《Where The Future Began》Chapter Sixteen

Recap: "See, I believe you but you see my sons over there", Brian said to the farmer, gesturing at the duo who were still searching through the boxes, "they don't so we still have to search but since you are telling the truth you don't have to worry, this will be over soon and you can be on your way", Brian concluded and patted the young man on the shoulder before walking over to join his son and his ward.
As Brian approached the duo, he heard Acacius say "If she was here, Ilium, don't you think we would have found her by now" to which Ilium replied, "do you want to find her or not?". Acacius replied, "Of course, I want to, the old crone won't tell the rest of the story or tell me why I need her if I don't take the girl to her, believe me, I have tried".
"At least now we know where you disappear to", Brian said aiming a pointed look at Acacius before turning to Ilium and asking "Do you still think she's here, son?" and continued when Ilium nodded "well then, there are only cauldrons left, let's make quick work of this so we can send the farmer on his way".
Aurora's heart was in her throat as the trio made their way through the cauldrons, she kept praying to whichever God was listening, she hoped one was at least listening and would grant her request. As she heard them approach the last cauldron which was the one she was hidden in, she tried desperately to shift and be invisible but she had been deprived of air for so long, that she didn't have enough strength to shift. She eventually succeeded just as Ilium lifted the lid of the last cauldron.

"Well, now we can send the farmer on his way after you two load his truck", Brian said as he jumped down from the truck. "Wait, I can smell a creature in one of the cauldrons", Acacius yelled out to Brian who replied to him "We already searched all the boxes and cauldrons, son". "Yes but what if it's a creature with the ability to hide in open space moreover for an empty cauldron, it has a bit of weight", Ilium commented.
"There's one way to find out", Acacius said before turning to the guards and saying "I need a knife". "What for?", Brian asked as one of the guards tossed a hunting knife to Acacius who slit his own palm to the surprise of everyone including the poor farmer who was now exhausted and wondering why he decided to take this trip tonight.
Seeing the surprise on everyone's faces, Acacius explained, "If Aurora is in here somewhere, this wound will not close". They stood in silence for a few minutes watching the blood trickle out and fall in a pool at Acacius' feet but the wound still did not close. Everyone including Brian and Ilium watched in awe, only now realizing why Acacius pursued the girl so wildly; in the hands of his enemies, the girl could be a very formidable weapon.
They wouldn't have been worried except that Acacius had enemies in all the corners of the earth who would come out once news of Aurora spread but the powerful trio couldn't let them happen, looking at one another, they came to a silent conclusion. One was that Aurora was here, and the second was that all witnesses had to go; they couldn't afford news of the girl getting out.
Starting with the first cauldron, they worked their way up to the last one where Aurora was still hiding. She couldn't have escaped because guards were searching every cauldron, reaching into it to see if their hands met with the flesh they couldn't see. Just as Ilium came to the last cauldron, Aurora's invisibility shield wore off and the arm he put into the cauldron met with soft flesh and he could see her.

"Found her", he said as he pulled her out of the cauldron, screaming and clawing at his hand to get herself free. Acacius and Brian hurried over to where Ilium held the bane of Acacius' existence. As she saw Acacius approach, the girl started to plead and scream louder begging Ilium to let her go but he only held on more tightly to her.
"You have no idea how much trouble you are in, girl", Brian said coming to a stop where the pool of blood from Acacius' now wrapped palm still lay. "That doesn't matter anymore, does it?", Ilium asked giving Acacius and his father a pointed look. The two of them nodded and turned around as Brian summoned the guards in a loud voice, and announced that Aurora was the fugitive who had eluded them all this time. He also thanked them for their help before he and Acacius ripped into them. The guards never saw it coming, the immortals were so fast that in a matter of minutes, there were bodies everywhere and the only sound was the shocked gasp that escaped Aurora's lips. One minute the guards had been beaming with smiles and sighs of relief and the next minute, they lay dead.

Portals to other worlds. Siblings with a secret. A world in need of magic. Zach is haunted, scarred by his time spent in a place that might as well have been hell. Zara, his sister, even more so. After years of torturous experiments, they were finally rescued. But the years since then haven’t been easy. Both siblings just want a break, something to take their minds from the past. The portals that appeared all over the world a hundred years ago are the key. The reason behind years of captivity now holds the answer to their problems. For the second time in his life, Zack awakens as a ‘Traveler’. Someone possessing the ability to pass through these portals and venture into the mystic realms. What begins as a fresh start soon attracts the attention of nobles and those with less savory intentions. When you have known nothing but distrust for those in power, what would you do to remain in control of your life? I will be uploading new chapters on Tuesday and Saturday each week at 4pm Mountain Standard Time. (The story has been described as X-men meets Narnia. Which while not entirely accurate, is still a fun way of looking at it.) (Note: As with my other stories, this one focuses more on the characters than on constant action. The Lite-LitRPG and Gamelit elements are introduced into the story gradually.) Author's Note: This is my raw, mostly unedited text. I am using RR to test out this story as I'm writing it to get a feel for how the published and edited copy will be received. Certain sections of the story will be changed or added to when I publish it as well. Galactic Internet: System Initializing Book 1
The Galactic Internet is a system takeover LitRPG with two MC's. It's gritty and dark at times, so I'd like to start with a brief warning. The story was made for adults, and as such contains some cursing, potentially traumatizing violence, gore, indentured servitudes. There is no sexually explicit material in the first book. However, there is nudity and sexual interactions aren't out of the scope of possibilities for later in the story. The first book is almost exclusively trying to figure out how the game works and trying to stay alive. It is a very open system that I've implemented. Expect to see anything from androids and aliens, to goblins and trolls.
