《PROGENITOR》Chapter 3

By the time lunchtime came around, Ankoku was starving. Normally he would eat something after school before heading to the library for his shift at the cafe. However, he was so anxious that the sight of food sounded appetizing, so after dropping Jack off, he decided to treat himself to lunch. He stopped at an expensive looking café and ordered an extra serving of fries and a chocolate milkshake.

His mood seemed better now that he had eaten something. But despite the fact that he had eaten some good food, he still felt hungry. The day passed by slowly, as most days do for him at work. Ankoku was busy wiping down tables and taking orders and filling cups. He didn't really pay attention to the customers. He didn't have many conversations with them, so talking wouldn't take long.

The afternoon came and went without much ado. By the time he finished closing the shop, it was already 6:45 and Ankoku didn't feel all that hungry anymore, but he was too tired to go home yet. I miss Mina, he thought glumly. He missed cuddling her as she slept or listening to her ranting at him in the middle of the night. I miss the smell of her hair. I miss the way her hands slide across my chest whenever we hug. I miss her laugh.

Ankoku shook his head. No, don't be stupid. You've been friends for years. Of course there won't ever be anything more than that between you two.

He couldn't stop thinking about her face the whole night and it didn't help that his thoughts kept drifting back to the kiss. She had been so beautiful. Her bright blue eyes twinkling in the moonlight and her lips curved upwards in a gentle smile. A soft blush painted her cheeks and she looked so pretty. She had smelled sweet. So sweet. And so perfect.

He shook his head again, forcing himself out of the fantasy.

What's wrong with me lately? Why can't I stop thinking about her? What am I going to do?

He sighed deeply as he reached for his phone and called Mina.

She picked up after three rings and she sounded extremely exhausted, like she had only just woken up. "Hello, this is her friend Mina speaking," she answered sleepily.

"Mina," Ankoku said in a low voice. "Do you want to come over tonight?"

"Is something wrong?" she asked worriedly. Her voice had returned to its usual soft tone when she talked to him.

"Not exactly," he responded, "but I miss you."

There was a pause. "Why?" she asked. Ankoku was surprised she actually remembered that question, since he never brought it up before.

"I don't know, I just…" he trailed off quietly. He let out a shaky breath, hoping that Mina understood his meaning. "Please."

Silence filled his ears for a brief second. He heard her breathing heavily on the other end before she spoke again. "Ok," she replied softly.

Ankoku exhaled sharply in relief. "Thanks. I'll wait for you outside."

"OK."

Before Ankoku hung up, Mina said one more thing before the call ended.

"Love you, Ankoku."

Ankoku smiled and whispered "I love you too," before ending the call.

After locking up the door of the café, he quickly made his way down the street towards Mina's apartment. After what felt like ages, he finally stood outside of the door. He fished his key out of his pocket and unlocked the front door.

Ankoku took a few steps inside and looked around the tiny flat curiously. He saw Mina sitting on her bed, wearing an oversized tshirt and sweatpants. I miss you . He wanted to say.

"Hey," he greeted instead, walking over to her. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder as she turned around to look at him.

"Hey," she murmured softly. She leaned forward and placed a soft kiss against his lips.

Ankoku kissed her back and closed his eyes. When they pulled apart, he rested his forehead against hers, unable to hold back the grin growing on his face.

"Where's Jack?" she asked, running her fingers through his hair lovingly. He hummed happily under her touch.

"Jack's still at school, working. He's not picking me up tonight."

"That sucks."

Ankoku chuckled. "Meh, you should see the state he's in every morning before school starts." He chuckled again, earning him another kiss.

Ankoku leaned his forehead against hers once more as he pulled away. "Want me to make you a dinner?"

"Sure."
