《Shifters Reborn》Chapter 10: O'Brian's Promise

Boom!
Lars found himself standing in the middle of a city burning from a fiery explosion. As the embers drifted through the air he heard a woman laughing in the distance.
"HEehhe HAHAHAH!" She laughed
Lars could hear her but he couldn't see her.
"The light of the father shines brightly within you..." A voice whispered.
"Noooo!" Lars yelled waking up in a room of white.
He was in a white room, but not quite like the one from his dreams with the old man. This one had blue and yellow tiles every now and then as well as the letters SPA written on the wall. Squinting his eyes he peered out the window to get a better sense of where he was.
"NOOOO WAYYY!!!!" He said, rubbing his eyes.
Jumping out of his bed, he ran to the window, pushing the blinds open so he could see the view in full.
The sight was so unbelievable. For a moment he thought was dreaming. It was as If he had time traveled 1000 years into the future. Up in the sky he saw flying cars, flying trains, even flying people! He gazed in absolute amazement at the booming futuristic metropolis's flashing lights and advanced technology.
The people flying, or better put floating were too much for Lars to take in. They casually walked off the edge of buildings crossing to the next building on invisible sidewalks. It was the most ridiculous thing he had ever seen. There were large platforms where people were getting on and off of train stations that were perched on top of buildings.
The whole scene made no sense at all, especially the people.
They didn't look like shifters. Instead of neon colors they all had regular hair colors, in shades of black brown or blond, and it wasn't growing in nearly the same proportions he saw in his class. These people also had eyes that did not match their hair!

"What's going on here?" He thought.
Lars placed his hands on his head and was about to scream before a familiar voice caught him.
"They're called humans" He heard from behind him.
Lars Spun around to see O'brian waiting for him patiently.
"This world has humans?" Lars asked.
"Yes, and although they look unnatural to you, to them you would look equally displeasing, what is it do you mean by this world?" O'brian asked.
"I meant this city!" Lars said, scratching his head. "If they are just humans, why can they fly everywhere? I thought humans don't have powers!"
"That's thanks to a technology called the EB or electronic barrier."
"Electronic what?"
"It's an implant they receive as a child that emits a thin barrier of ether around their skin and allows them to interact with the environment. The flying you are seeing takin gplace is their EB interacting with a small barrier placed between buildings. The frequencies of the two bump into each other causing enough force for them to be suspended in midair, walking on it like an invisible bridge."
"Wow that's amazing."
"Yes it is! The trains and cars work in a similar fashion but are much more complicated! Once you have been cleared from the hospital you can schedule a tour ."
"YAHHOOO I can't wait to show.."
Lars paused. For a second there was a piece of him that he had forgotten. Almost as if he had woken up from the hospital missing an organ. He grabbed his chest trying to soothe the emotions, reassuring himself it was there.
"WAIT A MINUTE WHERE IS MY SISTER!!" He shouted.
"Please there is no need for such outbursts…." O'brian said, taking a seat. "It is rather late in the day, so she was escorted home. Which you will be sent as soon as I tell Medical you have woken up. In the meantime you have a visitor waiting outside."

"Well send him in!" Lars exclaimed.
"Well I'll be damned!" Colonel Grant said, walking into the room.
"You've actually got some spunk in you kid!" Grant said. "We'll make an agent out of you yet!
"Yes indeed," O'brian said."I believe he would make an excellent addition to the exams." O'brian said
"Exams?" Lars asked.
"You want him in the exams? He can barely control his powers" Grant grumbled..
"Yes but you undoubtedly see his potential? Why else would you be here?" O'brian jived. "I can always go over your head and bring the Master general into this? Or maybe Hq?"
"Why do you care about this kid?" Grant asked. "He's 250 in his class of 250! Why are you suddenly interested in him?"
"What can I say," O'Brian said as his glasses flashed. " Lets just say I promised someone I would look after this one."
"You making promises?" Grant laughed. "Save it, if your going to lie atleast try a little harder than that."
"Ha," O'Brian laughed. "I find it extremely humorous that only when I tell the truth do you not believe me."
"Whatever" Grant grumbled. "Fine! But as far as training goes he's your problem! And I will personally test him and the other freshmen you want to enter into this bloodbath!" Grant said leaving the room. "And kid! Don't get to cocky cause you threw a punch! It takes alot more than that to become an agent!"
Lars looked up at O'brian, unsure of exactly what was happening.
"What exams are you talking about?" Lars asked
"The S.P.A exams" O'brian said. "The tests that will determine if you become an agent, Usually you need to wait two years after becoming a cadet, but I think entire this group now would be beneficial for S.P.A"
"Really! Awesome! When do we start?" Lars said.
"There is no we," O'brian said getting up. "The exams will start in one month, until then do your best to brush up on your fundamentals, it will be Grant testing you after all, not me."
"Awesome!" Lars said, tightening his fists. "I bet I'll see that kid there."
(Axel remembered) "Axel" Lance said as he walked away. "At the S.P.A exams" he said, stopping briefly. "I'll beat you senseless for that nonsense you just sputtered out!"
"I can't wait!" He said nearly jumping out of his hospital bed
O'brian left the hospital wing walking with a white haired boy beside him.
"Do you mean it?" The boy asked early "I get to join the S.P.A?"
"A promise is a promise" O'brian answered "As of tomorrow you'll be joining, and in a month's time you can enter the exams with your so-called friend," O'brian said.
"Awesome!" The boy said gleefully He looked at the ground nervously twiddling his fingers.
"What is it 619?" O'brian asked.
"Umm… how do friends greet each other?" the boy asked.
"I don't know," O'brian answered as his glasses went dark. "I've never had a friend."
"But what about the friend you want me to help you find?" 619 asked.
"I've actually never met him before" Obrian said. "I'm hoping he will become my first friend."

Ocean Attuned - A timeloop LitRPG
In the mids of industrialization, Liana, a girl of almost twelve, awakens her flow and follows her newly awakened calling, the ocean, and thus the path of the last remaining god. With the advent of industry, one's status and the accompanying skills slowly grow to be secondary as people choose more recreational skills and classes. The clear exception are flow bringers. Humans with an increased affinity towards flow and attunements are the only real remnants of the age of gods and mysticism. Terrors on the battlefield, saints in hospitals, saviours during drought, are just some examples of the wonderous abilities they display. As civilization grows less dangerous so does the stress that is often associated with the awakening of the flow reduce and only the real talents remain. Please be aware that this is a first draft at best. Tag/Genre analysis: Action: A theme that will appear in the story at some point (probably 15+ chapters in) Adventure: Yes Fantasy: Yes Magic, Beasts, and other fantastical elements are totally at home here. Tragedy: Life is not always fun. For what is fun when there are no downsides. I don't know how heavily I am going to lean into this genre. I want to but don't expect too much. Loop: Yes, though I will not divulge anything else. Just be aware that there isn't nearly as much looping as in MoL for example. Female Lead: Yes, Liana is female. Dungeon: Yes, there are dungeons. Yes, they will get explored. LitRPG: Yes, read the first chapter if you want an example. Magic: most definitely because who doesn't like calling lighting down from the heavens. (Disclaimer: No actual lightning will be called down from the heavens) Mythos: There are gods. So maybe, I don't know if that is enough to qualify? Progression: yes Slice of Life: There is plot, and the story will mostly be about that plot, but there will also be downtime because there can't always be action. The first "loop" especially the first 20-30 chapters will be heavily SoL. And afterward there will be a lot less. Profanity: The ocean (see title) includes sailors and we all know how the stereotypical sailor is. Gore: Hmmm, some but I will have it be not graphic at all.

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
