《Where The Future Began》Chapter Two

Trouble has never been too far from the Ambroses. If it wasn't old enemies coming for blood, it was keeping the peace at warrior's peak. It was hard enough pretending to be founding members of a community they themselves had run to when their troubles were at their heels.

Yes, trouble was never far from them and today it showed up in the form of their old ward. Brian Ambrose had always had a good heart, it was he who took in young acacius at their last home. Yes, he might have left him when they fled for their lives but in their defense; they had thought him dead. They had learned the hard way that he wasn't.

Ever the dramatic one, Acacius had shown up at Illium's christening with what he called a dramatic entrance. It wasn't often that angels showed up at warriors peak so the Acacius spectacle had caused a bit of an uproar. He also had the habit of dropping in once every few years, never missing an avenue to cause the Ambroses more trouble. Freyja had given Brian grief for it though he couldn't see how it was his fault.

After the council meeting they had gone to this morning, Brian didn't think the day could get any worse but it did. The doorbell rang before he could make his way up the stairs after his mate.

The door opened to reveal Acacius with a broad smile adorning his face. Brian groaned and the smile on Acacius' face got broader. "Freyja, we have a guest", Brian called up the stairs to his wife. "But I am hardly a guest, Brian" Acacius replied. Sometimes, Brian swore he got off on tormenting others...

"Bring some refreshments for the guest". Freyja shouted as she entered the room before noticing the identity of their guest who simply smiled and waved at her. Freyja had hoped Brian's ward wouldn't show up for a while. She was always so uncomfortable in his presence.

Everyone looked up as the tray aurora was carrying fell and its contents scattered. They hadn't even noticed her entering the room "what in God's name is wrong with you now?" Freyja groaned. "Sor, sor I'm sorry, please forgive me " she stammered out as she turned to run out of the room. Many thoughts ran through her head as she ran up the stairs to her attic room. He found me she thought, her nightmares were coming true, she thought she had outrun him, she thought warriors peak was one place he would never have any reason to come into. Oh, how she was wrong.

She opened the door to her room, crashed on the bed then sprang up when she remembered that the man who was responsible for her parents' death and who now hunted her was downstairs. For all she knew, her employees could be selling her off to him, happy to finally get rid of her, she thought.

Meanwhile, downstairs everyone was shocked by what had just happened, the Ambroses tried to cover it up. "You should forgive her, the human girl is unusually clumsy today," Brian said as he made eye contact with the members of his family. "It's nothing," Acacius said even as he couldn't shake the feeling that he knew her from somewhere though he couldn't remember where.

"So, what is an angel doing in my town?" Brian asked. He liked to call Warrior's peak his town though warriors peak hadn't been a town for long and he himself had come to warriors peak, not as one of the founding families. No, he and his family had come there under circumstances that were beyond their control. He however called it his to remind the young angel it was his territory.

Acacius smiled, "I was in town for business, though I should stop by to see a few friends. I thought you would be happy to see me but it looks like you are also not happy to see me." "Also?" Freyja asked. "Yes, I stopped by Illium's office on my way here, he didn't seem too happy to see me," he said as he shook his head wildly. Acacius didn't see women as creatures fit for his attention, he considered them beneath his station, even when they were remotely related to him. He had only answered Freyja out of deference for Brian.

"You can't blame him, who will want to see you after how we parted ways?" Brian asked glaring at Acacius. "On that note, I should get going, my business isn't going to take care of itself, it was nice seeing you again though I wish it was under better circumstances," he said standing up. Likewise, Brian muttered as he gestured to the door, when they got to the door he pinned a stern look on Acacius who was now on the other side of the door " I do not appreciate you dropping by unexpectedly, mate, remember that the next time you are in town for 'business'". He turned and slammed the door.
