《Vengeance in a Broken World》Chapter 4- The Plaza of death
Advertisement
Hur’flin is a goblin. He is not to be mistaken to a lesser goblin though. If he heard the mistake, he would flay whoever suggested such a thing alive. The tribe put him in charge of a small group of lesser goblins, about nine of them. There are also three normal goblins in his group.
Crunch! Hur’flin finally reaches the bone on an arm he has been eating. He is so glad that the goblins came into wherever they came to. His group got placed right next to a large group of tasty treats. He thinks they are called humans, but he can’t care less to remember. All he knows is that they taste amazing. Nothing like the filthy taste of other goblins and the especially rancid taste of lesser goblins. As he thinks back on what he ate, he realizes that there was one creature that was especially succulent. One of the tiny apes tasted so much sweeter than the rest of them. Hur’flin thinks it might have to do with the fear the creature was feeling as he dined on it alive along with the other three goblins.
He throws the bare arm bone away, smacking one of the lesser goblins in the face. The creature starts squealing at him, but Hur’flin doesn’t care. He would just as rather have all of the lesser goblins be dead then take care of them. He, like most of the Gob family, absolutely despises the lesser goblins. They think that the lesser goblins are a blight on the Gob family, one that should be erased. That’s why they alway force the lesser goblins to attack first.
Hur’flin burps loudly and stands up. Around him are dozens of bodies of the tasty treats. Usually, the goblins would capture the females alive when they come across such creatures, but this didn’t happen. Since the group under Hur’flin, including his esteemed self, was hungry, he made the decision to kill all the weird bipedal monkeys for food. It is unfortunate that he couldn’t secure incubators for his tribe, but there is always next time!
He grabs a spear that was resting at his feet as he stands up. One of the other goblins screeches at him. Only a goblin can understand another’s screeches. The goblin is basically saying, ‘where do you think you are going?’
Hur’flin screeches back at the goblin and points to the hallway outside of the room they are in. The other goblin flaps his arm at him and resumes his feast.
Hur’flin makes his way out of the room and into the hallway. After a good feast, he always walks around for a little bit. It helps him clear room so that he can eat more of the tasty creatures that his group slaughtered.
He waltzes around the hallway cheerfully. Since the rest of his tribe has split into groups to conquer this stone castle that they found themselves in, he doesn’t have to worry about the apes being anywhere. His tribe is strong, so defeat is nearly impossible.
Hur’flin feels the urge to chuckle when he thinks about how easily they conquered the stone castle. The apes were completely defenseless against their invasion. A few of them acted, but they were all put down easily. He found their actions odd though. For some reason, a group of the apes kept pointing L shaped black and gray boxes at him like they would hurt him. At first, Hur’flin was fearful of the L boxes, but after he noticed that they didn’t do anything, he couldn’t be happier. Instead of attacking the goblins, the apes kept toying with the L boxes. This led to the goblins being able to easily kill them.
Especially that one ape that was hiding. He had run to the L box like it would save him. Hur’flin savors the memory of how his spear pierced the treat’s eye. Almost all of the goblins got in a stab or two, furthering their bloodlust. It’s too bad that the rest of the primates are all dead due to the hands of his tribe since he wishes he could hunt more.
Hur’flin trips over something. With fright, he jumps away from it and points his spear towards the object. Once he scents what it is, he laughs at himself. On the floor in front of him are two of the dead apes. He can tell they are dead because they are covered in blood. The left one is a completely white female, almost like she was drained of color. The lump on the right is a male with weird circles over his eyes. Hir’flin thinks it’s a shame that the white woman died. She looks so bueatiful and exoctic he is sure that she would’ve been good at giving birth to his young.
Hur’flin turns around and looks around the hallway for the goblins that killed the two primates. Once he realizes there is nobody around, he can’t help but feel excited. Afterall, now he gets two tasty treats all by himself! Best of all, he doesn’t have to tell the rest of the group about them!
He turns around, back to the tasty treats on the ground. Before he realizes what is happening, a spear flies through space, exploding his right eyeball as it enters his brain. His eye jelly spills out of his skull once the spear is withdrawn. The liquid drips down, flowing over his nose and to the floor...
[Goblin killed: 5 points]
[Points: 5. Stealth Multiplier: x2]
[Total Points: 40]
‘So does the solo modifier only count if I fight more than one of them by myself at a time? Also, what is the point of the points? Should I try to get as many as I can?’
Mercy quickly pulls the spear out of the dead goblin’s head. Unlike the lesser goblins, this one was an actual goblin. The only difference she noticed between the two is that the goblins had a more orangey shade then the lesser goblins. They also seem just a little bit bigger. Instead of coming to just above her belly button like the lesser goblins, the goblin is as tall as her breast.
Mercy almost jumped up right away when the goblin tripped over her, but she stayed still, letting it pass. As soon as it turned around, she jumped up and stabbed it. Fortunately for her, the goblin turned at the perfect time to have his eye replaced with her wooden spear. It was an instant kill.
She flicks her scarlet hair out of her face as a trail of rancid liquid crosses her cheek. Her plan was simple. They found some of the other dead bodies and rolled in their blood. Yes, it is extremely gruesome, but Mercy figured it is the only way to sneak around quietly. Tyler refused at first, but agreed once she told him she would leave if he didn’t. Afterall, nobody wants to be alone with monsters running around.
The other bloody lump stands up behind her, armed with a steel shield. She gave the shield to Tyler because it would be easier to block than dodge for him. He hasn’t trained to fight, so his instincts aren’t quite as good. To be fair though, they are better than most since her group just sat there, waiting to die. Tyler whispers quietly, “What is the plan? The exit is through the statue hall, but there are nine lesser goblins and three other goblins. Your blood idea got us this far, but we will have to kill them eventually.” They had tried the other exits, but they were all covered with the moving tar, not allowing them to leave. Tyler said that since this seemed almost like a game, the exit would probably be the main exit. Alos, breaking the windows didn’t work. They tried everything, but the windows just wouldn’t break.

Mercy looks around, trying to come up with a plan. The only thing nearby in the hall is the doorway. It is made up of two pillars sticking out of the wall that support the top of the frame. ‘That leaves twelve, with three being stronger than the other nine. What to do… the doorway only lets two people stand shoulder to shoulder, so maybe we could pull them to a choke point? That would get rid of them trying to flank us. The only problem is that we could get hurt very easily…wait... could we do that? No way it would work?’
Mercy gives out her plan, “Okay, so here's how it will go…”
Tur’flin, the goblin that is second in charge, snorts as blood pours out of his nose. He had fallen asleep and one of the goblins had thrown a corpse over his face, filling his orifices.
Tur’flin stretches, and looks around. He instantly notices that Hur’flin hasn’t come back yet. He knows that Hur’flin likes to exercise after eating, that wackjob, but he should be back since his ‘exercise’ is usually just a minute long walk.
He screeches at the other two goblins in the group. Both of them screech back, filling him in that they don’t know where Hur’flin is. A pebble hits one of the doorways into the plaza, frightening the useless scum- lesser goblins nearby.
Tur’flin thinks for a second before an idea enters his mind. A wonderful, greedy idea. With Hur’flin gone, that makes Tur’flin in charge. A smile shapes his slightly orange snout into a curve that looks more like a snarl.
He again screeches, though this time it is an order to group. He orders all the goblins and their lessers to go out and investigate what the disturbance was. His order is to find their beloved leader. In actuality, Tur’flin wants them gone so that he will have more to eat by himself.
The little under twelve group leaves into the hall. Once Tur’flin is sure that they are gone, he does a happy jig. In an instant he races towards a corner of the room. While nobody was watching during the original slaughter, he had hidden a treasure. After pulling up a couple of goblin corpses and digging through their revolting intestines, the treat reveals itself. Tur’flin can’t wait as he grabs the small ape. He saw how much Hur’flin enjoyed eating one of these, so he knows they are good...
Mercy noticed that the door has a ledge right above it. It is big enough for two people to stand on, being a dozen inches thick. “Okay, so here's how it will go. I’m going to boost you up there, “She pauses and points to the sill, “and you will pull me up.”
Tyler, who had been nodding his head in agreement as she talks, pauses with a stunned expression. “Your plan is to hide above the doorway? How is that a good idea? What if they see us?”
“It is a fact that most creatures don’t look up unless something draws their attention. I bet that at least three lesser goblins will come out of the room and into the hallway when I make a distraction. As long as we stay up there, they won’t notice us.” Mercy explains as she breaks the spear of the newly killed goblin. She snaps it a few times until it is in small pieces.
“This is insane.”
“Do you have a better idea?”
Tyler shakes his head. If he had an idea, he would’ve suggested it. If he is being honest with himself, Mercy’s idea isn’t terrible, but it relies on luck.
After he doesn’t argue anymore, Mercy kneels down on the ground. Tyler steps on her knee, then her shoulder, then jumps up onto the thin ledge. He almost loses balance and falls, but just barely stays on. Once he is up, he stretches a hand down to Mercy and pulls her up. Mercy quickly climbs up one of the two pillars supporting the doorframe.
Once up, she chunks a piece of the spear at the bottom of the doorway. After a few seconds three lesser goblins pour out of the doorway. Tyler gets ready to jump down and fight, but Mercy quickly stops him. After a few more seconds, the other six lesser goblins and two goblins come out of the doorway. Mercy is shocked. She only expected a few to come out, but all of them except one left.
The goblins group up near the doorway before heading down the hallway. Once they reach the end, they turn the corner, leaving the hallway. Mercy sees that the once white marble floor now has scarlet three-toed footprints down it.
Mercy and Tyler hop off of the sill and head into the plaza. The place looks much the same as the last time they saw it, but this time there is only one goblin. He is in the corner, digging through a pile of bodies. Mercy sneaks up on it, dodging the bones and splatters of blood as she approaches. Right as she gets behind it, the goblin finds what it is looking for.
Rage fills Mercy as she thrusts forward with her only spear after she saw what the goblin held up triumphantly. The spear pierces its back, hurting it but not killing it. Just before it can squeal in anguish, Tyler also pierces it with his spear.
“Thanks.”
Tyler smirks at her, “Of course sweet cheeks,” and then Tyler notices what the goblin was holding, “is that a-” He gets cutoff as he pukes to the side of the pile of corpses. Laying on top of the piles of corpses is a small kid. If he hadn’t seen that his shirt tie-dyed red in parts, he would’ve thought the kid was sleeping.
Mercy pats him on the back as he continues puking. Once he has settled down he says, “We have to bury him. It’s not right to leave the kid here.”
Mercy shakes her head, though she understands the sentiment, “I know what you mean, but we can’t. We aren’t even sure if we are going to survive this. We can double back after we have help.”
“Yeah… you’re right. If we can’t survive then these people would’ve died with nothing… I’m okay now. We should go.”
Mercy leads the way as the walk with a somber mood between them. They leave the plaza and into a new hallway. From what Tyler said previously, she knows that the exit should be down the hall and to the left. Without further ado, the duo walks down the hallway...

Grey Worlds
A mysterious incident occurred on a otherwise normal science centered world where all of the children from the age range of eight to sixteen suddenly vanished. “Where have their kids gone and will they ever return?” The now childless parents never got to really ask that question, because a strange new element replaced their lost children. This element slowly mutated the various animals that they once ruled over with their technology to the point that they were immune to their modern weaponry. The barren land of savages on a continent far away from theirs also had their children taken, but they easily mutated just like the beasts and only grew stronger thanks to the incident. A revolution of animals eventually took place after the mutations started to cause the animals to understand just how badly the humans ruined their lives and planet. Humans were the slowest to figure out how to use this strange new element to evolve, while their opponents were evolving and growing stronger by the day they couldn’t even surpass their modern technology. When humanity was on the brink of extinction a long forgotten event finally ended and their children finally started to return from the various worlds they were summoned to! It turns out that the mysterious new element that they didn’t know what to call was mana and that it’s everywhere in some fantasy planets. The children brought back a increase in technology and techniques to grow stronger with, which caused the humans to finally be able to build safe havens for their race. They grew stronger and started to finally adapt to their brand new environment. This is the story of a orphan who was taken away from his world, before he could gain a sense of attachment to the world. Who only has his older sister to care about and how he ends up adapting to the new world in front of him.------------------Dog notes by doggo First 'five' chapters aren't what the story is really about and is more of a prologue. The reason why some are separated into parts is because Doggo originally posted them as a entire chapter. The main setting is Ghost's actual world and not any foreign world. So this story was already posted once to another site or this site three years ago… and Dog is finally ending that three year hiatus! The explanation on why Dog was on a three year hiatus would of been written in the review section, but rrl doesn't allow self reviews. I'd have to create a alt just to self review which they obviously don't want even tho I'd not give myself any stars so its going to be here instead. The update schedule is a chapter a week till Dog get a editor and then two chapters a week till Dog gets enough money to pay for Dog’s bills. The final goal is to release a chapter every other day. Dog writes 4k word chapters so they are about twice as long as some of the other authors so every other day is actually more like once a day. ------------------- The part that was supposed to be the 'review' which Dog wont bother editing out repeat infomation since it wasn't supposed to go here in the first place. The first thing Dog will go over is what changed for the first 5 chapters, so that anyone who still remembers Dog's little novel and wants to continue from where Dog originally left off can decide whether or not to reread it. Also Dog is moving over to qidan simply because dog like the app they have. Dog won't go premium even if Qidan tells dog to and will simply move back to royalroad or create a blog. The things that changed over the years are mainly two important things. The first is that Dog changed the first person point of view to a third person, because Dog read a really bad first person novel and it reminded dog of dogs own novel. Dog also changed the thoughts of the character to be - - instead of italics. Finally dog changed chapter 3 completely to make the mc not seem like a homicidal maniac and introduced a important character in chapter 3.What happened to do in the three years that dog was away? Was dog at college and now needs money to eat? Was dog off in space after successfully becoming a astronaut and has now returned home with a completed novel or two? The answer is actually quite plain dog graduated from highschool and was supposed to only spend a year at dogs owners house to choose what major dog wanted to go to college for.Dog didn't do that and is still stuck with dogs owners and is sick of being a neet. Dog wants to move and buy doggy food, but dog is antisocial and doesn't want to work a simple 9 to 5 job for the rest of dogs life. Dog is a reader before dog is a author and the reason why dog got into writing was because dog wanted to write a novel without all the things dog finds annoying. Dog spent the first year reading various novels and dropping various novels. Dog is all caught up and has to much free time on dogs paws. The first year that Dog took off was the very same year that qidan came out so dog was naturally overloaded with free chapters. But now that pemium exists dog naturally has to limit the amount dog can read. Dog is addicted to reading like my very own readers and can understand your frustrations for dog disappearing for 3 years.Dog decided that dog will go back to writing 2 years ago. Dog wanted a decent stockpile incase dog has any other emergency so dog didn't post for a year but then dog decided to change the point of view which took another year.Dog has a patreon page https://www.patreon.com/mclaindog but there isn't any tiers there or goals till dog gets a editor. My final goal is to release a chapter every other day, but as long as Dog gets a editor Dog will do two free chapters a week.Dog will probably also make a kofi for anyone who just wants to send dog a tip and can't afford to donate money monthly while maybe having bonus chapters if the tip jar gets filled.

Coming out in sometime in March, 2021. The first volume is going to be different in regards of the story and the style of writing. Looking back on the early chapters, I want to do things a lot different when I first created this story. *Author Note This fiction is a participant of the WriTEr's pledge.
