*Justin's POV*
Two weeks later, we have a meeting with all of Paul's doctors. Mom, Dad,Stephen, Jonathan, Ava, Mom and I all were there. I made sure he has the best doctors there is. We all piled into the conference room at the front end of the table were all four of his doctors. Their names are Doctor Haney, Doctor Price, Doctor Gregor and Doctor Vincent.
"All four of us have worked hard to find the main problem of Paul getting better." Doctor Haney began. " It is his heart that is the main problem." He finished.
"If his heart gets better than we could work on a recovery from the heart attack and stroke." Doctor Vincent told us.
"What can we do to get his heart working better?" Mom asked the doctors. They all four looked at each other and then back at us.
"There is a heart surgery we can do, but it could end very badly." Doctor Gregor told us.
"What do you mean?" I asked them. They better not say what I think they'll say.
"There are two possibilities of what can happen because of this surgery." Doctor Price said. None of my family said anything, we already knew what they were going to say. "Paul could either male this surgery and recover or he couldn't. This could be fatal." He finished. I looked over at mom and she looked at the doctors in shock.
"Could we have a moment alone to decide what we're going to do?" I asked the doctors. They all nodded and left the room. When they left that's when mom broke down.
"He can't leave me. Not yet." She sobbed. I held her close as she cried. She soon calmed down.
"Mom, we need to figure out what we're going to do." I said.
"I don't know what to do." She said quietly. I sighed and looked at her. Suddenly dad spoke up.
"I think we should do the surgery. If it's God's will to take him then it is, but if it's not then he will make it." He said. We all looked at mom, waiting for an answer.
She sighed and nodded her head, " Okay." She said quietly. Dad got the doctors and they came back in.
"The surgery can be done." I told them.
"Are you sure?" Doctor Gregor asked us. I looked at mom and she slowly nodded.

"Yes." I nodded. All four of the doctors nodded their heads.
"We'll do the surgery tomorrow." Doctor Price told us. We all silently nodded and left the room.
"Ava and I are going to go home for a little bit, but we'll be back soon." I told my family. They all nodded and her and I left. We stayed silent in the elevator and all the way to the car. When we got in I got in the driver's seat and she got in the passenger seat. I looked forward and stared o it the windshield in silence.
Why him? Why does he have to be in that hospital bed? What if he doesn't make it out of this surgery, alive?
I then screamed and punched the steering wheel. I looked over at Ava, who had tears streaming down her face.
"I'm sorry." I cried. She wiped away my tears and kissed me softly on the lips.
"No, I'm sorry." She said. I gave her a small smile and wiped away her tears.
"I love you." I said quietly.
"I love you more." She said back to me. We kissed one last time before I drove us to the apartment. I went to the kitchen while she went to the bedroom. She told me she was going to change her clothes. I was making sandwich when I heard heels tapping on the floor as the sound came closer to me. I turned around and saw Ava wearing nothing, but the heels.
"Holy Shit." I said. She laughed and smiled at me. She turned away and walked towards our bedroom. She walked inside while I still stood in the kitchen in shock. Damn! My wife's hot! She peaked her head out of the doorway and looked at me.
"You wanna make a baby or nah?" She grinned.
"Hell yeah!" I grinned. As I ran down the hallway I took my shirt off and ran into the room. I saw Ava laying on our bed with the biggest grin on her face.
"Get over here sexy." She grinned. I grinned and climbed onto the bed.
Let's just say, we both had an amazing time.
"Alright let's go back to the hospital." I sighed. We laid in bed together, snuggling with eachother. She sighed and I kissed her. "C'mon, Jimmy and I will find some way to make it fun." I told her. She laughed and we got out of the bed.

Soon we were back at the hospital. Everyone was there, surprisingly they all were laughing.
"What's so funny?" I asked them.
"Jimmy told us about Vegas." Dad chuckled. I glared at Jimmy and he laughed.
"I needed a good story!" He laughed.
"Oh I have a lot of Jimmy stories." I said.
"Justin." He said.
"To late Fallon." I smirked. Ava and I sat down and I began the story.
"So I was twenty one and Jimmy was twenty six. He couldn't make it to my birthday party,so he took me out to a bunch of clubs in New York. I didn't get drunk that night because I was the smart one,but Jimmy on the other hand wasn't so smart." I said.
"Are you seriously telling this story?" Jimmy sighed.
"Yes now let me finish!" I said. Jimmy sighed and I began telling my story again. "So anyway Jimmy was so drunk. I didn't trust him to be home by himself,so I drove us to my apartment. I had to carry him into the apartment, that's how drunk he was. While I was carrying him I'm the house he was singing my song Cry me a River." I finished. Everyone was laughing while Jimmy hung his head low in shame.
"Was he good?" Jamie asked me.
"Oh God no, he was so off key." I chuckled.
"C'mon I was drunk! Cut me some slack!" Jimmy sighed.
"What about the time I went into labor?" Nancy laughed.
"That was so funny!" I laughed.
"What happened?" Ava asked.
"Justin,Nancy and I were sitting in our apartment watching a movie. It was a scary one. A scary part came and we all screamed, but Nancy kept on screaming. I was like Nancy it's alright. Then she was like I think the baby's coming! Justin and I were running around trying to get everything and call everyone. It was hilarious. Justin fell down the last five stairs of the stairs that led to the downstairs part of our apartment building." Jimmy laughed.
"Justin how could you fall?" Ava asked me.
"I was carrying a lot of stuff!" I laughed. They all laughed again.
"But then we got Nancy safely to the hospital and Winnie came along." Jimmy smiled.
"On the way there it wasn't very safe. Jimmy was hyperventilating while he was driving and that was making Nancy nervous. So I calmed both of you down. Where would you be without me?" I said. Everyone laughed.
"Justin to the rescue!" Jimmy laughed.
"That's right." I smiled.
*Ava's POV*
Listening to these stories they're telling is so much fun! They're so funny!
"I'm going to go to the restroom." Lynn said. She got up from her chair and walked out of the waiting room to the restroom.
Fifteen minutes later, she never came back.
"I'm going to go check on Lynn." I said. I went to the restroom and walked in. I heard quiet sniffles coming from a closed stall.
"Lynn?" I asked. She then walked out of the stall with red puffy eyes."Are you okay?" I asked her.
"Yeah I'm fine." She nodded.
"Lynn, you can talk to me." I said.
"I just can't deal with all of this." She cried. I hugged her as she cried. "What if he doesn't make it? I can't lose him yet." She said to me.
"We are going to figure everything out. You will not go through this alone. Okay?" I said. She nodded her head and I handed her a tissue. "Can I tell you a story?" I asked her. She nodded her head.
"When I was fourteen my grandpa passed away. Him and I were very close. He was in ICU for three weeks. Everyday for those three weeks I was there. I felt like I had to be there. My family and I took care of my grandma for my grandpa. I promised him I would. If anything happens to Paul, we will take care of you. Okay? You can even move in with Justin and I." I said. She smiled at the end of my story. She hugged me tightly.
"Thank you Ava for everything." She said.
"Of course. You are my mother in law after all." I smiled. She began fixing her make up. "Now you wanna go back out there?" I asked her when she was finished. She smiled and nodded her head.
"Yeah." She smiled. I smiled and we walked out of the bathroom and back to the waiting room.
"Everything alright?" Justin asked me when I sat next to him.
"Yeah." I nodded. "Every thing's fine." I smiled.

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
