《Rise of the Protector》Chapter 4: The Heart of the Soul

Iris of piercing red, his eye white was a bright blue color. It looked like two bottles of ink were just poured into his eyes, and both were kept entirely separated by a thin line of black. His clothing turned into a mix of red and blue. His shock for a moment dissipated as the thought came through his head. "So it wasn't a fashion choice." Only to be met by the same searing pain he felt when he had just awoken.
"It is our power leaking out… we can contain most of it, but it changes the color of the fabrics due to proximity. We could theoretically change other things their color should we desire it by letting it touch our skin or concentrating our power on it." A voice spoke out amidst the pain, Blue, the voice calm and slightly monotone, echoing throughout his head, sending another shockwave of pain through his mind.
Ravok looked around him, his eyes scanning the room from left to right. Blue was nowhere to be found. The voice felt like it came to him like his own thoughts. She was in his mind. It didn't take him long to figure that out. But her voice still hurt as it was disrupting his train of thought.
"We are still adjusting. Take it carefully… The process has been a success, but this takes time… with three souls trying to contain themselves in one body… It is a lot of stress... I will try to make sure Red does not burst out in anger. It might overload your senses" Her voice became more soothing, the pain lessening until he suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of anger bursting through him.
"WHAT THE F*CK DID YOU…." Before Ravok could hear what Red's loud, angry voice had to say, his consciousness faded again as he collapsed onto the floor.
Ravok slowly started regaining consciousness. He was lying face down on a white floor, his sight was blurry and unsteady, but before he could get up, he heard a loud screaming voice. With a quick shake of his head, he tried to stand up. The pounding in his head seemed to have entirely cleared as he looked around. The floor went on as far as his eyes could see, and the sky was a flowing purple, red and blue mix. Finally, his hearing returned as he managed to regain his footing.

In front of him was Red, ready to throw hands while Blue was holding her back. Her voice was loud and aggressive. "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO, YOU BASTARD!?!" If looks could kill, Ravok would have died then and there, but sadly for Red, they couldn't.
"He only did what I told him, Red… it was the only way to save you from that wound. Your energy was cut… there was nothing we could do," Blue said hesitantly, but Red wouldn't have it.
"I don't want to hear it from you, Blue… I want to hear it from him" Her eyes locked right on Ravok. "My thanks for saving your life? You linked our fucking souls! Without even fucking asking me?" Her anger burst out as she spoke, her arms trembling with it as Blue barely managed to hold her back.
"Blue told me it was the only way to save you! I did what I thought would be right! You saved my life. I risked it to save yours!" Ravok yelled back. Some part of him was frustrated. Whatever risk he took might not have an excuse, but it was a risk he took non the less.
"Who knows if we can put our power into him, Blue! We are fucking linked with a random human on the street. And you thought that was a good idea fucking why?" She asked with the same fury. This time turned towards Blue.
"It is better than dying on the street. He decided to help, we linked with three people, something that should have killed all three of us, yet here we are. We live. He protected his family from a random attacker, willing to sacrifice his life for them and you. We should at least test him" Her voice was unwavering as if Red could throw all the anger at it without it ever wavering from her original position.
Ravok looked at the two, confused for a moment. Test him? What test could follow him, risking his life in a link of their souls? "A test? What do you mean by a test?"
Red nodded at Blue; her face was still stern and angry, but a sense of calm flowed through her as Blue stepped back, letting go of Red. "Fine… we test him… you better not fail... Ravok" Her eyes squinted as she held one of her hands to the side. As she held it out, red energy started to converge in the same shape he had seen quickly once before. The large, mighty two-handed ax was now in her hand.

Ravok took a single step back. He had been in some street brawls before. Some of which he had come out on top, but he was always told to run away or stop fighting when someone pulled out a weapon. "There is no need to…" He started to say with his hands up before being interrupted as the ax was pointed in his direction as Blue spoke.
"This is necessary… a duel between Ravok and Red… in this world, your powers are equal as linked souls. You will not manipulate the battlefield; the first to land a good hit will be called the winner. Each fighter may call upon weapons of their choice" As an announcer of some spectacle. Blue was shouting out the rules and conditions of a fight that Ravok never actually agreed with. Still, she counted swiftly and carefully before Ravok could utter another word. "Three…Two….One…Begin"
As Blue was counting down, Ravok could see Red gripping the ax, eager for battle. For revenge, possibly to just let out frustration, but Ravok knew that he would have no choice in this manner. This was her way of accepting what just happened or remaining angry at him throughout the whole ordeal.
The countdown finished, and Red had no doubts about what to do. Within seconds she leaped up in the air with the large red ax in both hands. She was fast and jumped a height that no ordinary human could jump. Ravok froze, never having been attacked in a severe battle like this before, his mind racing over his possibilities, but the only thing his body managed to do was jump back as the ax barely missed him.
Before Ravok could adequately react with a counterattack, the ax was motioned to the side in one swift movement, swinging right back towards him from the side this time. It felt familiar as if he had seen it multiple times before. This is the way Red fought. With little care for her safety, she rushed into battle, her ax an extension of her aggression and battle prowess, but it was much more than that, the blade wasn't recklessly swung around, but each movement was followed by the next as if this entire battle was just a dance between two partners. The endless barrage of attacks far too fast for the weapon dishing them out was barely dodgeable. Ravok barely managed to get out of the way of each attack and had little to no room for any counter offense...
"STOP RUNNING" Red yelled out in frustration. "YOU DESERVE THIS!" She yelled as she jumped back, breaking away from her barrage. Finally, Ravok noticed an opening, a time for him to counterattack, and broke away from the pattern of him being on the losing end of this fight. In one swift follow-up, Ravok jumped forward, and her arm stretched back as he was getting ready to punch until he noticed Red showing a smirk as she pulled her ax back and threw it forward in a spinning motion.
"Her aim…. it's off." Ravok thought to himself. There was an opportunity there. His body swiftly ducks, moving right under the spinning blade with less than an inch to spare. She was open. Her weapon was out of her hand. Or at least that is what Ravok though she hoped he would think. He had seen her materialize the ax right after she threw it before, and he had no reason to believe that wouldn't be the case again. Nonetheless, this was the only opportunity he had so far, and he was not about to let this go without at least a try. His feet launched him up towards, the grin on Red's face only growing as she held her hands above her head as the ax almost immediately appeared in her own hands, ready to slash down right at him.
