‘A basket what?ʼ Mez, Fizzy, Kal and I all asked in unison. ‘A basketball match, you have to get this ballʼ he said as he lifted the ball up ‘into that hoop’ he said as he pointed at the ring of metal. ‘Well that sounds easy enoughʼ Okay lets do this I replied. ‘Wait, wait whatʼs the catchʼ Kal asked, interrupting me. ‘Catch?ʼ Danny asked innocently. ‘Yeah weʼre not dumbʼ Kal said, he then looked my way and said ‘Well not all of us anywayʼ. ‘I knew there was a catch I was just waiting for you to askʼ I said weakly. ‘Okay there are a few rules, first no hittingʼ Danny said ‘Second no walking with the ball you have to dribbleʼ, ‘Dribble whatʼs that?ʼ I asked curiously. ‘You have to bounce it up and downʼ Danny spoke while
“dribbling” the ball. After we practiced for awhile the match began, Danny gave us the ball first. As I was holding it, I started to dribble but Danny knocked it from my hand then threw it through the hoop ‘1 – 0, two more and I winʼ He jeered, everyone was thinking the same thing at that moment WTF!
This time we strategised Fizzy blocked Danny, Mez and Kal were by the hoop and I was holding the ball again, I passed to Kal and straight away he caught the ball then threw it, it seemed to be going in but Danny suddenly jumped and knocked it out of the way and then threw it in the hoop. ‘2 nothing, if I shoot one more in the basket I win but if you gets even one in itʼs your winʼ he said teasingly. I quietly started to talk to Mez, Kal and Fizzy
‘Okay guys we need to get at least one in to win and I think I know howʼ I noticed Danny straining to hear so I whispered my plan to them. Iʼm holding the ball again (third times the charm) Danny came towards me I pass to Kal who was nearby he caught it, I then shouted pass it to Mez so Danny started to run towards Mez but Kal passed it to Fizzy who was near the “basket” he threw it and it went in, we all cheered and attacked Fizzy whilst laughing. Afterward we turned to face Danny, ‘I guess this means we won thenʼ I said to him. Danny said yeah well bye then he started to walk away. ‘Waitʼ I called after him suddenly not really sure of what I wanted to say, He turned around and stared at me ‘Join us, it sucks being alone plus you can teach us how to play properlyʼ I spoke earnestly half surprised my

A King in the Clouds
Tanlar. A cruel, repulsive, and foul word. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term, a badge only the damned and condemned wore. To be a tanlar was to know your life, your entire being, was insignificant. Once Kaizer had resigned himself to such a fate, but those times had passed. He may have been untitled, but he was anything but untalented. He refused to scrape by at the bottom of society. Those who stood above him could sneer all they liked, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on for long. He’d be better, much better. But of course he would be. ‘Fate’ demanded it so. [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] What To Expect: The story of a boy becoming a man becoming a king + everything that entails. Largely gamelit, but later arcs could be called litrpg. Also schemes. A lot of schemes. I do love some good ol' fantasy politics and intrigue. Minimum Word Count a Week: TBA after Writathon Release Time(s): Daily for as long as I can/until the end of the Writathon. I also write The Deathseeker [Returning Dec 5th]
