《I'll Become Stronger, My Duke》Chapter 7- Similar Mindset

The curtains delicately danced as the wind slowly made its way to caress my cheeks which blushed in a soft peach tone, the sun still shined brightly up in the sky accompanied by the melodious chirping of the birds as Lord Leclair explained the Empire's system without leaving any detail untold while I listened carefully and noted everything.

"As I mentioned before, three political parties manage the law, the Plebeian Party, the Nobles Party, and the Imperial Party. Considering how commoners don't have the same opportunity as the nobles to educate themselves from prestigious law institutions, is very fortunate their opinion is taken into consideration."

"Yes, I think it's a good option to take their opinion into consideration as even if their status is different, they are still citizens of Cairon. Could you tell me more about the members of the parties?"

I couldn't bring my head around why there is an Imperial Party. The Plebeian Party is formed by commoners, the Nobles Party by nobles, they both mean what their names suggest, if we use the same logic on the Imperial Party this would mean the only members are the Mother and Father of Cairon, Emperor Ditrian III and Empress Roselia.

"You might be wondering why there is a totally different party labeled as 'Imperial' if they could be part of the Nobles instead, am I correct?" He chuckled knowing he hit the target on guessing my thoughts.

"Yes, that's what I wanted to know…haha"

I start to laugh nervously, feeling stupid to vaguely ask another question to get the answer to my true doubts. I can't be blamed though, I don't want to seem ignorant, I'm not Laura from Italy anymore, I'm someone who lived in Cairon from the day I was born in the eyes of everyone.

"Lady Vinéyard, it's a common misconception that every beginner has. The Imperial Party is formed not only by the Emperor and the Empress but also by some members of their family that have the knowledge to talk about the Empire's affairs, their education is on a higher level than most nobles as they have a higher rank being relatives of the Emperor and the Empress, all the nobles may have a title but stand in a different position on the social ladder."

"This makes more sense now."

Thank goodness it was a common misconception, I would've looked so dull in front of him if it wasn't.

"Lady, don't be afraid to question if you have any uncertainty. You won't learn if you don't have questions and you won't grow without the answers."

"I understand, then I have a question."

I take the opportunity to clear another thought.

"Commoners don't have enough financial support to get an instructor, how do they prepare themselves to take the position as a member of the Plebeian Party?"

"Shared knowledge. The current members of the Plebeian Party teach and provide books for the young commoners that aspire to become politicians. As they are members of a political party, they have a better salary than the average lower class community which helps them to make all this possible."

"They have some kind of institution for this right?"

"Yes, even if quite humble, it's a respected institution by all the commoners because it's a possibility for the lower class' voice to be heard."

It's amazing how this country started to consider the commoners as people, even if it was a fairly new turn for the law and there is still tension between them and the upper class, which is why there is a social ladder in the first place the reformation is improving day by day.

"It's time for me to ask a question, My Lady. What are your thoughts about a party formed by people without titles?"

"Honestly speaking, I think everyone should have an opportunity to pursue wealth without limits to their education because of their family background. There are people who will be luckier than others when running a business but when there is a restriction, individuals that could have been successful are not given the chance for this to happen. Personally, I think it's a loss for the Empire."

"Why so?" He asks curiously.

"These exact businesses are the ones that provide the Empire with money as they pay tax, and a lot of them expand further and trade with other countries which is an advantage for Cairon's economy. Instead of feeling disgusted by someone lower than their position, they should make it easier for them to feed their minds, after all, intelligence grows as the mind is fed with the right information."

"You think the Empire should make education free and compulsory for every child then, right?"

"Yes, it's not like the Emperor lacks the money to improve the country."

The serious atmosphere is broken by Lord Helios' hysterical laugh that confused me for some minutes.

Did I say something wrong? Maybe I sounded crazy, I was siding with the commoners after all.

"Great response, My Lady. You are indeed a very interesting individual."

I somehow feel like a newly discovered species for the tone he uses when he compliments me, but I'm glad that he doesn't mind strong answers from my part.

"I have a very similar thought to the Lady's. I'm glad you are not afraid to tell your opinion on sensible matters like this, most people who make up the upper class are focused on insignificant issues like perfect etiquette or family background to judge a person's ability. The main problem with this reformation, however, is the response of 98% of nobility because of their narrow mind, it could become a major complication if they are suddenly introduced with a bigger change."

"Obviously, most of them only care about money than lives. It's never enough for them that some are found guilty of tax evasion." I roll my eyes in exasperation.

"Remember that I'm the general adviser for all of the three parties, I wouldn't be in that position if I didn't support the Plebeian Party. Please express your thoughts freely with me, My Lady."

"I will" I grin in satisfaction.

"Then what about visiting their institution? Is My Lady interested?"

"Of course I am! Let's go now!"

I can't wait to see how commoners handle their education, is stupefying how hard they are trying just to have a place in this world.

I really think I will learn more about human morals if I witness their learning than the learning of those 'genius' nobles who had a silver spoon from the day they were born.

"Lydia! Prepare the carriage" I scream in excitement.
