《Where The Future Began》Chapter Eleven

Recap: She wondered if this time she would have to change her name, switch up her look, maybe dye her hair and change the story she would have to tell. These amongst other things were what was on her mind when she drifted off to sleep.
"Perhaps, we should go back to the crone", Freyja said as she walked in and put on the table a tray holding three cups of tea. Acacius and Brian were seated at the family lounge on the second floor of their home. The former has taken residence at the Ambroses' villa since Aurora ran away a week ago. It had been a full week and yet there were no signs of her anywhere. They had almost exhausted all their resources and still, they had not found her and Acacius was even more heartbroken with each passing day.
"Perhaps", Brian said as he looked up from the morning's newspaper at Acacius who was reaching for one of the cups Freyja had just come in with. "I highly doubt the girl would go to the old crone, I doubt she even knows the crone exists", Acacius said. "Even if she's not there, the crone might be able to tell you where she has gone", Freyja replied and Brian said "true". They discussed some more before deciding it was best the men went together while Freyja stayed back so she could get them reports from their scouts as soon as possible.
As the duo landed in front of the crone's hut, she opened the door and said "If you have come to ask me where the girl is because you lost her again", she looked pointedly at Acacius, "I have no answers for you". "At least, tell us.....", Brian started to say then stopped when the crone lifted a finger to her mouth hushing him. "Everyone has a part to play; yours is to find her, mine is to point out the ties that bind you to her so find her, you must!!!", she exhaled as if she had been holding her breath then continued "for all of our sakes, find the girl!!" then she went back in and closed the door.

Having hit a dead end here, Brian turned to Acacius and asked "Is there something I should know about my maid". Acacius began "for one, she's going to be very hard to find" then continued when Brian huffed in anger "she's a half-wolf and a half-chameleon". "And you didn't think it was important to tell me when we started searching for her? you deserve all the trouble she is putting you through", Brian said as he took to the sky and headed home. Acacius soon followed.
Brian was still angry when he landed at his home, Freyja hurried out only to be shocked at the look on her husband's face. She was horrified at the thought that he was angry because Brian rarely did and more often than not, it was at Acacius but given the present situation, she couldn't really say who the anger was directed at. Acacius landed soon and Brian huffed and puffed then brushed past her and headed into the house. Freyja turned to Acacius and asked him how it went at the crone because she was afraid to ask her husband but it was Brain who answered before Acacius could. "Terribly, because this dimwit", he gestured at Acacius "forgot to tell us that Aurora could hide if she wanted". Freyja was confused "what do you mean 'hide'". "Because she is a half-wolf and a half chameleon", Brian replied.
The shock on Freyja's face only made Brian angrier but Freyja couldn't help herself, she remembered now that Ilium had always said the girl smelt wrong but she and her husband had always just thought it was because Aurora could be a half breed. They had never thought she would be one of the rarest creatures amongst the species. Chameleons were so rare they had almost been dismissed as myths but they weren't always extinct as they were now. They were almost extinct now because the other species had hunted them for their skins and power. Even Freyja in the old days had joined in on the hunt more than once. To now think one of those exotic creatures had been under her roof for years was something she didn't want to believe. "But she was always so plain and Clumsy", Freyja said out loud to which Acacius replied, "Freyja, everyone is plain to you, you would never believe another being could be more beautiful than you".

"Well, forgive me, chameleons are creatures of grace and poise and aurora; well she was anything but graceful", Freyja said causing Brian to roll his eyes. He was low on patience at the moment towards either of them. He had just learned that his efforts to find the clumsy girl had been for nothing, she could as well have vanished. Besides poise and grace, chameleons could hide in any skin and any place, they could be right next to you and you wouldn't know. All they could pray for now was for the girl to be stupid enough to lead them right to her. Brian chuckled to himself, he was talking about praying now to gods he stopped believing in so long ago.
His chuckle drew the attention of the arguing duo and they turned to him with questions in their eyes. He waved their worry away and said "I should call Ilium, his sources might be able to help us" as he stepped out of the room with his phone.
"Hello, Father", Ilium said on one end of the phone. "Hello, son", Brian said on the other end of the phone before he proceeded to apprise his son of the developments concerning Aurora. "If you wanted to hide without money or help, where would you go?", Ilium asked his father to which Brian replied, "There's only one place she could go".

Much like his father before him, the new master of House Doom is a prodigy of war, yet the venerable minions of his household still hold strange loyalties toward his missing ancestor, silently comparing the legendary rage of his father to the more pragmatic approach of the son. Adding to Basil’s frustrations is the lack of accomplishment he feels for his work, with the dungeon keeper often taking on handicaps just to give his enemies a fighting chance. With all the power and wealth one could ever dream of already within his grasp, Basil now finds that the achievements of others kindle more joy in his heart than his own crushing victories. Thus Basil has taken up mentoring the next generation of dungeon keepers to try and diagnose the cause for his own lack of passion. With his apprentice, Elnora, managing most of the daily work around the dungeon, Basil can finally turn his attention towards his personal concerns, such as tackling the shadow of his legendary father that still looms large over him.
