《An Ode To Fallen Nemo - Tales from the UnderCurrent (Short Story Series)》Family - Epilogue - Final Part

Epilogue;
I walked quietly down the dirt driveway, a light rucksack over my shoulder.
"Luke."
It was said flat with no real emotion behind it as usual.
I turn to face the man called my Father; "I'm going, you can't stop me any longer. I only stayed f--"
The words caught in my throat but I held my resolve, "--for Aile and Amor's funeral."
Amor - What right did I have to name her that, when because of me she never lived long enough to even develop a gender, an unborn child of just a few weeks doesn't have time to develop a gender. There is no paperwork for a being that young, no proof or official record they ever even existed.
She simply seemed like a girl, it was the little girl that Aila had always wanted.
"Luke you don't have to do this lad, stay here as my second. I wouldn't want anyone better."
I didn't turn to face him, I'd seen him enough for a lifetime;
"Oh yes, I've seen the posters man- I hope turning my wife into a legendary Martyr has had the desired effect on your recruitment drive Colonel, 'Sir!'.
Commander of the Southern Brigade 'Sir'!"
"She was like a daughter to me too boy, But I shant let her memory go to waste - Her death is better used for defending our homeland, than running away." - 'Still no emotion, just his flat uncaring delivery.'
"Then remember this man, you were the one! The one who put ideas of valour and heroism into your 'daughter's' head.
I migth be the idiot pilot who wasn't good enough, who let a stray bullet kill his wife and child - But you Father-Dearest are the one who tells lies of war being glorious!"

I spat the words, not entirely sure if I blamed him or me more in that moment.
There was silence for a brief time and I began walking, no striding forward - When he spoke up once more;
"Where will you go Luke, to die? Is that what sh- They'd want?"
I stopped, half ready to throw fists but I held my self in place like a statue rooted to the ground;
"I'm going to the continent - I'll join the engineer or pilot core or whatever other part of TSU will take me - Not that it's any of your business old man."
"Why? To get revenge against the Abhailens? Or simply to die my son?
Will you really follow the same path you watched me walk when your mother died? I came back but you might not - Stay here Luke, you'll get your chance to fight them again here - It's what they'd want."
'Same Flat Tone.'
I trained to fight in 'The Incident', when Ivernia was being invaded - But the war ended before I was ever deployed. I got to come home, to propose to my lifelong love and run our small farm together for the most glorious days of my life.
But a new war came, 'a true war' according to the governments of the world - The so called 'First War of the Third Age.'
I didn't have an answer for the man behind me and so I simply kept walking.
You might be wondering what the point of it was - Why it all happened, why I choose to tell you all this.
Honestly? I don't know, maybe I never will. I think she would of though, she had a better way with words then me - Aila with the strawberry-blond her and the soft hands - My one and only Aila.

A cataclysm occurred in the world, which rolled back its development for many centuries. The power in it returned to the church, because otherwise, as the "2nd coming", the event that destroyed the earth, cannot be called. A big war is brewing, humanity has already mastered all places suitable for life, and the rulers are trying to expand their possessions at the expense of others. Our hero, Marzio, lives in one of the free Italian towns. He is the bastard of a major feudal lord who made his name in the war. His mother, despite her righteous lifestyle, practices quackery. For which one day, on an unremarkable and ordinary day, she is sentenced to death. Seeing the burning of his own mother and losing faith in people, Marzio begins his journey. Thanks to the connections of his small family, he escapes from the city and, together with a trade caravan, moves to another city, where he plans to enter the academy and become stronger. Along the way, he contacts people who call themselves "diggers" - plunderers. So, he finds himself in the ruins of the old world, which was much more developed and finds more and more evidence of the terrible secret of the true cause of the fall of the world, which the church so zealously hides. But the second coming gave not only the suffering and wrath of God, but also monsters from mutated animals. In a fight with them, he falls into the eyes of the detachment of the sacred order, after which they, having estimated its potential, take it to themselves and, with their patronage, he enters the academy. At the academy, he meets new friends, and his origin is revealed there. Since he is the only male descendant, he can claim the title and possession of his father. Thanks to this, our hero receives a certain amount of attention from the opposite sex. After training, Marzio learns about the so-called knowers who are aware of the artifacts of the ancients and how things truly are. New prospects are opening up for him, but also new dangers. He becomes part of the squad that helped him. And using modern for us and futuristic for the Middle Ages, small arms are engaged in protecting the secrets of the church and persecuting a group calling themselves apostates, who want to reveal all the cards that will drive the world into a new branch of chaos and the fight against the regime. As cover, his order sided with minor rulers to fight the old-fashioned way and maintain the balance of power. More and more secrets are revealed to Marzio, and a serious intriguing game unfolds behind him, into which he is sucked in with more and more force. But the hero is the hero, in order to grow and cope with the twists and turns of fate, he stoically withstands all trials and even not knowing about the threats from the east and another continent continues to go forward to meet his fate, for the sake of freedom, revenge and struggle.

Calf, the heir presumptive has fallen short once again. As a half-being his competition has always stood heads and shoulders above his physical capabilities but this time, more is at play in keeping him down than the fetters of human ability. "THEY" have interfered and as a consequence, Calf is thrown into a Rites the likes of which only the annals and a few of the long-lived have seen. Will he prevail, or will his story end before it even begins. PROLOGUE: The rite of passage. Every creature known and yet to be known by man undergoes its own challenges. These separate the chaff from the worthy crop, whittling down the challengers for every progressive leg of the journey we call life. Be it formalized and observed, or unwittingly followed in the execution of daily life, every form of it is ritualized. That ritual is what we call the rites, the passage being the continuation of life itself, for even when metaphorical, a death is certain in choice and accommodations should one fail to meet its expectations. ⯁⯁⯁ At the top of any group stands a king, set apart from all by qualification, ranging from singular to multivariate by the complexity of each group. To those of the central forests of Greater Liminos, better known as Taurreland, strength is king. Though the land abounds with creatures great and small, boasting intellect, arcane skills and artisanal prowess, strength stands above all of them, second to none. 'Strength will prevail over all' stands as their motto, and to that end, the Rites of a King require triumph over forces from all disciplines. ⯁⯁⯁ Day 300,Year seventeen,Future calendar of the Taurs... Such a rites would occur on that day, and its events would be the first in a sequence of challenges to the status quo. A single answer would emerge to satisfy all the questions that had been asked of a certain Prince for the past 8 years, but as a consequence, that answer would put to question all that was tradition, and the weight of hereditary strength.
