《In Range》Chapter 106: Divinity And Bond

“What ambitious goals, but I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from people who Rank at the Top of the Players.” I thought to myself, closing the Chat Menus with Tobias and Casino. “I wonder if the others also have such high aspirations in this world? Well, I’m sure they’ll contact me if they do, and if they need my help with anything. That probably means there’s nothing else for me to do but wait and see how everything plays out with Tobias and Casino—except for figuring out how I'm going to deal with her...” Returning my attention back to the problem at hand, I glanced over to Myeyl who was still glaring at me with burning eyes, and who grumbled from the opposite side of the sparring ring. “Ughh… How am I supposed to explain what just happened without sounding like a crazy person or a perverted creep? And then there’s also those strange messages that appeared earlier...”

A few minutes ago...

The moment Myeyl awoke, I regained control over my body, and some new messages randomly appeared in front of me.

‘Annihilation’ has created an ‘Unknown Bond’ between you and ‘Myeyl Fre’Nddare’, cosmically binding your two Souls together, and destined both of your Fates to be intertwined with one another. You have learned the Skill: [Soulbound Transfer] You have gained the Title: [Makings Of A God] ‘Makings Of A God’ has unlocked the [Divinity] Stat.

“What the hell!?” I exclaimed to myself.

Though before I could grasp the sudden messages, Myeyl coldly said “Eyes. Explain. Now.”

“O-Okay! Hold on a sec, Myeyl!” I stuttered in a panic. “I-I know that this looks really bad, but I promise this isn’t what it looks like!”

“What’s it supposed to look like then, huh Eyes!? ‘Cause from where I’m laying, it looks like you were taking advantage of me!” Myeyl voiced in anger. “And whatever excuse you come up with better be a good one!”

“Uhh…” I struggled to think of something.

“Mm-hmph…” Her eyes angrily narrowed.

“Well you see, Myeyl...” But before I could come up with a reason and explain why we were in such an intimate position, she slapped me across the face and kicked me away from her.

Still feeling the red slap mark Myeyl left on my face, I optimistically thought “I know she still looks angry, but maybe I should approach her now that she’s cooled down a little?”

“Nope. She is still furious with you, Voa. I can feel it.” Annihilation unexpectedly responded.

“You can feel it? No, wait! What the hell was that all about, Anni?! And why are you only answering me now?!” I loudly questioned her, wondering what she’s been doing all this time.

“Creating the...Conditional Soulbound Transfer took a lot more out of me than I expected, and I was forced into a temporary slumber until I could recover enough of my power.” Annihilation started to explain, but she quickly changed topics, saying “Though from seeing how you obtained a God-Type Skill and unlocked Divinity this early on as a result of my actions, shouldn’t you be thanking me instead of questioning me, my ungrateful little Voa?”

“Well now that you’ve brought that up, I’ve waiting for you to answer me, Anni. Am I actually becoming a God with these?” Bringing up the descriptions for the messages earlier

Soulbound Transfer: By your Godly Will, you can forcibly Remove, Transfer Possession, or Bind Items that are already bound to Another. Cost 10 Divinity or 100 Years of Lifespan per Item Rarity above Common Rarity. Items of God-Make bound by another God require a hundredfold the Cost of Divinity or Lifespan to overcome another God’s Will. Makings Of A God: Through the efforts of your Own or with the help of Another, you have obtained Power beyond the Limits of Mortals, allowing you to begin your Ascension into Godhood. Unlocks the ‘Divinity’ Stat.

Divinity: With the Quantity and Quality of being Divine, you possess the potential to create Miracles or cause Disasters. May only be increased through the True Belief or Sacrifice of Others in your Name, and which is decreased by the True Disbelief of Others of your Name. Empowering Magical/Physical-Type Skills or the use of God-Type Skills Temporarily Depletes your ‘Divinity’, but any lost amount will always Regenerate over time as long as you have more Believers/Sacrifices than Disbelievers. Divine Lifespan extends your Life by 10 Years per 1 Permanently Sacrificed 'Divinity'.

*If you have more Disbelievers than Believers/Sacrifices and all of your ‘Divinity’ is Completely Depleted, this Stat will be Locked until you can find a way to obtain 'Divinity' again, causing your remaining Divine Lifespan to rapidly drain.*

Current Believers: 23 / Current Disbelievers: 15

Lives Sacrificed: 0

Divine Lifespan: 0

“Haha… No, that is not the case, my dear Voa.” Annihilation chuckled at my question. “Simply possessing Divinity or a God-Type Skill does not make one a ‘God’, for there are many beings in Novus who possess Divinity or such Skills, and they are not truly recognized or worshiped as such.” Mentioning, “That woman Verana for example; I believed she possesses both Divinity and a God-Type Skill, yet she is not considered a ‘Goddess’ by most, isn’t that correct?”

“Verana has both!?” I exclaimed in shock.

“Yes, if only a little, but I did sense some Divinity from her.” She revealed. “I was actually quite surprised to see someone who hasn’t yet reached the Mortal Limit already possess Divinity, though I suppose her having the Legendary Class of the Astral-Body Mystic would explain how she came to possess some—which the Class in itself inherently already has a few pseudo God-Type Skills related to it.”

“I can see why Verana glows with so much Significance now.” I noted, though still having a lot of questions about what this all meant, I spent a few minutes querying about my new Skill and Divinity.

Seemingly being in a talkative mood today, Annihilation answered “The Soulbound Transfer Skill is exactly as it says it is, and is capable of every amazing thing you imagine it can do. And yes, even that. Divinity on the other hand is a bit too… abstract to definitively explain; because in actuality, the more one disbelieves and denies something to be real, the more they themselves actually admit there’s something real for others to believe in. And along with a slew of other factors, this makes one’s Divinity mostly always be in a sort of fluctuating and differing state.”

“Sounds super vague and inconsistent.” I remarked.

“That just speaks to the fickle, and irrational nature of mortals and their beliefs.” retorted Annihilation. “Although now that you do possess some Divinity, Voa, I would advise you to be wary of openly displaying or using such power out in the open, for there are many selfish and greedy beings seeking to steal any Divinity for themselves, and will do everything in their power to ascend into Godhood themselves.” Adding, “Doing so may also alert some of the keener Gods of your presence, and who knows what they might do to an Unknown Divinity like yours.”

“So what, Divinity is just something I have now, but that I can’t use unless I want even more people to come after my head?” I questioned, overwhelmed by another reason for more people to come and kill me.

“Not to worry, my precious little Voa, I shall happily annihilate all who dare attack us!” She confidently stated, slightly reassuring me. “Besides, as of right now with your current insignificant amount of Divinity, even those with the rare ability to sense it won’t be able to detect Divinity from you—unless openly shown otherwise of course, hence my advice to be wary of its use.”

“That just means they’ll be able to sense it later if I somehow end up getting more Divinity for myself.” I groaned at the thought. “What an annoying hassle. And here I thought my plate was already full of things I had to keep my mind about.” Opening my Stats Menu to see my current amount of Divinity and to check up on my Stats.

“8 Divinity, huh? That does seem really low.” I noted to myself. “And seeing how it has an extremely low regen rate, I wouldn’t be able to freely use it whenever I wanted to even if I could. But I wonder who all those Believers and Disbelievers I have are, ‘cause there should be no way that many people have such strong beliefs in me, right? Or is there?”

“Hey, Eyes! You pervert!” Myeyl suddenly called out to me. “Are you really not going to apologize for what you just did to me? Or at least attempt to explain yourself?” She now glared in irritation.

“I told you, Myeyl, it wasn’t what it looked like. It was just a big misunderstanding.” I reiterated.

“Then clear up the misunderstanding for me, will you? C’mon, let me hear it.” Gesturing for me to explain myself.

“Uhh…” Quickly coming up with an explanation, I said “Would you believe me if I said you suddenly stopped breathing, and that I needed to perform a forgotten ancient healing technique to help you breathe again to prevent you from dying?”

“Is that really what you’re going with?” She questioned, not believing me at all, “A forgotten ancient healing technique that helps someone breathe after they’ve stopped being able to?”

“Yup.”

“Well then please do tell me the name of this ancient forgotten healing technique, I’d love to know such an inconceivable technique myself.”

I hesitated to answer and mumbled, “Mouth-to-mouth...Resuscitation…” though the moment I spoke those words, another new message appeared.

A new 3rd-Tier Evolution, ‘Resuscitation’, has been created for the Skill ‘First Aid’.

“Resuscitation? And it’s a new 3rd-Tier Evolution? Was me thinking of it really enough to create a new evolution?” I wondered to myself.

“Mouth-to-mouth Resuscitation?” Myeyl giggled at the name, “Is that really the best name you could come up with?”

“What, it’s what’s called.”

“Mm-hmph. Sure it is.”

“No, it’s actually what it’s called.” I adamantly stated.

Myeyl smirked, “You know, Eyes, you could’ve just told me you’ve been harbouring lustful feelings towards me instead of stealing a kiss whilst I was asleep you know?”

I groaned and rolled my eyes, “Whatever, don’t believe me then. But if it means anything, I am sorry, Myeyl. I think I might’ve unknowingly involved you with something beyond my control…” Briefly recalling the earlier message.

‘Annihilation’ has created an ‘Unknown Bond’ between you and ‘Myeyl Fre’Nddare’, cosmically binding your two Souls together, and destined both of your Fates to be intertwined with one another.

Myeyl tilted her head in confusion, though after realizing I was being sincere with my apology, she shrugged and said “Apology accepted, Eyes.”

“Then we’re good?” I asked, pleasantly surprised by her acceptance.

“Nope.” She smiled brightly. “I’ve accepted your apology, but I never said you were forgiven. You still have to make it up to me later.”

“Ugh… Fine.” Thinking, “I should’ve known she wouldn’t have let me go that easily.”

“Oh, and don’t worry, Eyes, I promise Father will never learn what happened here.” Myeyl playfully smiled.

“What will I never learn about?” Zebeyeyl questioned in curiousity, finally returning with a chest of supplies in hand.

“Ah, Father, you’re back! But what’s that chest you got there?” Myeyl curiously inquired, not yet knowing the news about the creation of her Trinity Tattoo.

“You’ll see, dear.” He replied, carrying the supplies over to us. “Now what was that about me never learning about something?”

“N-Nothing, Master Zebeyeyl!” I stammered, panicking to think of an excuse, “We were just...”

“Having a secret conversation between ourselves, Father.” Myeyl interjected, giving me a worryingly teasing wink.

“A secret conversation? Should I be worried?” Zebeyeyl queried, raising his eyebrow in suspicion as he noticed the heavy and immense magic still lingering in the air of the chamber.

“Not at all.” Myeyl assured him. “Isn’t that right, Eyes?” Mischievously grinning towards me.

“Y-Yeah...” I noddingly agreed, “Just an ordinary conversation between fellow students.”

“Hmm…” Zebeyeyl stared at the both of us in suspicion, but he ultimately relaxed and shrugged, saying “Odelia and I had a fair amount of secrets we kept from our own Master as well, so if you two are anything like we were back in the day, I suppose needlessly prying wouldn’t help me in finding out.”

“No, no it wouldn’t. Though I would say our… relationship is slightly different from yours and Master Odelia’s, Father.” Myeyl distinctly pointed out, knowingly teasing me with another mischievous grin.

“Okay, now I don’t think I want to know what the secret you two are keeping from me is. So let’s just move on, shall we?” Zebeyel said with a look of concern, but Myeyl and I simply laughed at his reaction and agreed to move on.

Continuing to stare at us with a concerned suspicion, Zebeyeyl opened the chest full of the supplies needed to create our Trinity Tattoos. While in the process of preparing everything to be used, he finally informed Myeyl of what was happening next. Hearing the news of her Trinity Tattoos being created today, Myeyl jumped with excited glee, and of course demanded to be the first one of us who possessed one. At first I thought I should just burst her bubble, but after seeing her radiant and beautiful smile, I didn’t really feel like ruining her mood, and simply conceded and allowed her to go first. Zebeyeyl on the other hand didn’t care either way.

“How gentlemen-like of you, Voa.” Annihilation remarked with a chuckle. “And given the overwhelming sense of happiness and gratefulness I can feel from her, I would say it was a great gesture she very much appreciated.”

“It was?” Myeyl and I then surprisingly locked eyes and momentarily shared endearing glances with one another.

Quickly shaking her head and averting her eyes, Myeyl shouted “Eyes, quit staring at me like that!”

“What, I’m not staring? If anything, you‘re staring at me!” I argued.

“Shut up and go over there!” She shouted back, pointing to the other side of the chamber. “You’re not allowed to look at me, or else!”

“B-But I didn’t even do anything...” Although after noticing Zebeyeyl’s curious expression, I reluctantly listened and left for the other side of the chamber.

“Seems your lustful gaze made her embarrassed.” Annihilation teasingly commented.

“Embarrassed? Myeyl’s not the type to be embarrassed. And what you mean lustful, I just looked at her the same way I always have.” I refuted, briefly glancing back and seeing Myeyl strangely covering her face.

“Not from her perspective...” Annihilation knowingly mentioned.

“Alright, I’m actually serious now, Anni.” Questioning her, “What the hell did you do to us? What was that message earlier about an Unknown Bond you created between me and Myeyl? And our Souls and Fates being bound and intertwined with one another?”

“Oh, would you look at that, it seems I did not rest enough earlier. I think I should slumber until I fully recover all of my power. Goodnight, my dear Voa.” And without giving me a second to react, Annihilation already disappeared from my consciousness.

“She’s really getting on my nerves with that.” I thought to myself, sitting down and facing the wall to avoid getting yelled at by Myeyl for looking at her. “Well on the bright side, at least now I won’t be interrupted while I’m checking out all these Skill Evolutions.”
