. If we haven't found a group for you yet, you are on the waitlist. We'll make sure to group you up as soon as we can.
We are always looking for members. If you have any friends that might be interested, please don't hesitate to direct them our way!
To make sure everything runs smoothly, here is a quick overview of what you'll need to do:
- The assignment is to read 3 chapters of each partner's book over the next 2 weeks. The deadline for this is . The next update will be the next Sunday; .
- Remember to give the best feedback you can. Be specific.
- When you've finished your assignment, report to us with what you've read in this chapter. This should look a bit like this: Three chapters read of Speaker's Way; last chapter read: chapter 24, and three chapters read of The Root of Magic; last chapter read: chapter 24. Let us know when you've finished your partner's book!
- Remember to talk to your group members. If you want to read more than the required 6 chapters per 2 weeks, talk to your partners to see if they want this too. If one of you has a book that's shorter than the others', see if you can fix this by letting your partners read a second book of yours once they finish the first one.

When you've worked a lifetime as an engineer for home appliances, naturally, you go with the option that has more toasters. Soon, Flora finds out that the virtual world is more familiar than she thought. Though, it takes her a while to get used to the idea that tanks don't hold water or oil but the aggro of mobs. 8 130The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.

Thrown into the midst of conflict, Jaxon Ward will have to come to terms with what it means to be human in this new world. Brought out of what this world calls the tempering cycle, he finds that everything he knew about reality was a lie. He is now a citizen of Human Empire, a small but consolidated power on the fringes of a much larger intergalactic playing field. As a member of the fifth and final wave of The Guards of Gaia, Jaxon and his peers are saddled with the hopes of the masses, who seek to find shelter in the coming storm. However, finding safety in this new world won't be easy, when even Gods and Demons are terrified of what lurks just beyond the veil.
8 121Rabid Animals, Fantastic!
After an apocalyptic end to WWII, the remnants of the world have grown strange. Our current story is set in Paris, where a violinist named Loren Dames who preaches political activism is going to be throwing a large concert in the city and gets a strange note warning him of a target on his head by a mysterious hitman named Jackal. At the same time, a group of revolutionary anarchist terrorists decide this violinist needs to be taught a lesson, while a shady cabal pays a group of assassins to take out Dames themselves. Finally, a selfish woman wants to make Dames her sugar daddy, and a mysterious man with a wolf tattoo shows up. All of this convoluted mess plays out in the streets, and nobody will ever forget the epic night that awaits them. WARNING: This is a sequel to Kidnapping, Fantastic!, and while the stories have no relation to each other other than a few characters, your reading experience will be far greater if you finish that first. Thank you!
8 181Children of The Dead Earth.
June is dead. That's fine. Everyone else is dead as well. Not a single living human is alive. All seven billion plus people died in the opening shot of an alien invasion. Don't worry, the aliens got theirs. Turns out if you kill seven billion people you get a LOT of angry ghosts. Now June's trying to negotiate her new unlife, make friends and oh... Deal with the potential end of not just the earth, but the Memory Lands. No Pressure.
8 214The Garbage Man
2021/10/20 - Taking this down for a complete rewrite. I like the plot but the writing on the first attempt is... Garbage :/ Jack was just waiting for the storm to pass. It wouldn't. What it did was take him on the journey of a lifetime. A lot of lifetimes, in fact. This is a cultivation/wuxia story at its core. May contain young masters, martial arts and magic. * 14/08/2020 - Rough editing done on the published chapters, hooray! Now to resume normal - edited! - releases.
