I sighed and forced Seonghwa to sit on the bed. I locked the door and crossed my arms. "Tell me what's wrong". I said and Seonghwa looks at his hands. "Th-that man is dangerous". Seonghwa whispers. "Hun... I don't know what the danger is if you don't tell me". I said softly. "But...". "I'm going to be alright, I promise". I said.
Seonghwa looks up at me and I gave him a smile. "Now tell me". I put my hands on my hips and Seonghwa giggles. "Is he some type of criminal or something?". I asked. "No". Seonghwa says. "So, how do you know he's dangerous?". I ask. "He caused all the crime". Seonghwa says. "Crime?". I tilted my head.
"What are you...". My eyes widened. "He did all that!?!". I yelled. "Cause I didn't meet him!?!". I shout and pinched my nose. "So what? He's a gang leader or something?". I chuckled but Seonghwa didn't. "Oh my god... I fucked a gang leader". I said and grabbed my throat. "He's going to fucking kill me". I sniffed.
"N-no!". Seonghwa shouts. "Eh?". I looked at him. "He likes you... I think". Seonghwa rubs his chin. "I just want sex!". I yell. "Fuck feelings!". I dropped to my knees. "That's probably why he didn't tell me his name". I said. "What the hell did I get myself into?". I covered my mouth. "Do-don't be scared Jimin". Seonghwa says. "I didn't mean to scare you".
"I'm not scared". I told him. "I'm just... A little frightened". I said. "What's the difference?". Seonghwa ask. "Letters". I replied. "Wait... Is that why you didn't want me to touch you? You didn't want to see what happens to me?". I asked and Seonghwa bit his lip. "Do I really have this dangerous aura around me?". I asked.

"I really do make you sick". I smiled sadly. "I did... ". Seonghwa slaps me and I looked at him. "If anyone was to blame it's my family! Not you!". Seonghwa shouts. "How dare you blame yourself for something you have no control over!". Seonghwa yells. "I... ". "I don't want your sorry Jimin, don't blame yourself... Please".
I gave Seonghwa a teary smile and nodded my head. "Ok, I'm sorry". I said. "Idiot". Seonghwa plunks my forehead and hugs me. "I'm fine". Seonghwa said. I hummed and hugged him back. "But... Umm...". Seonghwa gulps. "What?". I said and Seonghwa broke the hug.
"That man is pissed".

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The Blood Queen
The rain fell from the sky with ferocity and smashed into the pavement filling the air with the sound of a stampede. The noise was deafening as I struggled to stand up. The blood from my wound was covering the ground beneath me and I covered it with my hand as I pushed off the pavement. On my feet now I struggled to step towards the grass. Through the howling wind and pounding raindrops I could hear what sounded like a chant, calling me and drawing me towards the cliffs edge. "Vienna, my Queen, my blood Queen" I started to move my feet faster until I could run towards the edge. Only when I was at the edge did I turn and look back one last time at the castle behind me. I could see him standing on the balcony, he was screaming my name. I could just hear it over the rain. I unclipped my red cape and whispered goodbye to him. As he jumped off the balcony to run towards me I leaned backwards and let my body fall with the rushing water to the river far down below. I carried her whispers with me to the dark edge until they vanished.
