《I'll Become Stronger, My Duke》Chapter 1- A New Life

"What am I doing in here? Why is my face different?! What happened?" I panicked.

A few minutes before:

"Haaah, Vernon crying? What does this even mean?" I wondered after finishing my favorite novel while munching some chips violently.

It narrated the story of the Crown Prince Alastor Cairon- who is saved from the terrible Villainess Laura Vinèyard that constantly abused him after the Male Lead loses his memory falling from a cliff when he is chased by the killers sent by his stepmother, Claudia Curiel-Cairon and found salvation in the arms of the Heroine Ophelia Chloros which he meets during a night he escapes thanks to the awakening his powers as heir.

This novel was the reason I finally found the ability to breathe again after all the mistreatment at work. It was an infinite cycle of abuse: first at home, then at school, and now at work. For this very reason, I could relate a lot to Alastor, he was treated badly despite being innocent but at least, he found his love, got back his power, and became Emperor. He is such a sweet character, to think that on the night of his 'escape', which was only a walk in the flowery meadow nearby, was to pick up some flowers for Laura as an apology.

And then there is Vernon, that is a piece of an iceberg and he completely broke down in tears, I repeat, tears for the Villainess that tormented the Heroine and Alastor from the beginning. Crazy, right? I mean he is The Hero Of Cairon.

I hated the fact that the Villainess had my same name but the story was just so interesting that I stopped looking at these insignificant details, but there was one thing I wanted to know, was there really a reason why Vernon felt so sad after Laura died? Vernon, the Hero had a big sense of justice, crying for a horrible human being.

I should have waited for the answer from the author instead of taking a nap but who would've thought that something like this was going to happen.

"WHERE THE FUCK AM I?!!"

I found myself in an unknown room, the furniture was extremely luxurious, the bed was so large that at least three people could sleep there, and outside the window, there were buildings never seen in my hometown.

"My Lady! Did something happen?"

And there it was, another piece of confusion: a person dressed in strange clothes that looked like the ones of the maids in historical manhwas.

"And you are? Would you care to explain how I got here?"

The person looked at me with utter confusion unable to say a single word and it was then, that the reflection of myself in the mirror caught my attention: slender body, delicate skin made of porcelain, bright burgundy long hair, amber eyes.

Don't tell me, I became Laura Vinéyard.

"My Lady, are you okay?" the maid sobbed in anxiety.

"I'm sorry. I think I lost some of my memories"

The maid's complexion instantly dropped to the ground as she quickly ran out the door screaming for help, which obviously attracted a lot of attention around the manor. It was a good thing in a way, I didn't have to explain the 'situation' a thousand times, at least.

Why from every character in this book, I became Laura Vinéyard? I didn't live well in my past life and now God is playing with my feelings bringing me into a world, inside the body of a person that is going to die.

Unless, she still didn't commit those horrible acts, which means I would have a possibility to stay alive.

The door suddenly swung open, and a man, followed by the maid and what seemed to be a doctor approached me with a heavy expression on their face.

"My daughter, what happened?"

He must be Marquis Vinéyard, father of the Villainess. He looks very anxious and it's surprising knowing that he is the dad of someone who abused and hated Alastor without reason.

"Father? I'm sorry, I can't seem to remember very well"

The Marquis and the doctor glance at each other in a moment of agreement as the doctor comes closer to me. He gently examines me, putting his hand on my forehead, checking my pulse, and finally raises his gaze.

"Your Lordship, it looks like My Lady has signs of memory loss due to her high fever, it won't affect her a lot, fortunately, but her memories may or may not come back"

"I understand, you can go" the Marquis gives out a sigh and sits down.

"My daughter, do you remember who you are at least?"

"Yes, I'm Laura Vinéyard, next heir to House Vinéyard"

The Marquis' look softens as it forms a timid smile.

"I'm happy that you at least remember as much, do you want to rest for a bit?"

"Yes if that's okay"

"Tell your maid Lydia if you need something"

He pats my head and leaves what was going to be my new room.

"Lydia, how old am I?"

"You just turned 20 years old, My Lady..."

I'm 20, which means that I still have two years before the original story begins, there is a chance for me to get out of this mess, alive.

"Lydia get me some ink and paper" I need to record everything in case I forget some important detail.

"I'll do it immediately, My Lady"
