《RELINQUISH》Chapter 2

I remembered that we had a lot of stuff to talk about that time. Some of it just filled with conflict… But I would say it’s a “good conflict” to begin with. So that is fine for me.
Minutes turn to hours… Whether it is because we are too focused to argue, or the moon did actually come faster this time. All I know is, I couldn't see any light spurt from any windows around us. So logically, it means it's already night.
Maybe it was time that passed much faster than I thought. But it all makes sense if since this morning, both of us have been playing non-stop without even thinking about looking at the numbers on the clock.
Which also means Deo and I really need to get back home as soon as we can.
“Looks like I'll be scolded for coming home late at night… Again…”
Closing all the game apps while still talking with Fanya through the phone's speaker, Deo turned his head around several times as if he was bothered by something.
“Late night?!” He repeats what I said just before.
His body shifts so much that it actually catches my attention. “Where are these people running to? What the hell is happening outside?” He asked.
“Maybe there was an accident? Who knows... There are too many traffic accidents happening everyday around this place… That I'm just tired of caring… Well, welcome to Indonesia…” My words were ignored by him.
~~~~~
When there is something that I really want to ask Fanya about, I can hear her currently talking to someone in the background. Meaning it’s a no.
So I turn my head to try to ask Deo instead. But he suddenly stands up after hearing the words of someone right beside him.
Maybe he wants to go to the toilet with that person?
I never really want to disturb people who are currently talking to other people, or at least that's how my parents taught me since I was just a kid. So he’s a no either.
But the video that I’m watching right now is so interesting…
If only there is some friend here that I can ask to enjoy it together.
So close but also so far.
So lonely.
Wait…
Wait a moment...
Should I worry about how am I the only one who’s not worried about anything like all of these people did?
“What’s wrong with all of you guys?” I asked casually.
“What the fuck? The sky literally is getting darker than how it is supposed to be at such a time like this! Jesus Christ, Daniel… I thought you already knew! I mean…” Fanya stopped talking and waited for me to do something about it.
“Well… It’s not that weird isn’t it? Seven o'clock is usually this dark, tho... Oh wait.” That’s when I saw the digital clock on my own monitor.
“Ah! So it’s still 4 o’clock?! Oh shit! Solar eclipse?”
“No it’s not a solar eclipse… But you really think this is seven?! Daniel! You should pay more attention to what’s going on around you! How many times do you want me to warn you about it, huh?! You stupido stupid! Daniel? Eh? Where are you going?! Hello?”
No words for that, following how all of the people act around this building, I panicked and completely merged with the background leaving Deo and my phone talking to each other.
“Did he just leave?” Fanya asked.
“Uh… Daniel? Yeah…”
“That stupid childo... Deo, bring his phone with you. I will call you guys again later.”
“Sure. You take care there, Fanya…”
~~~~~
Four steps away from the exit, I held my breath which might not have been as fresh as I would have liked, with so many crowds of people huddled in these streets.
There were too many people, that I thought that it might actually be too late for me to go with the flow, as everyone is shocked at what is going on with our own reality’s sky.

That’s when I walked further into the middle of the road along with the sea of people, I realized it was not the sun who left us too early… But it’s something like a floating silk sheet, that’s even darker than black itself… Spreading like no shit.
Covering all of the skies that even the street light can no longer provide us with enough light to see what’s going on around.
I could even feel the wind that had finally stopped completely as if this place was no longer the outside world we were familiar with… Rather, it becomes an airtight sealed box, devoid of light.
Then someone’s whispering right next to me. She said… “Is this the end?”
Just like that, my brain mutes any other sounds only to slowly think about the meaning of those words. But before I can recognize who’s talking, another voice that is really disturbing comes from above.
Like the sound of the devil, screaming from something that’s even scarier than itself.
Just as you think of the world as an iron sheet, the sound is like a fingernail clawing its way through it.
Holding our own head, trying to protect it from something, everyone looks up, just to find out what happened with the deep black dark silk for now. That the devil’s scream came from its surface, where some part of it started to shatter. Cracked like a worn concrete wall, the crumbs itself fall and burn out like falling stars.
From the crevices of the solid yet wavy false sky, Then the unknown twilight glows, finally allowing us to see each person right next to the others, but in red… Deep red like blood.
~~~~~
When The devil’s screams stopped after about one minute in a full madness, all the other sounds also jolted into silence like ordering all the human beings to shut their mouth while watching each of their own deaths come near to the end.
Silence comes…
The instincts of all who are frightened say the same thing… That that's the end of their lives, so is the beginning of death itself…
And the last thing that I can remember was this flashy explosion like a thunderstorm without any rain. But with my head hurts too much to be able to hear all of the thumping.
There are thousands of them…
Red lightning...
Striking all the lowly creatures as low as humans into their own death. Again, forcing everyone to scream in fear while running to nowhere.
Deep dark, but with a blinding lightning strike someone randomly every half of a second… It is actually impossible to know where you are running into, but still…
Everyone including me are trying our best to find a shelter by moving to another spot that has a roof on it. Thought that we will be safe as long as we’re not leaving the building, but then the lightning itself is slowly moving around like a snake.
Crawl and squirm, finding its prey... This light has a consciousness to think about what and who it actually needs to kill.
And I was just… Standing still facing a wall. I don’t know how far have I run, closing my eyes while squeezed by many people. I almost couldn't breathe for about a minute.
Hoping this would end sooner, or even stop before it could kill me.
Shit… I really want to cry so bad.
