《System Holders》Chapter 2

"What do you mean he has a system?". Jack was blown away by this fact, does that mean his dog can speak like a person?
"When Systems first come in place, it is also possible for a system to go to a pet. However, these systems are different. They allow pets to turn into monsters, meaning they can be tamed by a Tamer and evolution can occur".
Jack paused for a moment, and before progressing he suggested to everyone to look at their status window.
"Before we move onto Max. Let's just look at our status window". Everyone nodded their head in unison.
"Wait how do we activate these status windows?". Carl asked in an actually polite manner. For once in his life he realises the gravity of the situation and the importance to listen.
"Just say status window in your head". Zeon replied urging them to use their status window.
Jack: Age 17
Class: Mage
Class Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Barrier(F+)
Skills: Fireball(F)
System Type: Informatant (Zeon)
System Level: D-
What does barrier do? Although I play a lot of video games I've never seen a status window like this before. Usually there are stats like strength and intelligence. Well I guess it's not a video game so it doesn't work like that?
"Can everyone write their status window on a piece of paper so I can see what to do?". Jack leaned towards his family and asked a pretty basic question.
Everyone grabbed a pen and started writing their status windows down. Adam was the first one who was done, although it seemed a bit rushed.
Adam: Age 21
Class: Swordsman
Class Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Electrical Manipulation(E-)
Skills: Slash (F+)
System Type: Physicalist (Leo)
System Level: F+
"Adam, why do you have Electrical Manipulation as a skill? Is it because you're an electrician?".
"Yeah it is, problem with that?". The bird stared directly at Jack, almost looking to fight.
"Uh no, there isn't a problem aha". Jack tried laughing it off.
Carl followed, then my Mother and Father.

Carl: Aged 14
Class: Tamer
Class Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Blink(D-)
Skills: Slingshot Proficiency(F-), Befriendment(E+)
System Type: Weaponist (Lamb)
System Level: F+
Jill: Aged 43
Class: Healer
Class Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Crucify(F+)
Skills: Rejuvenation(E-)
System Type: Mentalist (Evie)
System Level: E
Matthew: Aged 45
Class: Warrior
Class Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Taunt(F+)
Skills: Strengthen(E+)
System Type: Physicalist (Ball)
System Level: E+
I flicked through their sheets of paper with the status windows on them, and it seems like I have a firm grasp on what to do.
"It seems that Dad is the tank, Mum is the healer, Carl is range and Adam is the main damage dealer". With this Adam puffed his chest up as he thought he was being complimented.
"However, I'm still unsure about what to do with Carl since he has 2 skills and his inherited ability seems a bit.. strange".
Blink. What does that even entail? It's such a weird sounding ability. Does it have something to do with his eyes, or does he have a flash ability making him teleport from one place to another? There's just too much to consider. We haven't even asked about the Tutorial Towers yet and why we need abilities in the first place. But Carl's a Tamer. Therefore does it mean that Max is tamable? Most likely right? Especially since he has a 'Befriendment' ability. Looking through it again. I seem to the be the useless one, along with my Dad.
"Zeon, what do the letters next to the abilities signify?". Jack shifted his direction from the sheets to Zeon next to floating next to him.
"Well, it means multiple things. It means how strong your ability is and it also means how much of an understanding you have with it. However, just because your ability is F, that just means you have to focus on the ability more. Usually, abilities with a low grade signifies that it's flexible and can be used in different ways, and because of that you need to figure it out to unlock more of the ability - however thats if you're an optimist, it's very likely that it's just a useless ability. That's all I can say at the moment since you haven't even entered the Tutorial Tower, and I'm currently only level D-. ".

Again, I lagged in time processing everything Zeon said. Everything he said made a lot of sense. Especially the fact about the ability grades. Barrier seems to be a very ambiguous word. Usually it would have connotations to making a wall to block some form of attack, but what if it was an offensive ability instead? That's very plausible.
"Um, sorry to interrupt. But please can you allow Carl to tame the dog now? It's important since Max might decide his evolution on his own by accident". A voice out of nowhere interrupted Jack's thought proccess. He looked where the voice came from at it came from Carls system. Despite it's outward appearance being that of a spikey black ball, it seems rather timid.
"Uh sure, but Carl do you know how to use your skills?".
"He should be fine. If it really comes down to it I can just force him to use it by activating the ability". The spikey ball answered in a nice tone. It was rather soothing listening to it speak.
Carl didn't say anything. He walked up to Max, petted it's head and a light flashed from it. Max didn't yelp in pain at all, in fact he got quite giddy and starting jumping up and down. He was still a dog, however apparently Carl got a notification.
"Congratulations on Taming your first Monster. Please name it." The notification popped up infront of Carls eyes.
"Max. Keep it Max, he's still the same dog as before.".
"You are now in control of Max, you are able to open up a status window for him".
Carl opened up the status window almost immediately.
Max: Aged 8
Level: 1
Species: Dog (Evolution possible)
Species Advancements: Zero
Inherited Skills: Nothing - Will gain one when he has a first evolution.
Skills: Bite(F)
"Guys, it says evolution is possible for Max, how do I evolve him?". Carl asked the room, specifically looking towards Zeon.
"It's a pretty simple concept. Just say 'Evolve Max' in your head and you will get notifications and the list of possible evolutions.
Carl did what he was told and Max started glittering. Jack cringed internally as this reminded him of Pokemon.
Possible Evolutions:
Shadow Dog - Like the name suggests, the dog focuses on magic and shadows.
Werewolf - Large dog which has physical dominance.
Wolfhound - Flexible as it is much more faster than the rest, however lacks in magic and physical.
"Uhh what option do I pick? Shadow Dog, Werewolf or Wolfhound?". This question didn't really go to a specific person, he was asking everybody.
"Carl, it's your choice. As Tamer entails, I assume it means you will be the one controlling them in battles and it's up to you to level them up. For once, the responsibility is on you". His Mother replied, giving him a sense of responsibility.
"I'll choose Shadow Dog then. I like playing fantasy games and a well rounded team usually is the best, since we don't have much magic damage since Jack is a useless shithead". Carl started laughing at himself thinking he was hilarious.
"Aye! Don't swear". Jill acted swiftly and whacked him on the side of his head. Whilst this was happening, Max's appearance shifted.
He still had ginger ears and light brown fur, the only thing that changed was his size got bigger and was now the size of a Beagle, so still small. Instead, he has black clouds surrounding him and his status window changed.
Max: Aged 8
Level: 1
Species: Shadow Dog
Species Advancements: One
Inherited Skills: Shadow Clouds (F)
Skills: Crunch(E)
Carl and Max both ran up to eachother and started hugging eachother. Because now Max was officially his own, their bond grew and ended up being closer together.
