I walk to the desk filled with documents and books, I scan through some of the material and I notice that I'm able to understand this language that I was unfamiliar with just some hours ago.

Alastor is the Crown Prince, which means that he has a gem, that is not absorbed completely because its awakening happened the night he escaped from this estate.

A gem, it's something that not all nobles own. Gems are the proof of an individual being the heir of his family and only the most suitable child is born with the gem. Different people have different gems and it all depends on a long family root. As the heir becomes older the gem will be completely absorbed in their body giving them the power of their ancestors, the powerful the gem is the higher physical and mental resistance is required for the gem to be absorbed completely. They also have 'guardians' that are the souls of the gems themselves, they can communicate with their master although it's a rarity that only the strongest families possess.

House Vinèyard is one of the Five Houses, the strongest families in Cairon and descendants of the five families that founded the Empire. The Five Houses represent one specific element: water, earth, air, fire, and lightning. House Vinéyard was this last one:- Lightning, while the Imperial Family has the power of the earth and House Blair- Vernon's family, has the power of air which is the only power that can exceed the one of the Imperial Family, that must be the reason there is a close allegiance between the two clans, for the security of the citizens of Cairon.

Being the heir of Vinéyard, I also have a gem, that I don't know how to use. Learning to control the powers of this stone is one of my goals if I want my body and head to be attached in the future.

This body seems very frail and delicate, but with some work, I might be able to use some powers, after all, I don't need the gem of being absorbed completely, as the completion of the process just means the power is 100% in the body.

Assuming that it's impossible to absorb the jewel fully because Vinéyard is one of the founding families of Cairon which probably means that the power contained in this little thing is massive and I have only two years, even a little bit of control would be good.

I am the heir of this family and examining the behavior of the Marquis, I'm respected and cared for. He didn't waste a single second go to get a physician and he also came to check my conditions himself. His expression didn't twist after I mentioned I was the next heir, it must mean I've been accepted as one.

But are women okay to carry the responsibility of being the head of the house? The Empire is managed by Ditrian III, the next heir to the throne is Prince Alastor, the heir of Blair is Vernon, and then there is me, a woman when this place seems very patriarchal to me.

I should get up and do more research about this because if I'm a woman and I'm not taken seriously because of some misogynist society it will be more difficult to make helpful connections which in consequence will improve my image in the eyes of Prince Alastor, the ladies of this Era are likely in the mindset of 'women should stay at home and listen to their husbands' and their connections are worth zero to me as an heir and because I'm already here, why not do some research about the origins of this family and find more about the gem?

I started walking behind Lydia as we exited the building and started walking on a path outside, you could see flowers that were in perfect care, and different maids doing their jobs, they all had a nice atmosphere and appeared to enjoy each other's company while working.

As soon as I enter the building, I'm fascinated by the number of shelves that hosted a numerous quantity of books. You could see the care put in this place, several workers were helping with positioning the books in their right places, and even some maids reading.

I didn't think maids were allowed to read freely, in the novels I read in my past life, the job of a maid was basically kissing everyone's foot just to have a good meal for a day.

I step towards the circular desk in the middle of the library.

"You are the librarian, right?"

"Yes, My Lady, how could I help?"

"Some maids reading caught my attention, I didn't think that maids were allowed to read in here, it's a pleasure to see them enjoy some books. And I wanted to read some books regarding the Five Houses and the I want some records about the heirs of the Empire"

"Please follow me, My Lady" she proceeded to walk to another room that had guards at the door, probably because of the level of confidentiality of the documents requested and began to speak again.

"I think it's a pleasure as well, seeing the maids read in their free time, I never saw something like this before working at Vinéyard estate, I appreciate a lot the level of respect towards us of the lower class, I would never thank the Marquis enough for giving me such opportunity"

This response fuels my doubts more than before. The maids are respected, a female heir is accepted, and there is a voluntary loyalty to the Marquis and myself and not some mouth kept shut in fear of power.

How did Laura, growing up in an environment like this, turn out to be human trash like how she was described in the novel?

I thought I had at least a good starting point but I was wrong.
